stratknight the sushi at the loophole is legit. They're supposed to start having it late night in a week or two as well. Currently sushi stops at 10 but the rest of the kitchen is like 1-130
I'll definitely check it out. Zen is the barometer for me. It's by far our favorite "go-to" when we can't figure out what we want.
Yesterday went tattooed moose > royal American > black sheep > poes > house on Sullivan's Was a good day
Royal American is on Morrison, like right by the bridge. It's an warehouse type deal with a sweet outdoor area. Food is good too and the atmosphere is awesome. Darts, corn hole, big ass porch Black sheep is on coleman, right next to the intersection of coleman and Shem where the oops company and Mikes bikes is. Used to be Luna Rosa, abes oyster house, and scratch. They've got an outdoor bar and a pool table outside, great place for a nice day
Will be there, also. Is there a link with the details? Specifically the times, I don't want him running out of brisket. TMB Meetup?
Oh my goodness ""Texas hot guts" sausage and foie-gras-tender beef brisket" I'll hit you up on Friday
Lol I read that again and the first thing that I thought was 'Yeah I'm getting a shit load of everything'
well. with all the shit i've been talking about mt p / james island this past week ... turns out i might be moving to the charleston area very soon. how embarassing. how's daniel island? cost-wise i mean. i've only been to the tennis tournament there.
Any of yall been to Leon's Oyster Shop? Fried chicken, oysters, and beer. It's on the Charleston Eater Heat Map, so that's cool. http://leonsoystershop.com/
Arkadin, what do I need to order at The Loophole? The wife is working late and I'm deep into a Game of Thrones binge (and a bottle of red wine), so I'm grabbing some carryout for the both of us. Give me a sushi and food rec.
I'm far from a sushi expert and I eat pretty much everything so I'd just go with something you normally like. I think I had a Kiawah and a sexy roll the other night Food wise their godfather pizza is my favorite, and I like the hurricane if you like mustard bbq sauce Their fried chicken club is a good sandwich, used to get that all the time when it was the new moon club and so is that Asian hoagie. Tacos were good when I had them last They have specials like every night of the week, some apply to take out and some don't. I'd check that out
Appreciate it. Love the flexibility of their menu. I'm in a sushi mood but she wanted something more along the lines of that Asian hoagie. That crazy boy roll has my attention, tempura filet mignon with fried onions.
Leon's is fantastic. I'd personally avoid the corn but everything else has been great. As a bonus, soft serve if you want it for desert.
Working Fri Sat and Sun :: Arkadin, try the Tobago Roll at the Loophole next time. Holy fuck is it good.
TOBAGO ROLL $11 SNOW CRAB MIX, TEMPURA FLAKES AND CUCUMBER. TOPPED WITH TUNA, SALMON, SHRIMP, AVOCADO, SPICY SAUCE, SRIRACHA, EEL SAUCE AND TEMPURA BITS.
Well right now I have a choice between 8 cities, and the frontrunners are downtown Wilmington and Daniel Island. I am torn, because many of my old friends are living in Charleston -- but any halfway decent looking place to rent on or near Daniel Island seems to run you about $1000 - 1500/month. I'm still at a loss to explain how any of you afford to live in the Mount Pleasant area. I'm only half-joking about the trust fund thing, because I personally know a lot of 'rich kid' types with wealthy families who are living in Charleston, while all my average middle class friends only lived in Charleston a few years before they got frustrated and left. I keep hearing a lot of the same opinions about traffic and shitty housing options, so I know it isn't just me who thinks this. I suspect that many of you being smartasses and pretending that these aren't problems just have shitty living situations -- e.g. living in apartments, living with roomates, living with long commutes, that sort of thing, and are just used to it. I can't come up with any other explanation.
You're complaining about cost of living and then you suggest living on Daniel Island? That's some terrible logic. West Ashley/James Island are great places to live at a reasonable price, renting or owning. They have the same amenities as the rest of Charleston.
I'd be working on Daniel Island. Commuting daily from James Island to Daniel Island seems too far. Google tells me it is 45 minutes at 8am on weekdays. West Ashley is on the table, I guess, but I don't think the commute to Daniel Island is smart. Google says 30-40 minutes at 8am on weekdays. Plus several people I know tell me: "Don't live in West Ashley, it sucks." I'm on the fence about whether it is desirable enough to pull me away from Wilmington. Mount Pleasant ideal geographically, with like a 10 minute commute in the mornings if I live around the northern part, but the cost of housing for what you get seems unacceptably shitty. I see a little area around Long Point road that falls under "Maybe." North Charleston, Wando, anything up I26 is out of the question. If I'm moving to some exurbs or rural crossroads I might as well stay in Wilmington. Commute needs to be ~15 minutes or less, preferably closer to 10. That doesn't seem achievable.
I used to work on Daniel Island at the country club, I lived in West Ashley at the time. The commute took around 20-25 minutes. Overall the traffic is not bad down here compared to other cities. West Ashley is just as good as any other part of Charleston. My family has lived in this city for hundreds of years, take my advice. All of Charleston is awesome, doesn't matter exactly where you live because everyone has access to the water since the city has 4 rivers going through it. Certain areas are cheap, certain are expensive, it's not hard to find a middle ground.
if we're having an ancestral pissing contest, my ancestors were charleston huguenots, as well as englishmen who owned a plantation on the edisto river in 1650's Jackonboro, and another branch farmed the land that was sold to the original Ashley phosphate corporations. Plenty of them fought in the yammasee war. None of that helps with my commute from West Ashley, though. I trust Google's traffic data which suggests that 25 minutes is the bare minimum during rush hour. Charleston in general is awesome , yes. And if you can afford a place on the water, yes, that's awesome. But I'm not sure about 'all of it' being so awesome. like i'm not so sure it's awesome to be sitting in traffic out by Citadel Mall, for example.
Holy shit man, that was not what I was implying at all. Just clarifying that I know the area well since my family has been here forever. The obvious answer is you are simply a douche, multiple people have offered advice ITT and you fire back with insults and a know it all attitude. Do all of us a favor and don't move here.
bullshit. you gave the closest thing resembling a helpful response. From the start i pointed out how expensive things are, and every response i've gotten has been " you don't know what you're talking about" if people can't even acknowledge the basic fact that charleston is expensive, they have their head up their ass. period.
Arkadin, stratknight, clemsurf all gave advice, you argued with them. Good luck, I'm done trying to help.
You never had any intention of being anything but an argumentative douche. As referenced before, please stay in cleveland
