Very lucky to survive the second half. Remy is complete shit, may as well have gone after Charlie Austin.
I wish we had gone after Charlie ourselves in hindsight, seems like a good lad and a solid fit for what we need.
Mourinho was a big fan. Not sure Chelsea board feels the same way. For the £20-25m they are saying I think that's a good deal for us. Mikel is the guy under hiddink but we need to upgrade from mikel and Ramires this summer so bringing in some extra money to pad the war chest is a positive. Also will open up more game minutes for RLC this season which isn't a bad thing. Maybe get to see a mikel/RLC pivot with cesc as #10 if matic keeps looking average
Love/hate relationship with Ramires. You can't deny his work rate but he doesn't do anything else particularly well. Good professional though, hopefully he does well there.
I will hold on to the dream just below the purchase of the pogfamily on my list of unrealistic dreams I refuse to give up on.
thing is it really shouldn't be that unrealistic given where we are this year. The positives far outweigh the negatives for getting the younger guys some time
I take back what I said about the move for pato now that it is being reported at a 6 month loan where all we cover is his £30k/wk wages. Unlike falcao and a majority of our moves the last 18 months I think this is a low cost flyer.
Maybe Roman decides since he is spending half a billion pounds to rebuild Stamford bridge and he has the best youth teams in England he can win with youth as long as he has the right manager. Maybe someone who promoted England's #1 striker and #1 CM at the moment?
Apparently whoever signs him had to give assurances of no loan and a legit shot at the first team. If Cahill can't get in I don't think this kid can. If we sell Cahill in the summer though, terry/Cahill with this kid as a backup while Christensen finishes his 2 year loan and then terry retires and this kid can try and oust the zouma/Christensen pairing or just be the rotation CB with them. I assume that drogba played against him and gave a good recommendation (or possibly lampar doe both) if we are serious about signing him
my twitter timeline is blowing up with questions about this signing. I don't know who is making these decisions. So weird.
When ESPN.com reported on Wednesday that New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga was soon to be sold to Chelsea, the first reaction of most in the U.S. soccer community was: Surely Miazga won’t play for Chelsea but rather be sent out immediately on loan like so many other players owned by the Blues. Not so fast, SI.com has learned. A source close to the Miazga deal tells SI.com that if the deal goes through, Chelsea would keep Miazga with its senior team for the remaining four months of this season and then evaluate his performance this summer. http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2016/01/27/chelsea-matt-miazga-transfer-red-bulls-loan
Doubt he will ever play for Chelsea. Also this is funny: @chelsea_hq So typical that Papy Djilobodji is looking like an absolute world beater for Werder Bremen since leaving #Chelsea. Nothing getting past him.
Yeah what the fuck, but Iva gets a contract extension. I understand JT is 35, it still seems odd. Edit: From the horse's mouth, “It’s not going to be a fairytale, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea,” said Terry who confirmed the news after Chelsea’s 5-1 FA Cup victory over MK Dons. “They said that when the new manager comes in, things might change. It’s a no at the minute. I needed to know now like I have done every January and sometimes it takes a couple of months to get done. “Unfortunately it was a no. It’s not going to be a fairytale ending, I’m not going to retire at Chelsea. It’s going to be elsewhere which it took me a couple of days to get over.” I am sad now.
At least he'll get a proper farewell. Excited for him to score a late equalizer for Man City against us.
Won't be another top flight league IMO. Team has a real lack of leadership and this certainly won't help. Ivanovic as captain is a recipe for a bad time.
Of course Chelsea are spinning it after all the backlash, brilliantly played by Terry IMO. He also says if he left it wouldn't be to another EPL team. "John requested a meeting with the club the week before last," a Chelsea spokesman told ESPN FC. "In that meeting he asked about the possibility of an extension to his existing contract. "John was advised that while no new deal was currently on the table, that situation could change in the coming months. The club has the utmost respect for John and everything he has helped us achieve to date. "He is a fantastic servant of Chelsea Football Club and a superb captain and, as such, the club will keep the channels of dialogue open." "My agent made the call like we do every January," Terry said. "He got told over the phone and I called to set up a meeting the following day. The club immediately set that up which was great of them to do. I wanted to hear it face to face. They told me. "Unfortunately it's not going to be. I feel as though I'm in great nick, I'm playing great and I've got a couple of years to go. It'll just be elsewhere. "I couldn't play for another Premier League club. It will be elsewhere for sure. I don't know where and I leave that to the people in charge of me and the clubs who make offers. It certainly won't be in the Premier League."
I agree terry played this perfectly. Chelsea have gotten awful press this year and losing your only homegrown player from the last 20 years who has been captain the entire abramovich era in the same season your fire the best manager in the history of the club all the while trying to build a new stadium seems like a poor idea If terry was not good anymore I could live with it (some of the fans might not but I could) but terry/zouma is the best CB partnership currently. Very hard sell to give the consistently average Cahill an extension, the consistently average (or worse) Ivanovic an extension and let Terry walk. Chelsea have heen wrong on every decision made since January 1 2015 so it is not surprising. Only the elite form from early last season and the pitiful form of others locked the title up early. Last time Chelsea looked elite versus a premier league team was Swansea in Jan 2015. Been way longer since the club has looked elite in the higher level decision making
Getting dominated in the first half by Watford is fun....somehow holding on to 0-0 right now but goal seems to be coming.
If you guys could continue your streak of not losing in the league against United that would be swell, a draw would do just fine. Thanks.
