You don't take a QB at 11 unless you plan on him starting year 1. With that said I don't see a single QB that's worth a top 20 pick
When I look at this class of QBs to me none stand out from the others. They all have question marks. I'm not sure you can look at Goff and say he is head and shoulders better than Cardale or Cook or Hack. Its why I would much rather take a QB in round 3 or 4 whoever is left over in that crew of guys. I've never been a fan of Cardale. But getting him in R3 or R4 it's worth the roll of the dice.
Per @AdamSchefter the #Bears send disgruntled TE Martellus Bennett and a 6th-round pick to the #Patriots for their 4th-round pick.
I'm assuming it's pick #185 and not picks #204 or #206 in the 6th. We had 3 sixth round picks, so that's...
Well that's a pleasant surprise. So we have picks: #11, #41, #72, #106, #127, #150, #185, #206, and #230 Seems like we're done in free agency until after the draft. With that many draft picks and no glaring needs, I'd expect us to have a pretty quiet secondary free agent period after the draft. Maybe add a few guys for depth here and there
Assuming Buckner, Stanley, Bosa, Hargreaves, Tunsil, Jack, and Ramsey aren't available... I'm probably gonna be disappointed if it's not Reed, Rankins, or Robinson.
Would love to see someone like Hargreaves fall to 11. Draft is heavy on defensive line so I wouldn't mind a different position in the 1st.
Just have to hope the Browns or niners go QB and take Lynch in the top 10. 3 qbs and 2 OL in the top 10 means the Bears are going to have a shot at Hargreaves or Elliot
Disagree with the Elliott hate. If he is there at 11, I am fine with taking him. I ultimately dont think they will draft an offensive player but drafting him sets up the running back position for the next 8-10 years. He is one of the true studs of this draft. Will be interesting to see the fall from Jack over his knee. I dont think he makes it out of the top 10 but that's something I'll keep my eye on come Thursday.
I like Robinson, would stay away from Reed not sure he has the upside and Rankins just seems meh to me. I do have a healthy fear of Bama players being beat the fuck up by the time they enter the league.
It's not like we are competing for a SB so who cares if he has the talent you want. Didn't stop them from taking Kevin last year. fwiw Lawson was in chicago a few days back for a personal workout and interview so he's definitely on the short list I would assume.
Well they signed 2 this off season. Come on Truman, you have to get to know the roster of your new favorite team. I'd take Ragland in the 2nd round.
Lawson is the real deal, he will be a good player on the next level, he has a very high floor and a strong ceiling. Thing I like most about him is his use of hands and the different moves he utlizes on the pass rush, he is very versitle on how he gets to the QB or how he applies pressure or hurrys. Watched a bit of his team this year and came away impressed with him each time.
Agree with the Lawson hype. He could be very good on the next level. I'm hoping that we don't take Floyd, I'm just not sold on him. Wouldn't be shocked if that take someone like Chris Jones of Mississippi State.
Wouldn't surprise me to see Ezekiel Elliot or Taylor Decker from OSU. Maybe even Darron Lee. I know for a fact that Elliot and Decker have guys within the organization lobbying for them. I imagine Lee does as well. I think Taylor Decker would be a wonderful pick.
Drayton I know is going to bat for Zeke. He was his position coach at OSU. They have a very strong relationship. Not just Zeke and Stan, but their families as well. Zeke's parents love Stan and his wife Monique. Decker trains at LB O Line Performance out in Scottsdale with Kyle Long and Bobby Massie. Long had a sizable role in bringing Massie to Chicago. Guys who train there for some reason just show incredible improvement, not to mention getting into the best shape of their lives. Just like Long went to bat for Massie he went to bat for Decker. Only problem is that the Bears need a left tackle (Charles Leno?) and Massie and Decker are both RT types. I've heard some rumblings that Massie could be destined for the left side though.
Lee at 11 is a bigtime reach. As is Decker IMHO. Elliot could make sense if you didn't have two young backs who showed so much promise you let a future HOF walk this offseason without a offer. Floyd seems like the prototype of what this front office likes. Uber Athlete with a amazing ceiling. But he needs to bulk up so much at this point very little chance he can stay on the field for 3 downs.
I'd be fine if the Bears went with Robinson at 11. I don't know if he'll be a star, but I feel like no way is he a bust. Him, Goldman, and Ego would give the Bears a very stout front line against the run.
Conklin and decker scare the shit out of me. No way should a 1st rd O-lineman, almost a top 10 pick to boot, be putting up less than 18 reps of 225. Those were 2 of the weakest guys on the offensive line at the entire combine. Edit: guess my memory served me wrong, decker put up 20 reps, Conklin 25 reps. Decker's reps were still on the lower half of the offensive line.
I would be fine with Conklin if the QBs weren't going 1 and 2 and you have a shot at a big time talent.
I would also be fine with Ronnie Stanley in the first. He's a stud, I think he'll be long gone by 11 tho
With two QBs going top 10, that probably leaves 8 more players that are elite prospects and the Bears just need one wtf pick to get one of thos players. You guys aren't so stacked at any position that it would make sense to take a lesser player based on position. Alahon is the only proven entity on offense and you lose Forte and Bennett. I think it would be a mistake to dismiss Ellliot because he is one of those elite players and you are going to need big plays from someone other than Jeffery.
2 things on my mind today. Do you think pace drafts cooper if the raiders draft white last year? And does Elliot playing in a spread hurt him at all going to the NFL? He probably got 90% of his carries in the shotgun with a guy that could rush for 200 yards a game handing him the ball. I'm sure it made the defense play a lot differently than what he'll see in the NFL, definitely could have opened up more running lanes.
I would hope that we would have drafted Cooper if White went earlier. Last season, I was really high on Cooper and wanted him but I was content with White. I have to say though, I am still very hopefully on White. The guy could be really good. Another thought about White, with him sitting out last season with that injury and coming back 100% this season. In essence we are gaining 2 first round picks into this years team performance. In regards to Elliott, I really like him as a RB, he has good vision and speed. I think he can be a real good RB in the NFL. With that said, I would not want to take him at 11. The RB position is not what it used to be in the NFL. The game has evolved, Look at the top teams in the league, their RBs you need a RB by committee to spread the punishment around and on top of it, the game is now a passing game. I would rather invest our draft pick on OL or on the defensive side of the ball.
