It was all beautiful. My favorite part though is seeing the players and fans celebrating. This clip from Sports Center gives a better view. https://www.facebook.com/matt.cote.98/posts/10205499113347770 That is what March is all about
Love seeing a ton of new blood in the Tourney this year. No Edina, no Hill-Murray, no Duluth East, no St. Thomas, etc.
Pulling for Grand Rapids. 2 future Sioux(errr, F'n Hawks) and a good friend of mine who recently moved there has a kid on the team as well
I'm good with anyone other than EP winning. But I guess I'll end up pulling for whoever gets out of that GR/Bemidji game. Always had a soft spot for northern schools, especially ones that aren't Duluth East.
Current Bracketology This week’s brackets East Regional (Albany): 13 Omaha vs. 4 Providence 11 Harvard vs. 5 Boston College Northeast Regional (Worcester): 16 Minnesota State vs. 1 Quinnipiac 10 Boston University vs 8 Yale Midwest Regional (Cincinnati): 15 Robert Morris vs. 3 St. Cloud State 9 Notre Dame vs. 6 Michigan West Regional (St. Paul): 14 Minnesota vs. 2 North Dakota 12 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 7 Denver Assuming the following auto-bids Atlantic Hockey: Robert Morris Big Ten: Minnesota ECAC Hockey: Quinnipiac Hockey East: Boston College NCHC: North Dakota WCHA: Minnesota State Omaha is the last team in and Penn State and Duluth are bumped by Minnesota State and Robert Morris auto-bids while Minnesota doesn't officially bump Michigan Tech as they are currently tied for 16 in the pairwise rankings. Could be 2 weekends in the Twin cities in a row for me if this holds up. 1 in Minneapolis at Target Center and 1 in St. Paul at the Excel Energy Center(aka...Engelstad Arena East)
Very unselfish play by Chorney on this one as he had a pretty good look at scoring but instead fed a nice drop pass to Bina!
Current Bracketology. Assuming the current conference leaders earn their conferences auto-bids you have UND, Quinnipiac, BC, Michigan Tech, Minnesota, and Robert Morris currently leading. West Region(St. Paul, MN) 1. UND vs. 15. Minnesota 8. Michigan vs. 9. Boston U Northeast Region(Worcester, MA) 2. Quinnipiac vs. 16. Robert Morris 7. Yale vs. 10. Notre Dame Midwest Region(Cincinnati, OH) 3. St. Cloud State vs. 14. Michigan Tech 6. Denver U vs. 12. Mass-Lowell East Region(Albany, NY) 4. Providence vs. 13. Minnesota-Duluth 5. Boston College vs. 11. Harvard Nebraska-Omaha and Cornell are the victims of the Big 10 and Atlantic Hockey leaders auto-bids. If Michigan wins the big 10 tournament an addition al spot would open up for Omaha.....of course if there are upsets in the other conferences additional spots could disappear.
I am guessing they are hoping they can find a way to put Notre Dame there and then hope Ohio State or Miami some how win their conference tournaments since if they have UND in St. Paul it wouldn't be a total disaster without the Gophers there. Denver is playing lights out right now and UMD is playing very good playoff hockey(i.e., real tough to score against). I like how my squad(UND) is playing right now as well although we had to overcome a little hiccup in goal on Saturday night. St. Cloud has a nasty power play which is always crucial this time of year. I could see 3 NCHC teams in Tampa with this bracket although UMD would have to beat the defending champs in Providence and then the Evil Empire BC which is a tall order.
DU is playing really, really well since they got curb stomped by St. Cloud at Magness. I just can't see them beating both St. Cloud and UND back to back to win NCHC. Whatever happens, at least CC sucks this year.
Current Bracketology East Regional (Albany): 13 Minnesota-Duluth vs. 4 Providence 11 Harvard vs. 5 Boston College Northeast Regional (Worcester): 16 Robert Morris vs. 2 Quinnipiac 9 Boston University vs 7 Yale Midwest Regional (Cincinnati): 14 Michigan Tech vs. 3 St. Cloud State 10 Notre Dame vs. 8 Michigan West Regional (St. Paul): 15 Minnesota vs. 1 North Dakota 12 Massachusetts-Lowell vs. 6 Denver Swapping Michigan for Denver for attendance issues is a brutal exchange. Denver is playing best hockey in the country right now and Michigan is so bad defensively....would much rather have Michigan in St. Paul.
So the conference tournaments are underway and if they are any indication of what is to come in the NCAA tournament then good luck picking a winner. Atlantic Hockey Regular season champion Robert Morris has it's season and NCAA post season hopes on the line against 8th place Bentley today. Hockey East Regular season champion is forced to a 3rd game today against 9th place Vermont. ECAC regular season champion and #2 ranked Quinnipiac is in a 3rd game today with 7th place Cornell. WCHA Co-Champion Minnesota State-Mankato is in a 3rd game today with #7 Lake Superior State and Bowling Green who finished 2 points from making it a 3 way tie for the league title is in a 3rd game with Bemidji State today....NCAA elimination games for both of them today.
Final version of bracketology before the conference tournies wrap up this weekend. East Regional (Albany): 13 Minnesota-Duluth vs. 4 Providence 11 Harvard vs. 5 Boston College Northeast Regional (Worcester): 16 Robert Morris vs. 2 Quinnipiac 10 Yale vs 8 Massachusetts-Lowell Midwest Regional (Cincinnati): 14 Michigan Tech vs. 3 St. Cloud State 12 Notre Dame vs. 7 Michigan West Regional (St. Paul): 15 Minnesota vs. 1 North Dakota 9 Boston University vs. 6 Denver
So if UMD beats UND they're pretty much in. If UND beats UMD, UMD is likely out. Does that sound right?
Stephen Whyno @SWhyno End of an era at Wisconsin, as AD Barry Alvarez announced he has fired men's hockey coach Mike Eaves after consecutive losing seasons.
On one hand it is slightly disappointing as I enjoy Wisconsin being terrible. On the other hand, they were so terrible it was really damaging to the conference and our rivalry.
Off the top of my head, BC, Mich, Minn and UND (alphabetically) are better and BU and Wisconsin are certainly in the conversation for #5. Others that come to mind that are a step behind are UMD, MSU, Maine, UNH and maybe Notre Dame and Miami (OH) now that they have new facilities. I respect CC and Denver too but I don't think they have the resources some of the others do.
Oh, gotcha. I read it wrong I thought you were bashing our sorry conference saying does it ever feel good to win the conference haha. Anyway, enjoy watching from home this year :).
Yes, Old WCHA >>> B1G. It either needs to go away or Wisconsin & MSU need to pull their heads out of their collective asses and put up a fight. It also needs to get more intense between the two powers of the conference. Michigan, challenge us during the season.
Yeah. They had discussed adding hockey only schools. Conference needs it. Also Illinihockey needs to make a transition.
The B1G has the money to cherry pick any school it wants that's not in Boston. I don't think they need to count on current B1G schools starting hockey programs
I didn't mean that the conference NEEDS Illinois to improve. Illinois should do it though. There was talk a year or two ago about trying to add UNO and startup ASU. Obviously I have hopes for better than ASU, but if they progress like PSU did they could be respectable in a few years.
Is this the women's hockey thread too? Back-to-back and 4 of the last 5. We also killed BC's undefeated season. Spoiler Women's volleyball Final 4 and this is all we've got right now.
