God I wish that potential was realized. I told the 6zero QB Coach he is delusional if he thinks there are 15-20 kids deserving of a P5 offer every year in Colorado. I didn't mean anything personal by it, I honestly don't know a lot about him other than that he works there so how could I? It's just that I think he is way off base / being unrealistic about the the # of kids that deserve those offers (right out of HS) as I think he fails to consider the lack of competition here and the adjustment Colorado kids (those who are not a Kalen Ballage or Christian McCaffrey type recruit and athlete but still get FBS/FCS offers) have to make to playing against guys from California, Florida, Texas, Georgia, ect., let alone competing with them for playing time. Competition here sucks, especially for talented kids b/c there aren't enough Ballages every year (let alone every 5 yrs) to challenge them / embarrass the fuck out of them so that they work harder and understand what it takes to make it against guys from traditionally talent rich states. Besides home sickness, I think in recent yrs it is why we have seen a # of guys go out of state to P5 schools only to transfer back home after a year or two. Of course my reply was met with "we have 26 years of experience, how dare you question us, ect" and shit like that rather than any attempt at a conversation. I tried being nice to avoid a moronic e-fight since they are treating anyone questioning them like they're Peaked in High School Rob Lowe (fuck Comcast for getting those commercials axed BTW) and pursuing it further would've gone absolutely fucking nowhere, but perhaps they should consider that this is probably not the way you want to treat the people coaching the kids whose business you make a living off of and that recommended those kids to you in the first place.
And since someone reading this is probably thinking it, yes I may be an ass hole for ripping the talent of kids in the state in which I coach, but I'd rather be real with them about their chances of playing somewhere that isn't the RMAC rather than feed them a load of steaming shit that could result in them (or their parents/families) wasting time, energy, and money pursuing something (like a P5 offer) that has very slim odds of happening. That isn't meant to be a slam on anyone wanting to (be it for the love of the game or to have part of your college education paid for) or that did play in the RMAC either, but is more so me thinking about all my friends that played somewhere like that only to wish they had gone to CU / somewhere bigger and more fun to just enjoy college.
Matt and him do a great job coaching, without a doubt. But part of their schtick is to get those kids scholarships, because if that's not happening, there's no real point of investing all of that money as a parent. All their posturing about CO talent is simply business marketing.
Yeah I started to bring that up with him - that it is easy to get excited about kids you're working closely with as you obviously want them to succeed (unless they are arrogant douche bags, and even then it's not like you wish bad things on them) - and that is when shit started turning into a circus. It is a shame they react that way to these discussions because I really do feel like they are offering an awesome service for Colorado HSFB players in terms of getting them ready for next level S&C programs, aiding in the development of some of these kids through the workouts they do up there, and offering a serious place to go train for guys from a variety of levels. It is really sad IMO that a lot of high school programs out here don't offer anything remotely close to what Six Zero does as there are only a handful that have big S&C programs (but the ones that do are better than what you'd see @ most of the Colorado D2 schools IMO). It almost surprises me they don't keep a more level head in a public forum like TWTR as they basically have a monopoly on the service they provide (I know there was nothing like it around in the past 10-12 years as I know a lot of guys that would've likely had interest in training up there on Summer Break and back from school).
Whatever, CU basketball is at an all time low and it's due in large part to Tad Boyle. The guy apparently can't coach, only had teams make the tourney b/c of Alec Burks/Andre Roberson/Spencer Dinwiddie, can't turn the 4*s that we could never land before he got here (that he has managed to land) into 100*s, and can't make kids with shit for a work ethic train/practice hard. That Tad Boyle ain't worth the Charmin-Extra soft he wipes his butt with!
Is this the new San Diego Buff post? If so, thank you for your service and saving me the trouble of going into that thread again.
I heard the same. But then again, Cal and Wazzu had "great" facility upgrades. CU needs to figure out how to turn their great facilities into success on the field. I still think Mac can take the Buffs pretty high. Maybe not to the playoffs because it gets tough to climb over the top programs in any conference, but I think he can get them in the top half of the conference for sure. How's your 'crootin going so far? Any noticeable boost from the new digs?
Not yet. We need to win some dang games I fear. This class will be fairly small so it seems they are aiming pretty high so far.
What bottles my mind with my past 6 weeks in the CU community is the complete apathy. I thought Nebraska football had apathy last year but holy shit is it real here. One of my neighbors is a senior undegrad and she told me she doesn't even know how to get tickets and that none of her friends have them. Admittedly there's way more to do in Boulder/Denver than Lincoln, but when I was an undergrad everything revolved around Nebraska athletics.
I noticed this too and I have a theory as to why it's so bad in Boulder. CU is such a huge out-of-state school and Colorado has a ton of non-natives living there, so very few kids grew up Buff fans like they did in a lot of other places where the family has been a Husker or Duck or Buckeye for generations. The students move from SoCal or Texas for college for 4 years and then leave, so if the team isn't that good, they just don't care that much. And tons of Boulder residents did not grow up there so they aren't that connected to the local team. Imagine if 50% of Nebraska's students were from California and 70% of Lincoln's residents were born out of state- the apathy level would go way up when the team wasn't doing well. The schools that have the biggest, most passionate fan bases tend to span generations - kids growing up watching/going to games with grandpa and dad and then raising their kids as Ducks too.
Shhh. Let's just ignore that. Claim to be an highly intelligent state yet nobody wants to give up the money to ensure that it continues.
It won't matter. If CU games are fun they will come. If not, it'll be the same shit since 2011 where students don't care. The state funding, or lack of, is ridiculous. How a educated state like colorado won't fund higher ed amazes me.
Oregon tried to do that a few years back but the President got caught back channeling and was subsequently fired. Really pissed off everyone because he was exactly the type of visionary needed and his plan was really solid. i can't remember the details but I remember really liking the idea at the time.
Nike jizz stains on the collar Colorado Buffaloes @cubuffs · 42s42 seconds ago Notice anything different? THREE DAYS until we unveil our new uniforms as part of student field day! #GoBuffs
thirsty Thursdayed in Boulder tonight after class In the span of 2 beers I got a free edible, got really high, and got some hippie's number.
Where are the Thursday hot spots these days? On another note, Going to be in Boulder in 3 weeks from today for a bachelor party. There are 12 of us who all graduated 7-9 years ago. Should be a total clown show.
Finally on board for this class. Best part is the staff decided to quit wasting time recruiting in the PNW and spend more time in Florida with Leavitt.
Leavitt doing work. http://sports.yahoo.com/colorado/football/recruiting/player-165312 Currently favors the Buffs
Leavitt just seems like the breath of fresh air this staff needs. When was the last time we even got a recruit from Florida? Excited to see what his defense can do in the fall.
Sherman Lang? But he never made it to campus. I think a punter, don't remember his name. Dialllo or something.
