by only looking at him, no way would i make the comparison to what i imagined he looked like in the books. the actor playing him kinda looks weak and i think of theon as a cocky, arrogant, quarterback kind of guy. this dude looks like a manager. just saying just now watching episode 4 and samwell is exactly as i pictured him
see thats exactly as i saw him. cocky dude with a silver tongue that apparently sleeps with every chick around. i dont get that from the guy playing him
see i watched the first episode then started reading the books and finished them before watching again so i define a lot of what the characters look like in the book with the first episode but i missed on theon and stuff. furthermore, i imagined varys to be like kyle gas (jack black's comedian partner)
definitely not what i expected osha to look like. after some quick research also found out she is in harry potter.
i didnt expect her to be hot at all tbh. maybe in like a 50 year old biker lady that is 20 years past her prime but you can see ancient relics but nothing more
Yea Osha isn't at all like in the books. The biggest person they fucked up though is Shae However, for the most part I'm very pleased with the casting
Characters I feel they nailed- The entire Stark family including Jon (Excluding the small age difference) Dany Robert Joffrey Drogo Sam Jaime Not so good Cersei- Supposed to be hotter Tyrion- Though he's the best actor in the show Theon
Agree and I will add that I like Jorah in the show better than how he was described in the book. I think that change was a good one.
I don't mind HBO making the really ugly characters better looking, nor not quite nailing their physical properties as long as they nail the character's personality and I think for the most part they did that. Robert didn't quite look like Robert but I'll be damned if Addy didn't nail his character same with Dinklage and Tyrion
Not a fan of cat stark at all. I can't remember who it was but the actress that was their first choice would have nailed it.
Hard enough to find a dwarf with the acting chops, let alone one who's all misshapen and hideous. Billy Barty is probably dead.
Re: Comparing what characters look like on the show to what you thought in the b I pictured Joffrey being much more handsome. No homo.
i think they cast tyrion great. dude nails his character. if he had two different color contacts i think it would help though. furthermore, when tyrion gets Spoiler nailed by that ax they are going to have to make him look grotesque so i think by not doing it yet it will appeal more to the drastic change of his battle wound versus being really ugly and getting uglier. better for TV i guess
that happens at the end of book 2 so I spoilered it for you. I wouldn't be surprised it just didn't happen in the show.
Only ones I had real issue with were Robert and Renly as they're supposed to be like 6'6" beasts. Osha should've been a bit older and I thought they made Cat look too old (she's in her mid to late 30's in the book). Besides that I thought everyone fit well. I also think Littlefinger and Varys are perfect
Re: Comparing what characters look like on the show to what you thought in the b Littlefinger was a really short guy in the book. Also Robb didn't really look like a 15 year old.
Re: Comparing what characters look like on the show to what you thought in the b They made all the stark children a couple years older so it would be a little more fit for TV
Re: Comparing what characters look like on the show to what you thought in the b Couldn't they have made Sansa old enough to get naked then?
Re: Comparing what characters look like on the show to what you thought in the b They did a hell of a job with dany. She was supposed to be slightly premature in the book.
Syrio in the book vs the show I have to say I like Syrio in the show better than the book, despite the dialogue being virtually the same. After watching the show and loving the sarcastic spanish accent, the same parts of the book felt a little flat without it. edit: merged this into the book/show comparison thread
i think i agree. they made her foreign and "mysterious" whore versus a bubbly and fun whore. i was looking at imdb last night and the actress that plays sansa was born in 1996, making her 15 which is the closest to the actual age of anyone in the books and you can definitely tell that she'll be really good looking one day. hell, the girl that plays arya is 14. and what the fuck with rickon? in the first book he's supposed to be like 2-3 not about 8 like they have him. maybe the needed an older kid to act but i think it comes across bad to dumb down a 7 year old kid to make him act like a toddler
Yeah I posted that somewhere. Sansa's character almost had worth but no they had to make her 2-3 years too young to do the naked scene in season 2.
I think they absolutely nailed Viserys and Joffrey. Hated both of them right from the start They also did a great job with the Starks, Tyrion, Robert, Jaime, Dany, and a few others
Only problem with Robert is his height. Love the actor that plays him. Agree with the rest of your post with the addition of Littlefinger/Varys and minus Cat Stark.
Yea Varys and Littlefinger were awesome as well and I didn't like actress they got to play Cat either. I liked the guy they got to play the Hound but didn't like how they skipped over some his parts from the book such as when he told Sansa how his face was burned. The writers could have done a better job with him Also think they did a great job with Bronn and a horrible job with Loras. Loras was the worst cast character in the show imo
should have hired Ian Somerhalder as Loras can play a convincing gay as well, see The Rules of Attraction
everything about loras is gay and shitty in the show. whether loras has a hard on for renly or not, he's a cocky and badass warrior. they made him be a true "catcher"
Thought they nailed the Old Bear as well. Hate Loras, Renly, and Catelyn. Agree with everyone on the Starks, Littlefinger, Varys, Viserys, Dany, Robert (even though he needs to be taller), Jaime, Tyrion, and Jorah, thought they all did a great job. Like the guy they got for the Hound, but they should have fucked his face up more. I also like the Mountain and Tywin.
Cat just seems a little too old for me. I know she has to be a little bit older than the books since they aged all of her kids for the show but she looks close to 50.
Charles Dance was the absolute perfect cast to play Tywin. He dominates every scene he's a part of. All the Lannisters have the perfect person playing them and are probably the best actors in the show
