Don't really know him but love the TEs from the Cardinal. Big need filled. Agree with Norman, kinda like this draft as long as Quinn can get Neal to tackle.
I like that Hooper pick. I want Kyle Murphy for the OL. Or an upside Guard. Interested to see what DL is available. Use the extra 6th on a WR.
nothing if not consistent. "D" grades on first two picks 21 (52). Atlanta Falcons: Deion Jones | Grade: D (Pick acquired in trade with Houston Texans) The Falcons were looking to add speed to their defense and Jones certainly fits that description. The problem is getting blocked too often in the running game and missing too many tackles when he gets to the ball carriers (105th in class in tackling efficiency, missing one of every 6.5 attempts). His overall grade ranked 129th among linebackers in the draft class and he was the 250th player on the PFF Draft Board on athleticism alone.
18 (81) Atlanta Falcons: Austin Hooper | Grade: C+ Atlanta was expected to address the tight end position at some point, and Hooper is solid across the board. His +6.2 overall grade (20th in the class) doesn’t stand out, but he can make a spectacular catch over defenders and he’s an adequate run blocker, so expect him to work his way into the rotation in 2-tight end sets in the early going.
i read a different article that said he was the 129 prospect. Has to be a fuck up. But we reached again.
Or teams that couldn't stop giving up 400 yards/game the second half of the year http://www.cfbstats.com/2015/team/365/total/defense/gamelog.html
Eh Mel kiper had him as like his 8th best prospect available when we took him. Our coaches must think they can teach these players to tackle better.
I can see where these picks could work. But it feels like it hrad to be a very specific circumstance for it to all come together for them to be anything special on the field. It's like seeing a girl with a cute face but a body only the golden corral could love. Sure, she could be hot at some point, but she'd need to step away from the fast food and start trying to work out and take care of herself. And everyone knows it isn't happening.
It's bad when I automatically assume every guy we select sucks because I have zero faith in our front office to draft well
I'd imagine one of them plays inside or we move reed inside. Really I'm just hoping we don't have another season of worrilow
The draft tracker is messing with me I think, don't the Falcons have 2 picks in round 6? Lost the 5th round and traded for another 6?
It is, the Coons will have one of the lowest draft grades. I hate everything involved with this franchise.
I'm going to be patient and hope for the best, not as happy as I was earlier, but I still think we got a couple guys that can develop into starters.. we really need to stop fucking winning a couple late games and moving our draft pick back 10 spots, it's fucking killing us not being able to draft an impact player early because we win meaningless games at the end of the fucking year
Todd Gurley moved the Rams offensive DVOA up 1 rank..... arguing in favor of spending a 1 on a RB is idiotic.
Not when that RB is arguably the best RB in the league coming into his second year and the guy we drafted is mediocre as fuck.
Are we really going to argue about running backs again. Freeman was an absolute stud last year. Gurley would be a luxury, but wouldn't have made us any better last year
Rams also spent 3 draft picks on OL the year after spending a 1 on Greg Robinson. But let's be butt hurt bc we didn't spend a top 10 pick on a RB. Beasley has a long way to go but he was the 2nd best rookie pass rusher and led Atl in sacks.
I agree on not taking a RB high, but the Gurley stat is misleading. He missed like 6 games and he did play in the best run defense division. A better point could be made for other backs.
No. He had a great 1st 4 games and he's going to be a very good RB, but he isn't arguably the best RB. He was pretty average after those 4 games. Freeman wasn't much different than Todd, either
Haha, ok WED. Gurley is at worst top 5 and at best top back. And less than a year off ACL. Let your hate flow.
Guys that went after Beasley were guys like Ereck Flowers, Trae Waynes, Danny Shelton, Andrus Peat, Melvin Gordon, Arik Armstead, Marcus Peters, Cameron Erving, Cedric Ogbuehi, Bud Dupree, Shane Ray, DJ Humpheries, Shaq Thomson, the WR Baltimore drafted, Stephon Anthony. None of those guys were coming in and doing anything to lead us to the playoffs either. The problem is the overall shitty composition of our roster that forces us to take a need position as opposed to BPA. We have zero pass rush so we had to go after a pass rusher in Rd 1 last year. This year our backers and safeties are just reprehensible and our owner said we need to come out of this draft with 3 starters, so going SS, LB and TE was predictable b/c TD and Pioli are in the self-preservation business after shitting their pants from 2013-2015 as far as roster construction goes. The Jalen Collins pick was far more egergious because he just did nothing last year and guys like Eric Kendricks, Denzel Perryman, Markus Golden all would have given us more on defense and maybe allowed us to go BPA this year in Rd 2. The LACK of draft picks hurts our roster as well because the best teams have a high number of players on the cap friendly rookie deals, keeps the absolute must players, and can use the draft to go BPA time and time again which keeps your roster in the top half of the league talent wise. But thats just my cunty opinion, what do I know, I don't eat Kale Oatmeal like Dimitrof
Sports talk radio keeps talking up Quinn's roster work in Seattle completely ignoring that Seattle didn't have anywhere near the shit problems rosterwise that atlanta does... http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/atlanta-falcons/cap/ compared with http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/seattle-seahawks/cap/2013/ and that was with them being able to fire the guy that was supposed to be their starter. Arthur Blank is a fucking idiot for not firing Dimitroff years ago.
I'm not going to bitch about the draft until next year, but for now, we can read about how horrible the Falcons draft was... https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2016/04/30/draft-2016-nfl-draft-grades-for-all-32-teams/ Atlanta Falcons, D+ 1 (17) Keanu Neal, S, Florida 2 (52) (from Houston) Deion Jones, ILB, LSU 3 (81) Austin Hooper, TE, Stanford 4 (115) De’Vondre Campbell, OLB, Minnesota 6 (195) (from New York Giants via Houston) Wes Schweitzer, G, San Jose State 7 (238) Devin Fuller, WR, UCLA Day 1: With so much talent on the board in the middle of the first round, drafting a safety that earned just the No. 93 grade in the nation is a curious move. Neal is a big hitter who will likely try to fill the “Kam Chancellor role” in Atlanta’s defense as a safety who spends a lot of his time in the box, but players with his skill set are littered throughout the draft. Day 2: The Falcons wanted to add speed to their defense, and they certainly need it, but Jones gets blocked far too often in the running game, and he missed one of every 6.5 tackle attempts — the 105th-worst rate in the nation. His speed does not always translate into good play in coverage. Hooper brings a solid run-blocking option to the tight end position, and he’s capable of making spectacular catches down the field. Day 3: Campbell’s +7.4 coverage grade ranked ninth in the class in 2015, while Schweitzer quietly ranked 11th overall in the draft class at +18.8 and his movement skills project well as a zone-blocking guard.
Too much emphasis on Jones' inability to handle the run. That's not why he was drafted, it's the NFL.
Beasley is a luxury player. A situational pass rusher. We need way more than a 1 or 2 down player. That was my problem. He's useless against the run.
At the time leading up tot he draft I thought he was Bruce Irvinish. Not a stand alone player, but someone that would only shine if you had the other positions taken care of. Also, I dont think Freeman has close to the season he had last year.
Who else was there? I've lamented numerous times how Shanahan tanking cost us Khalil Mack the previous draft, maybe if we had Mack, we could have taken Shaq THOmpson and poof there is an elite front 7
