Heading to Vegas for CFB opening weekend and wanted to kill some time at the Craps tables on the other days when not playing poker or being dragged by my girlfriend to an overpriced club max occupied by shit smeared mother fucktaints. Relationships require compromise, my friends. But, I'll save that topic for another day. Craps. How do you pros play? I have a real hard time not being a wrong bettor after running a lot of simulations. Someone talk me out of it. I don't feel like getting knifed in the back by a Hurricane Irene refugee.
Really hard to explain craps. The best way to learn is by watching. Personally, I play 6/8, max odds behind and parlay the hard ways.
I don't have a real defined pressing strategy, but I usually scoop 2 or 3 profits then start pressing. It all depends really I guess.
Stay away from the hard ways, and the horn. Make smaller initial pass bets, and max the odds. I often like to bet half of my pass bet on the field on the come out roll.
any advice for a beginner? heading up to AC in a week. what's the minimum amount of scratch i'll need to have to play (re: min bets and such)?
Do you know what the table minimus are? If they are $10 minimums the absolute minimum I'd want to sit down at a table with is $200. That said, you can play the real minimum which would be $10 and sit there and learn the game. Nothing wrong with that, but you'll feel miserable if the table is hot. Conversely, if it's a cold table you'd save a lot of money. I'd spend some time on youtube watching videos to get yourself familiar with how the game works.
thanks for the response. i've done some reading and watched youtubes so i think i have the general idea of the game's rules but obviously i'll have to actually play it to get a feel for the flow of the game. do you just play the pass the whole time and is that acceptable? can you explain pressing? do you have to make an odds bet before the first roll or can you make one after the point has been established? what are some other sound hedges besides come bets paired with a pass? do hard way bets hedge at all? if you make pass and come bets of the same value, do you just come out even or does one overrrule the other? thanks
Hope that helps Ben. Let me know what I can clarify. I'm sure you meant things that I misinterpreted.
much thanks, that cleared a lot up. so a come bet has a different point than your initial pass line bet right? that would explain why you said it's not really hedging anything i expect to pick up a lot of the strategy at the table but the more i understand in advance will keep me from doing dumb shit with my money. also it looks like the casino we will most likely be going to has 5 dollar minimums and 5x odds. $300 should be plenty to play the game comfortably right? my buddy brought about that and he said it lasted a long time because how conservatively he played
Yes. So lets say your come out roll (your pass line bet) is an 8. You have $10 on your pass line (now an 8 bet) and you put $10 on the come line. Next roll is 4. Your come bet moves to that 4. You put another $10 on the come line. Next roll is 5. same as above Next roll is 9. same as above. Next roll is 7. You get paid $10 for your come bet (7 pays $10 on the come out roll) but you lose every other bet. This is even worse if you have odds behind (as anyone betting the come line would). The opposite side of this is someone who is throwing all numbers. It can be like hitting a point every time they throw a number. The odds of this? Not great imo.
$300 should be more than enough to play with. You can play $1 hard ways regardless so you won't spend much just playing the pass line. If it's $5 I would max odds behind (worst case you lose $30). Just so you know how the odds work, they go 3x 4x 5x, so 4 and 10 are 3x your pass line bet, 5 and 9 4x your pass line bet, and 6 and 8 5x your pass line bet. These are all based on how likely the point hits before the shooter throws a 7.
Less likely rolls have the highest payouts. That's why odds are good. If you bet just the pass line, your $10 pays $10. If you play the odds, the less likely your number is to hit the better your odds. : This additional bet wins if the point is rolled again before a 7 is rolled (the point is made) and pays at the true odds of 2-to-1 if 4 or 10 is the point, 3-to-2 if 5 or 9 is the point, and 6-to-5 if 6 or 8 is the point.
ok. you had 6 and 8 as 5x odds and 4 and 10 as 3x odds, which should be reversed right? do you (personally) commonly make come bets? what does this mean? you only place odds bets on 6s and 8s?
NP man. Definitely best to make sure you feel comfortable before you dive in. TBQH, I would befriend a nice guy at the table and watch him play for a while - most guys are happy to explain what they're doing - that way you can feel confident and actually see what's going on. Good luck man. Let me know if I can answer anything else.
So placing bets is different than placing odds. Odds on placed bets: 9-5 for 4 or 10 bets ($10 pays $18), 7-5 for 5 or 9 bets ($10 pays $14), 7-6 on 6 and 8 ($12 pays $14). They will make you add that extra dollar on every interval for the 6 or 8 ($5 costs $6, $15 costs $18, etc).
bammer i dont expect that you read through my questions or patface's answers but any advice for a beginner?
The limit was 25 dollars since it was championship weekend. As always, I played 6&8 and hard 6&8. I had 30 on 6&8 each and started with 25 on hard 6&8. Every time the hardway hit I would double my hardways. The first time I left the table with 1200 after a 10 minute roll, then the next time after 5 minutes I walked away with 2350. Some sorostitute from Bama hit 3 or 4 hard 8's in five rolls then rolled a seven. I was pretty fucking stoked so I got the hell out of there and bought drinks all night for my buddies on Bourbon.
thats fucking awesome. so you brought 400 to a 25 minimum table? i guess it didn't matter but craps is a game where that could have been gone pretty quickly right?
I agree with all he is saying for the most part. I don't press my number bets usually unless the table is on fire. I'm a student so I don't have a huge bankroll or anything. First of all, stay away from all of the bullshit bets. Never bet the field, any one roll bets, or any of that other shit. I play the same things every time and it really works out for me. I agree wholeheartedly with patface, never play the dark side. The key to being successful to me is making consistent bets and sticking to a system. If I lose all of what I put on the table, I walk away. If I triple my money, I walk away. I can't afford not to and it really has worked out well for me over the past year.
Fuck yes. I was down to risk it though since I never get to gamble with my dad so I said fuck it. After two quick sevens I was down to like 55 dollars the second time. I was like whatever and I hit a couple of points and got back up to 200. Then, that bitch set fire. It was glorious. Sitting at that 25 minimum table was a horrible idea for a thin bankroll but I made an exception since I was with my dad.
I played 25 on the pass, 50 odds, and 30 on the 8&6, and 25 on the hard 6&8. I pressed only the hardways. It was a foolish strategy but I was only going to play for about 15 minutes so I let it ride I guess you could say.
Foolish because he didn't have the bankroll to keep it up more than a few rolls is probably what he meant haha
back from the worst city on the east coast. went up a few hundred bucks, left to go to the strip club when i was even, came back like an hour before we were leaving and lost 120. all in all not an awful night because i had fun and didn't lose all that i was prepared to.
hell yeah, great time. still recovering from physical and moral hangovers though. seriously that place is the worst.
My "strategy" (not a strategy at all): $5 Pass, 3-5x odds $1 yo come out rolls $1-$2 all of the hard ways usually always up Place 5,6,8,9 $5-$6 Usually some $5 come + odds Or $5+odds don't pass and then the hardways. The key to being a good darkside player is a lot of don't come + odds, because it's a loss limiter, but when you get a lot of anti-points out there and that 7 comes up then it's a nice pay.
Well the key to being a darkside player is being the guy that everyone hates. If I was only interested in making money craps wouldn't be the game I'm playing - it's by far the most fun game in the casino due to the camaraderie
Agreed, but I usually play darkside when it's just me and a buddy. So I can give him shit. When I play at a full table I'm pretty quiet about my wins, but I'm all when old guys talk down to me then a 7 comes.
I usually play $25 on Pass, $50 on odds, $10 on 4,5,9,10, $12 on 6,8, $5 any crap on come out roll. $1-$2 on hardways I was on the casino cruise a couple weeks and I played it like that, one dude literally was so hot he was rolling for a hour. Turned 500 into about 7,500. Then people crapped our 6 times in a row back to 2,000.
Then you should play $15 or $20 and max behind. Better odds. But seriously, we both know a degenerate like you has no problem throwing money out there.
I love craps, by far my favorite game. I'd like to hear some stories from some of you fuckers having great nights and taking home lots of money. I'm $5, $10 player. After the comeout, I put $6 on 6 and 8 and press it the first time it hits. If a 6 or 8 is the point, then I bet on 5 and 9 along with the 6 or 8 that isn't the point. I rarely bet on 4 and 10. If someone can hold the dice for a few rolls, I'll build up my numbers and pull in a little money that way. I'll throw a little out on the hardways and pick up a little spare change from them. The most I ever saw won on one roll was $1800. Dude hit a $60 midnight at 30-1. He was a happy motherfucker. The most I saw anyone cash out for was $38,000 on the first trip I went. It was around 10:00 in the morning and he was drunk as fuck. Had stacks of $100 all over the table and was hitting them.
