I'm not sure they offer anything on the WC yet. Not sure if that's changed in the month or so I've had it
Fire stick is booty. Gaming version is just a FireTV with a gaming controller. Def go for the Fire TV.
Same here with fire stick complaints. Have had problems with it crashing at times, had a problem where it was looping on and off, would get to the home screen then reset, now it's having a problem displaying anything. I'll turn it on and have audio but nothing on the tv, have to unplug it from the hdmi port and then plug it back in, that fixes it but kind of a PITA to do that every time I want to use it.
My fire stick's connection to my wifi is hit and miss...but more like miss 99 pecent of the time. I even had amazon send me a new one thinking i had a defective unit but new one sucked too. Got a roku stick and it works fine. So yeah i have 2 fire sticks that i dont use at all.
Haven't made it through the thread, but have a question: Does uverse still block you from using other uverse logins on uverse Internet? For example, when I was in law school, both my parents and I had uverse. I had HBO and they didn't. When I was at my parents house and tried to log into HBOGo the app blocked me because my parents were not subscribed to HBO. Anybody know if this still happens? Signed up for Comcast on Monday and they have fucked around all week and I still don't have Internet, so I cancelled today. Think my next best option is uverse unless it means I can't use any of the logins I have access to. Gracias in advance.
Is there a way to watch NFL Redzone without cable? Probably cutting the cord soon, but Redzone is almost a necessity.
There's a few options but the one I went with last year was to use NFL Game Watch. If you live out of the country you can pay like $200 for gamewatch,I just used my VPN to put me in another country to log in and then turn off my VPN so that my speeds are back up. It worked out well though and probably what I'll do again this year. They have a chromecast extension to put it on your tv but that was pretty hit or miss. I usually would just put one of the local games on my tv through my antenna and watch the redzone on my laptop or would plug straight into my tv with a hdmi cord if I wanted to get the redzone on the tv.
Downloaded the Pro Sport addon for Kodi a while back, but didn't try it out until yesterday. Can't recommend it enough so far. It aggregates a bunch of different sport stream subreddits automatically like NHLstreams, NBAstreams, MLBstreams, and NFLstreams. It also gives you the ability to manually link up other subreddits built for streaming. I manually linked up the SOCCERstreams subreddit yesterday and was streaming Sporting KC in HD. A lot easier to navigate than Sportsdevil.
This is awesome for me because of MLB's stupid blackout rules. Sling didn't even advertise this or let its paying members know about it as far as I knew, so thanks for posting.
Anyone have an NVIDIA Shield TV? It's expensive but it's got some great specs for a set top box and a pretty extensive gaming aspect. Thinking of pulling the trigger. It's probably lagging in some apps but devices always catch up. And Kodi can be used to watch anything. 4K resolution in Netflix, YouTube, Kodi, and Plex. I imagine more apps will follow. Also has chromecast capability built it. Amazon recently pushed updates to the FireTVs which blacklisted all the alternative non-root launchers. They did make it easier to launch 3rd party apps through their interface but it's still a little alarming. Kodi still works but there's likely a possibility that they come after that at some point if the firestick's popularity as a Kodi box continues to grow.
It would be surprising if any of the big video streaming services didn't implement live streaming within the year.
I am older than Methusala but will probably go with a Roku soon....am I being a fn idiot? Any recs or deals?
I'm guessing it would have to be an original series they would show live and I just don't get the point.
Depends if you're looking to cut cable/satellite altogether and/or are interested in using Kodi. If it's just too use apps for cable/subscription/premium channels (watchespn, hbogo, netflix, etc) then you'll like the Roku.
your kids will like it the apps make it easy to watch tv and movies on demand. I use it to complement the stuff I forget to dvr. There isnt much difference bw apple tv and roku.
Close the gap between them and cable subscriptions. Stuff like news shows, sports, live events, or even just new contracts which won't allow on demand.
Yea. Ok I could see news. That makes sense along with sports/live events. I was thinking in a series type of fashion that I couldn't make sense of
They kind of all do the same thing. The irritating thing is none of them do everything. You should look into all of them and weigh your options. I don't have one but the Chromecast makes shit dealing with Google easier to put on your TV. The firestick is what i have but if you go the amazon route, get the fire TV. My stick is a touch slow for my tastes. The TV is faster
whereas if youre like me and use all apple the apple tv works great for the air play i have a roku in my bedroom that I love tho, and I can connect an external HD drive with all my movie downloads. Put my Sunday Ticket subscription on there too. wish they all did the same things, but some are better fit for diff ppl.
If someone could ever get apple/Google/amazon/netflix/YouTube/vudu/etc on the same player, they'd make boat loads of cash. It'll never happen for obvious reasons but i can dream
The boxee box did all this it didn't sell well and they stopped supporting it. It should have been the only box anyone ever needed. It would stream anything and read any type of formatted external. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxee_Box
TWC fires a marine for lowering the flag on Memorial Day -- BY MICHAEL GORDON [email protected] When Charlotte veteran Allen Thornwell lowered his employer’s American flag to half-staff on Memorial Day, he says he did not think to ask permission or consider the possibility that he had done anything wrong. Instead, the 29-year-old former Marine, who served in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, says he was thinking about his country, the meaning of the holiday and his best friend, Geoff, another Marine who killed himself two years ago after returning stateside. On Tuesday, Thornwell was fired. A manager at the placement service that arranged the vet’s job at Time Warner Cable in Charlotte told him that the company was disturbed by Thornwell’s “passion for the flag and (his) political affiliation.” Thornwell also took his outrage to Facebook, naming Time Warner and posting a video. Contacted this week, Thornwell said he remains in shock over what happened. “I’m not even mad right now,” he says. “I don’t know what kind of moral compass you need to fire a veteran on Memorial Day for lowering the flag.” A Time Warner Cable spokesman confirmed Friday that the former Marine “was no longer under contract” with the company but declined further comment. Thornwell said he landed the job through Principal Solutions Group, a technology-based employment service. Contacted Friday, Thornwell’s placement manager, Nicki Warren, said she was not allowed to discuss personnel matters. Charlotte attorney Murph Archibald, whom Thornwell called after the incident, says his client should have never lost his job. “It’s disgraceful,” says Archibald, a Vietnam vet. “He didn’t do anything wrong. He’s a veteran working on Memorial Day who corrected what he thought was a disrespectful flying of the American flag ... I would have taken it down myself.” Whether Time Warner Cable was improperly displaying the flag during the country’s annual tribute to its dead veterans is a matter of debate. The U.S. Flag Code, which offers guidance on how to fly the flag during holidays, says the banner should be at half-staff until noon on Memorial Day then returned to its normal position. Thornwell said the incident took place around 2:30 p.m. Thornwell, who was discharged in 2014, said he was aware of the holiday protocol but was moved to lower the flag anyway. He wishes now that he had asked permission. “I didn’t think of it as the property of Time Warner Cable,” he says. “It’s everybody’s flag.” An angry reaction Thornwell began Marine boot camp less than a week after he graduated from Phillip O. Berry in 2005. His mother, Teresa Magaña of Charlotte, describes her son as a quiet and calm man who is passionate about the military, his country and the “rights of people.” After his tour in Afghanistan in 2008-09, she says she noticed that he began to show a greater need for order and for having things done the right way. Thornwell was a month into a six-month contract with Time Warner Cable when he says he got a call from work on the morning of Memorial Day, asking him to work a 2 to 7 p.m. shift. Thornwell specialized in technical support and served as a radio operator in the military. At Time Warner, he amounted to a troubleshooter, keeping watch for service outages, then quickly assembling a team to respond and fix the problems. On Monday, he arrived at the company’s service center off Arrowood Road having left his security badge at home. A boss sent him to pick up a replacement. Waiting outside the security office, he noticed the nearby flag at full-staff. Without a word to anyone, Thornwell says he marched, Marine-style, to the pole, lowered the flag to a midway point, came to full attention, then about-faced and walked away. He didn’t salute. He says Marines don’t salute when out of uniform. Inside the security building, Thornwell said he was told by one of the guards that “It’s company policy that no one touches the flagpole.” By the time Thornwell left – and only a few minutes after he had lowered it – the flag was back at full-staff. Thornwell said he reacted angrily at what he took as a sign of disrespect to him and other vets. He can be heard cursing twice in a short video he shot at the scene with his phone. He said he wanted to send a message to military personnel around the world that “this is what the people back home think about us.” The former Marine says he was never disrespectful or out of control. In fact, he said the security guard escorting him back to his work station told him, “I fought. I understand.” That night on Facebook, Thornwell posted the photos he took of the flag at full- and half-staff, and brief video of himself talking to the camera as he walked back to his job site. He stamped the footage “Timewarner.” He put this title on the post: “So many years wasted. I’m telling you ... PEOPLE DON’T GIVE A F***.” The next day before work, he says he got a call from Warren, his placement manager: “Can you tell me what happened yesterday?” Time Warner, she told him, had canceled his contract. Failure to communicate Did the company overreact? Did Thornwell? Who can say for sure. Retired Marine Col. Chris Woodbridge, though, calls the incident “a very sad misunderstanding” that illustrates a widening gap between the country and its military. Today, fewer than 1 percent of Americans wear a uniform. “Not only do the vast majority not serve, but they don’t really know anybody who does,” says Woodbridge, editor of the monthly Marine Corps Gazette. Thus, their perception of the men and women in uniform gravitates to stereotypical extremes: from hyper-patriotic coverage that focuses on honor and courage to more critical depictions of loner vets who are shell-shocked and violent, he says. On the other hand, he says, veterans can experience a strong sense of alienation when they return to something “they don’t recognize and they don’t understand. Sometimes symbols, like the flag, mean a lot. Because they represent something of an ideal ... (an) ideal we fought for.” Thornwell strongly disputes the notion that he fits the stereotype of the displaced and brooding vet. He does acknowledge that he is still dealing with post-traumatic stress and other emotional problems left from his service, but he says his actions at the flagpole were never excessive. In fact, Thornwell attributes his behavior to deeper emotions he felt throughout the day about his country, his dead friend and his own service. For the first time in his life, he says, he understood the true meaning of Memorial Day, and he felt it, too. Now he needs a job. First, he would like an apology – for him and other vets. Exclusive: Full Breakdown of Hulu’s New Live TV Service http://cordcuttersnews.com/exclusive-full-breakdown-of-hulus-new-live-tv-service/
Damn, the $35 tier has every single channel I have set as a favorite on my Harmony remote. If I can get locals (antenna doesn't work out where I live) I might have to spring for that. That's a heck of a lot cheaper than what I am paying for now.
I'm gonna need you all to guide me through my chord cutting visionquest. Goal: <$100/month for three tvs.
Step One - Figure out what media players you need / already have - Order those (fire TV, chrome cast, etc.) Step Two - Put an antenna in your attic and hook into existing wiring Step Three - Profit.
Guys, over the weekend I discovered the greatness of Kodi and Exodus, and now I want it on my TV. I have an ATV4, but it looks like I can't sideload it anymore onto that. What would you recommend as a device to utilize Kodi on my TV. I'm thinking the Fire TV, because of 4K capability, but maybe there's a better or cheaper option?
I use Fire TV. It has a better interface than the Fire Stick. The Prime Day coming up should have them on sale for around 70 or so.
Haven't read back to see if this has been discussed, but it looks like data caps are really gonna fuck with streamers and users of torrance. Luckily, I'm dropping my uverse internet upon moving next week and it looks like charter internet doesn't have data caps.
I was pretty concerned when ATT moved to a data cap but so far so good. I get a TB and haven't even come close. Soon as google fiber is up and running in my area, hopefully in the next year, I'll be switching to them anyway.
