Cool, I remember one or two references but nothing at length. I am not at all arguing with either of you, just saying my ADHD probably kicked in and I must have zoned out.
I feel like it was in episode 3 where it was discussed in depth. The episode description talks about how the idea of a quick war ends, trench war begins, and both sides develop murderous tools/tactics to fight that style of warfare.
As a bonus/premium episode, which leads me to believe it's not a must listen to wrap up the series. I'll be purchasing it though.
I haven't bought any of his podcasts yet. I may have to now that I don't have bill Simmons podcasts for the rest of the summer
Just finished History Of Rome Podcast. I feel so accomplished. Probably took over a year. Good stuff. Think my next pod to catch up/marathon will be The Ancient World Podcast.
Finally started listening to Common Sense. Dan is just a really smart guy. I don't always 100% agree with him, but he definitely thinks in a very logical, easy to relate to way.
Wow, this last Armageddon is absolutely horrible. He completely abandoned the narrative and does what I hate from him- bounces around his ideas with no real direction. He has been talking about oil for an hour now...
https://twitter.com/10USAp/with_replies everyone with twitter tweet at this dude for being a tasteless asshole with his garbage audio editing
Lol, I never actually looked at the President's twitter page... President ObamaVerified account @POTUS Dad, husband, and 44th President of the United States. Dad, husband, and the most powerful / important man in the world nbd
He seems to do things on events that arent as popular or analyzed as it should be like Marius and Sulla. Octavian vs Antony/Cleopatra is like the Romeo and Juliet of ancient history. There's so much that went on, but imo most of the major events are pretty well known and their importances documented. Even Octavian/Augustus' life is really well known and understood by even the most laymen of Roman history fans iyam If he decides to do another Ancient History one, I'd like to see it on Alexander the Great's death and how his empire fragmented. I'm sure he'd do a stellar job on addressing all the conspiracies involved around it
Tweeted him again. What a twat. "Cinema for the ears" @10USAp: @TrumansHuman @HardcoreHistory thanks for the feedback, we are trying to create cinema for the ears We know that its not for everyone though
Yeah I was kinda like damnit! when it ended. I get that the show was just about the Roman Republic, not the Roman Empire, but really wanted to hear about Octavian.
I'm half way through the Wrath of the Khans podcasts thanks to this thread. Good stuff, something a bit different for the commute to/from work.
Has anyone listened to this weekend's common sense? At the end he gives a little state of the union for his pods. I cant tell if he's going to take more time to put out HH or less.
I took it to mean he's going to do all HH for the foreseeable future but will suspend work on it if he finds new material for Common Sense. He doesn't want to produce both simultaneously anymore and feels that he's recycling CS topics.
That's what I thought, but wasnt sure. Couldn't tell if he was putting CS aside, or HH. That sounds good to me. I like CS, but not at the expense of HH. However, I think that might be easier said than done for him with the 2016 elections ramping up.
More Hardcore History is exactly what I hope we get lol. I started Wrath of the Khans this week. The man can tell a story as well as anyone I've come across. I'm not even that interested in the Mongolians, but he makes it a fascinating story (it is on its own accord, I just prefer non-slant eye history). His hyperbole is my favorite when it comes out, though, the Mongolians are the fifth or sixth greatest army of all time according to Carlin by my count.
Has anyone kept up with Revolutions? just two eps left in the French Rev. Im looking forward to new subject matter.
I listen to it from time to time but only on like episode 25. It took me a year to get through rome and I was burnt out from Cassius dio on. Kind of want to enjoy this one more, as the French Revolution is hilariously interesting Ive heard him mention doing a series on the history of us political parties before. I think that would be an awesome series.
New History Podcast that's recommended by Dan Carlin - History on Fire by Daniele Bolelli. Ive heard this dude on Rogan's podcast before. Really interesting dude. These seem to be more a deep dive in the style of HH. First ep is on the Slave Revolts of the Roman Republic/Empire.
Hopefully he doesn't produce episodes semi annually like Carlin atm Any word on what his next product will be?
He said he hopes to put out 8-10 episodes a year. Carlin - no clue. He said he was going to set Common Sense aside and focus on HH. So hopefully something soonish
Not this episode. I just listened while @ the gym. There were two big slave revolts prior that he discusses in this first episode. Spartacus is next ep.
He's still doing Common Sense he's just not going to give himself a strict timeline for it to be out so he can work on getting Harcore History out more often.
I wish he would do it weekly like History of Rome did. 25 minute episodes weekly would be preferable to 4 hours with no set release or schedule.
Would be at the top of my list too. The stories about Cortez escaping tenactitlan(sp) and hearing his men dragged up and sacrificed as he fled would be as good as any. Hope all the sources aren't all in Spanish and I doubt he learns aztec It won't happen but someone should do it
I'm going to start it next... I've almost finished History of Rome. I'm sort of considering reading a book or two about Aurelian if I can find something good, but the French Revolution and Bonaparte seem interesting enough.
English Revolution series was really interesting because I really didnt know too much about it. American was great, but not much info I didnt know. French is crazy. I knew the basics, but it's so incredibly intricate. It's also 3+ times longer than the UK and American series. Super interesting, but Im glad it's coming to an end.
A french revolution podcast could rival the rome one in length if done right French history from the bastlle to the paris commune is pretty awesome. It has something for everyone from art hipsters to mass military world war
