Too much time. Should have run an intentional intentional ground play. All the shitty coaches are doing it.
that xp miss probably worked out better. WIth the tie, the lions go conservative and lose in OT. I dunno. The game ends in fuckery and clown play. A win is a win.
Fuck yeah. Give me more of that version of Stafford, please. Dude was Marino-ing hard on that last drive yelling at people.
Also, I'm not sure what Caldwell should have done in terms of his TOs on Indy's drive. There's certainly an argument that he should have called TO after one of those plays, but you're kind of in no-man's land there. You call them, and you're making Indy tougher to defend. You don't, and at least you're keeping them pass oriented, I guess. I can see either argument. He's a bad game manager. It's his biggest issue as a coach. I guess I just don't think today was an egregious example of that.
Before Cooter in 2015: 4 games, 15 catches, 179, 2 TDs 3.75 catches per game, 44.75 yards per game, 0.5 TDs per game Since Cooter was hired: 10 games, 32 catches, 315 yards, 3 TDs 3.2 catches per game, 31.5 yards per game, 0.3 TDs per game I threw out his atrocious rookie year, because it doesn't really matter. That was definitely a nice game for Ebron. He caught all 5 passes sent his way, made 2 really nice catches, and fit into the offense nicely. Dwayne Allen (3rd round draft) and Jack Doyle (UDF) did the same for the Colts.
I still can't believe we took Ebron over Odell Beckham and Aaron Donald. Or just about anyone else taken between us and the Browns taking Manziel at 22. If you look at the guys taken immediately after Ebron, I think just about everyone has panned out, and some of those guys are legitimate superstars. It was almost an impossible pick to fuck up, and we Lions'd the shit out of it.
Were we really going to take another WR in the first round especially after Calvin was an absolute monster and we got Tate? Or a DL after we already had Suh and Fairley? I get the point and hate the pick, but this is some serious MMQB shit going on.
I vocally wanted Zach Martin at the time of the pick. I was TEQB'ing. He's ended up being an All Pro guard, and while 10 seems high for a guard, it is also very high for a TE. Would have allowed us to NOT draft Laken Tomlinson the next year, too. But whatevs, hopefully Ebron springs into being a top 10 TE this year so the pick won't be a total waste.
Aside from a couple slappies, just about everyone hated the pick. So there's no MMQB going on there. Sure, I think many would have gone after a need other than WR. But given a choice of Ebron or Beckham/Donald, I would have gone Beckham/Donald 10/10 times.
By the 2014 draft we also knew that we weren't picking up Fairley's option and that he was largely a bust, and should have known that Suh wasn't guaranteed to come back. Cutting Fairley and drafting Donald would have been a completely valid draft strategy, but nobody hated admitted their own mistakes more than Martin Mayhew. I definitely think the Beckham love is a little MMQB - I don't remember anybody speficially wanting him during that draft until he blew up when the season started. I think most of the interest was on Donald, Martin and Kyle Fuller and maybe Ha-Ha or Shazier.
In ESPN's NFL Power Rankings, the Lions are 22nd. They fell 2 spots from preseason 20, despite winning on the road over poll's #18 team, which fell to 19. That's right, the Lions beat the Colts on the road and are now 3 spots behind them after being 2 spots behind them heading into the game. The Colts were 18, lost to the 22nd "best" team at home and dropped 1 spot, while the Lions beat a team ahead of it on the road and dropped 2 spots behind (i) the Eagles, who beat the Browns, (ii) the Falcons, who lost at home to the Bucs, and (iii) the Cowboys, who lost at home and moved up 5 spots. Obviously these sorts of rankings are completely meaningless, but that seems pretty arbitrary.
Levy say out practice with a quad injury. We shouldn't need him this week but I hope this doesn't become a common occurrence.
Ansah is out. Levy is out. We're going to need points. So yeah, punt on 4th and short. Fucking retard.
