And Wilson throws a wild pitch ahead of a 2 run double and just came inches from giving up a 2 run dong. Great job, Brad. Really smooth.
Hey hey, Frankie K. Tigers now 5-5 in their last 10 with a 4 game winning streak and are 2 games under, with the rotation pitching better and the offense showing signs of life. Hooray for the Twins!
Kinsler has been extremely impressive so far this year. That was a great trade as Fielder is back to being horrendous.
It's his biggest problem as a manager. He's old school very much in the way that he waits for his starter to give him a reason to take him out, as opposed to saying "thanks for the 7 innings, time for someone else". Leyland was the same way, but he had one of the greatest rotations in the modern era doing the work. The way the game is managed now by many of the best is almost opposite of that. It's hard to weigh how much the bullpen pushes him in that direction, but at some point it doesn't matter. You have to go for the fresh arm instead of always hoping for one more inning from the guy who has already thrown 6 of them. I get why they've done it with Verlander, because he built his rep on incredible finishes to his starts and hitting 100 in the 8th to get out of jams, but he's not that guy anymore. As bad as his #s look the last 2+ years, I bet his ERA would be at least .3 or .4 better during that stretch if his manager just took him out when every other pitcher gets taken out. That's a huge difference.
You guys heard about these proposed rule changes? 1.) Changing the strike zone from the bottom of the knee to the top of the knee 2.) Giving a batter 1st base rather than making a pitcher throw 4 balls on an intentional walk
He's been pretty good from time to time, but when you're into your 2nf reliever in the 6th because your nominal 3rd starter unable to go 6, bullpen depth is hard to maintain.
It's not going to the letters. That would be disastrous. All they have to do is call it consistently at the belt and they'll be fine. The potential issues are: - This seems more likely to slow the game down than speed it up; and - Without robot umps, these guys are just going to continue being terrible because nothing happens to them anyway
Nice slider from Fulmer last inning to go w/ high 90s FB. Pretty encouraging to pitch that well over 100 pitches.
Would be surprised if we went for a HS bat. Seems like there are a bunch of HS pitchers in that range that we would take instead. Maybe if one of the college bats fell to us I could see it, but seems like we're more likely to take a HS pitcher who throws hard (like Pint).
If the draft were to fall that way, the HS player I think they would take would be SS Delvin Perez from Puerto Rico. Supposedly, they've followed him a lot and he's considered by some to be the highest ceiling guy in the draft (supposedly great defensive SS, but questions about his hitting and off field/maturity stuff). Detroit has taken a decent amount of players from PR in recent years, and I could definitely see them going that route. He basically fits the profile of every decently sized signing they've made for middle infielders in Latin America for the last decade.
Nice week, considering there were legit reasons to think Ausmus wouldn't even make it to Tuesday at the start of the week. Hope Miggy is just a one day thing, because he's starting to really swing it of late. Zimmermann being out at all is potential disaster.
Catherine Slonksnis @CSlonksnis 4m4 minutes ago No move made regarding Zimmermann yet. Wait and see. Other news, VerHagen down to Toledo and Farmer up. Catherine Slonksnis @CSlonksnis 2m2 minutes ago Zimmermann is getting an MRI. Nothing done until those results get back.
Med. You are doing to be downtown the whole time? There is a state of Michigan thread that might be better to have questions answered.
I'd definitely recommend eating at Bucharest Grille, Grand Trunk is really good and it's right by Hart Plaza, they have a shit load of different beers. Slows To Go on Cass has excellent BBQ if you have time/transportation. Detroit Beer Co. is close to Hart Plaza as well, they have pretty good food. Green Dot Stables has tons of different sliders which are excellent.
A few weeks back, Cabrera wasn't really hitting (especially for power) and I started to think I should accept the likelihood of him no longer being what I remembered the last few years. These last 10 days have been rather fun.
He's bascially been the same the last 4 starts. Only difference in the Texas start was Ausmus wasn't quick enough with the hook and he gave up 2 HR and 3 ER in the 6th inning. He's a 5 inning pitcher, which is the same he was last year with Minnesota. Tough to get a lot of wins that way, and not worth the money we paid him, unfortunately.
Jason Beck @beckjason Miguel Cabrera hasn't swung and missed on a pitch since his second at-bat Wednesday. He has taken 32 swings since then.
He's been a 5-ish inning pitcher since 2011. We're left hoping he can pitch effectively enough through the 155-165 innings he'll pitch this year to be in the 2 WAR range. He certainly hasn't so far and I don't see any reason why that will change, except that he threw at least 6 in half his starts last year (14 of 30) so maybe he's got a "better" stretch ahead of him. But we can't go a full season with a "bullpen day" getting 20 regular starts (in addition to Anibal), so at some point two of Greene, Fulmer, Norris and Boyd need to be the back end of the rotation or they have to trade for an upgrade.
