Lynn G. Henning @Lynn_Henning Tigers and Derek Hill get a bad break. He'll be gone until at least mid-2017 after Tommy John surgery.
Fuck these injuries. Hill was getting really good reports from prospect people of late, too. Mark Anderson did his top 10 and had Hill #1, saying he had taken a huge jump this season, even if the #s didn't support it. Was backed up by several scouting types suggesting the same. I think he's had at least 4 injuries now since being drafted that have cost him at least 3-4 weeks at a time.
fuck Upton. Might go down as worst free agent signing in team history. At least Fielder was good for two years. We needed him to step it up in August, and he responds with a 6-40. Eat shit
He should be ready to bat by April. They will probably DH him until he's ready to play the field. He needs the at bats, we already know he will be fine in the field.
Ausmus does things that just make no sense to me sometimes. James McCann is actually very good against LHP. I'm going to get stat nerdy here, but he's got a 134 wRC+, a .372 wOBA, and .298 ISO against LHP this season. Small sample size, but he hit LHP really well last year, too (149, .390, .237 in the same categories). Against RHP, McCann has a 15 wRC+, a .198 wOBA, and .056 ISO this season. And that's counting last night's game when he had a HR and 2B. I would think that's the equivalent of what a non-prospect A baller could do in similar ABs. So we go into this series v. Texas where we face a RHP on Friday and Sunday, and a LHP on Saturday. What does Ausmus do? He starts McCann Friday and likely Sunday, and Salty tonight. Of course "baseball" happens and McCann was great last night, but what the fuck? How can anyone go into a series like this with that as your gameplan?
Hope Ausmus is just playing Romine at SS today and is going to mostly give those ABs to Machado the next 2 weeks. Playing a guy who isn't better than him in any way just because he's a veteran would be a waste of an opportunity to see what Machado could do.
I get wanting Fulmer to finish the shutout, but it's dumb to me to send him out there at 95ish pitches for the 9th inning of a 7-0 game. Take him out and save as many bullets as you can.
Fulmer is now qualified for the ERA title, and leads by more than half a run over second place in the AL.
This Boston writer says the Tigers are pulling a "bush-league move" by not moving Thursday's game v. Boston from the afternoon to night. Says it probably has something to do with Dombrowski being there now, and DD appears to concur. Twitter is making sure this guy feels as dumb as possible, especially considering the Lions are at home that night. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/...ow_well_see_who_real_red_sox_are_on_road_trip
I'm not sure why they'd schedule the first game of the Boston series for a day game on a Thursday, even with a Lions exhibition game, but I don't blame them. I think Dave complained about teams scheduling night games on getaway day for years and the Red Sox were a major offender.
Maybe they should try to keep their Wednesday night game in Baltimore under 4 hours. And complain about Baltimore making them play a night game before they have to travel.
It would be nice to win 10-11 of the next 16 games, taking us through August. 13 of 16 at home against the Royals, Red Sox, Angels and White Sox and the 3 road games are against the Twins. Winning every series would have us at 15 games over .500 heading into September. The schedule is really pretty good from here on out. 45 games left and only 14 against teams with winning records. 27 of the 45 are at home.
i remember Buster Olney's blog predicted a really tough 2nd half schedule, but considering our recent stretch vs Bos/Hou/NYM/Seattle/Tex guess we already burned through most of our .500+ schedule. 10-5 in those series ...
Currently 4.5 back of Cleveland and 2 back of Boston. So basically a reset to the end of July. Fucking Seattle.
Tigers are definitely doing it to screw with them. This schedule was out long before the Lions came out. Hopefully we win that game.
I think it is better for us that Boston beat Cleveland today. Hopefully we get a win tonight, cutting the lead down to 4 and continue to be 1 half back of Boston. Having New York beat Toronto tonight would be nice as well.
Detroit Tigers @tigers 1m1 minute ago The #Tigers today have acquired INF Erick Aybar from Atlanta in exchange for INF Mike Aviles and C Kade Scivicque.
I'm not mad because no more Aviles, and Iglesias isn't supposed to miss more than another 10 or so days. Aybar sucks at this point, though, and I would rather see what Machado has.
So instead of releasing the guy, we give up something of value to get rid of him? Aybar is the sAme type of player. We should have just called up Cale Iorg.
No, they'll try to win next year, then give JD a qualifying offer. Hopefully Upton has a better year and Boras opts him out and they'll sign JD to his money.
