Oh thank god. Jayson Stark @jaysonst 51s52 seconds ago #Tigers called teams today & told them they're "rebooting." Will listen on David Price, Cespedes etc. More to come at http://ESPN.com
Sounds like the Blue Jays are gonna sell the farm for a one game play-in. Would 2 of Norris/Sanchez/Stroman work for Price?
I think the best Detroit could possibly do from Toronto (and I think this is a real stretch, with Detroit also kicking in almost all the money for Price's salary) is something like Norris + either Max Pentecost or Sean Reid-Foley. The good news is that, if LA is as interested as believed, it might take that kind of package to get him over what LA could offer.
I'm shocked they're doing this, btw. They've been looking for any reason to keep hope alive, and today was the best sign they could have possibly gotten. Good for DD if he goes through with this.
I would like to believe he's been fielding offers as well as watching what is happening on the field and in the standings, and was able to tell Mr. I that he's got really good offers for the guys he's making available. - Price is probably worth a top 40 prospect, a top 100 prospect and another guy (the first two who would immediately become our best prospects). - Yoenis is worth maybe a top 80-120 guy and another decent prospect (the first who immediately becomes one of our top five prospects). - Soria is worth a decent AA starter and a strong armed relief pitcher. - Alex should be worth a couple fringe prospects. - Raja might bring in a couple of fringe prospects. - Pasta is fucking worthless. - Kinsler could be a wild card (he was the guy to trade to the Royals, not Price). We're talking maybe 10 or more minor leaguers, 7-8 who might immediately be in our top 20 prospects. I'm extremely intrigued.
I'm not upset they're selling, but every Tiger fan who bought Extra Innings deserves a partial refund
Are they really going to be harder to watch now than the last 3 months? If Verlander and Sanchez get their shit together, they'll probably have a better winning percentage.
And Lobstein is on his way back!!! Frankly, I listened to 90% of the games on mlb.com in '03, so I don't even care about you poor youngesters who paid for extra innings this year. If he wasn't fucking terrible for April and May, we'd be buying.
But the last two months, Anibal has been fine: 11 starts, 7-3, 76.1 IP, 62 Ks, 3.42 ERA, OPS Against of .700 The 11 home runs in that time are certainly high and the Ks are down a bit, but even the K rate is at his career rate this year. He was just terrible for 5 of his first 10 starts.
I can't believe writers are suggesting we can get Julio Urias for David Price. "A close second contender might just be the Dodgers, even after they acquired Mat Latos from the Marlins on Tuesday. The Dodgers have to love the idea of going into the playoffs with a rotation led by Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke and Price. They have the pitching prospect, in lefty Julio Urias, the Tigers might covet most, but they're not getting both Arias and third base / outfield prospect Corey Seager, which is fine. The Tigers might want pitching, and only pitching, in all of their trades" http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sp...get-back-here-are-the-possibilities/30852397/
Writers can suggest anything. But the Dodgers have watched Kershaw crumble twice in spectacular fashion at money time, and may see Price as the guy who can take the pressure off him and get them a ring.
Yeah, stuff like this sets everyone up to be disappointed when a realistic offer comes through. We're not getting Urias, and we're not getting Seager.
Some of those SF pitchers he listed aren't prospects at all (two of the four I saw were 25 and 27, respectively). I would also be worried about a deal with Heston in it. If we're moving Price, we need to go for upside. As a decent MLB arm right now, Heston takes away from the upside we could bring in. I guess I could go for a package of Beede + Mella, but only if the Dodgers and Jays really fall short in their offers.
Dave Gershman @Dave_Gershman 10m10 minutes ago SOURCE: #Mets close to acquiring OF Yoenis Cespedes from Tigers Dave Gershman @Dave_Gershman 9m9 minutes ago Talks "very fluid." #Mets pushing Jon Niese and other prospects, players not named Wheeler, says source. Dave Gershman @Dave_Gershman 6m6 minutes ago Third team (could be SD or LAD) might be involved.
Those tweets don't make it seem like a deal is all that "close" to me, but the Mets make the most sense with Cespedes.
Jon Niese is a league average-ish LHP on a reasonable contract. He doesn't miss a ton of bats in the NL, and is a #4/innings eater at best at this point. A few years back, he was considered a little bit better but he's had a lot of injuries the last few years.
Tim Brown @TBrownYahoo 3m3 minutes ago At this hour, Mets pushing very hard for Carlos Gomez, source says...
I'd take him in addition to Matz...mostly so I don't have to watch us run someone worse out there the rest of the year.
That's pretty much the purpose of guys like Niese. You pay him $8-10m a year to be average because the alternative is guys like Buck Farmer and Shane Greene.
Just an FYI for people who don't subscribe to any prospect sites and/or don't know a ton about prospects outside of the Tiger org, here's a pretty good link from mlbpipeline.com for when names come up over the next few days: http://m.mlb.com/prospects/2015?list=la That goes to the Dodgers' top 30 guys, but they have top 30s for every org.
Sounds like Alex Wood is going to the Dodgers in that Latos trade. I wonder if he could end up in a package for Price?
Joel ShermanVerified account@Joelsherman1 #Mets have gotten Carlos Gomez Post has learned' Chris Cotillo @ChrisCotillo 16s16 seconds ago Mets have acquired Carlos Gomez from the Brewers for Wilmer Flores and Zack Wheeler, per @Joelsherman1 and @MartinoNYDN.
I wondered how many teams have their 4th and 8th prospect from the June draft that July. I guess first rounders are supposed to be good, but a high school pitcher taken in the 20s should be 4, and a corner outfielder taken with a compensation pick shouldn't be top 10.
From an NY Daily News article A source said that GM Brian Cashman has "no intention" of dealing any of the Yankees' top four prospects - Luis Severino, Aaron Judge, Greg Bird or Jorge Mateo - but a package led by Ivan Nova and Gary Sanchez could be enough to deal for Price.
Nova has two more years of club control, has pitched 30 games total the last 2.5 years and is starting to earn real cash.
Bob Nightengale @BNightengale 3m3 minutes ago The #Dodgers will do everything possible to get #Tigers David Price, knowing once he's in LA, they'll have inside track in signing him as FA
I'm having a hard time seeing how the Tigers and Yankees line up in terms of prospects even if they didn't make non-elite prospects unavailable. I would imagine Detroit would like LH reliever Jacob Lindgren, but at best he's the 2nd player in a deal. They don't have a #1 option there to move because they don't have pitching outside of their top prospect.
