When Browan left Jason Isbell he played for the Pollies until recently when he started his own thing. In spite of his background he sounds nothing like those guys on his own. The Pollies still play at Pegasus Records in Florence.

 

Dexateens are another band DBT fans would like. This was Matt Patton's band before he took over Shonna's bass duties in the band.

The album version of this track is faster-paced and better IMO, but you get the idea.

 

Browan joined up with dumptime and they're making some pretty killer music

 

He can play like a motherfucker, but that front man game ridiculous. "For the Givers and the Takers" wasn't my thing though, unfortunately. He did play with Lauderdale for a while and I really like them.

I loved Lucero's self-titled and Tennessee but they sounded so different to me on 1372 Overton Park that I just quit listening to them.

I am a long time fan, and loved 1372, but I never heard their recent one. Heard it wasnt good.

 

I did too. It's not their best but certainly worth a listen.

The fireplace poker is a great song.

As another longtime fan, their albums have digressed IMO. But I the old messy stuff as opposed to the new, cleaner sound with horns included. There is still not much better than a Lucero live show.

sounds good, like that the guys are with Fat Possum now. But Payton's voice will be missed IMO.

Payton Bradford, drums/banjo/other, stopped touring for personal reason. actually don't even know if he was involved in recording or not.

Would I be chastised in this thread if I said current Isbell > current DBT?

 

I go back and forth after every live show. so no.

 

I don't think so. Isbell's last two albums have been stacked with awesome songs. DBT's last two have been interspersed with great songs and a little too much Shonna IMO. They certainly don't stack up to DD or TDS or SRO. But there's some great stuff on there like Cartoon Gold, Used to be a Cop, Thanksgiving Filter, Fourth Night of My Drinking, Birthday Boy, After the Scene Dies, etc.

What keeps current DBT amazing is the live performances. I, personally, think a debate can be made for both with no real winner because they're both awesome.

 

just had a similar discussion on our team board. guy was wishing that Isbell was performing at Shaky Knees instead of DBT. I told him that was like sipping 12 yr old Macallan while wishing for Glenlivet 12
