Only thing I would add is the replayability (prob not a word, but whatever) of the old stuff. I listen to songs from Pizza Deliverance about as often as I do from the new records.
I have Dirty South and Pizza Deliverance on vinyl, so those get played much more than any of the new stuff
I agree and DBT has a much deeper catalog. The two cds (cds not playlists) that I listen to the most are The Dirty South and Jason Isbell & the 400 Unit Speaking of old, old DBT, Wife Beater is underrated IMO
Huge fan of Late for Church & Panties in Your Purse from Gangstabilly. Believe Here We Rest and SRO are my most played CDs.
I just can't quit replaying the Isbell live album and came to the revelation that his solo stuff is right up there. IMO
If they're playing across the street from each other, I stage a murder attempt in between the two venues. Like maybe I hire a buddy to shoot me in the abdomen and leg. I'll miss both of the shows because I'll be in the hospital but then I request that both acts play a private show for me. That's how I would get around that tough decision.
Well, I know someone who won't be on the list for Clown Baby's DBT/Isbell extravaganza. If they give me two make-a-wishes, the first is to penetrate Amanda Shires. The second is the concert
Disregard, I thought you were saying "I was looking forward to this, but then it turned out to be a dud"
Nah, man. It far exceeded my expectations and turned into one of my favorite albums ever. A few posts later I was praising Sirens of a Ditch which is great in its own right but I never dreamed that Isbell would release the masterpiece that is Southeastern.
Really, really enjoyed this one at the last show. The chorus had me hooked after the first go around and most folks I saw were singing along by the second time.
Going from memory: "You thought God was an architect, now you know He's more like pipe bomb ready to blow Everything you've built that's all for show Goes up on flames In twenty-four frames"
Isbell is on Letterman tomorrow night, Seinfeld is the main guest. It's like Dave called me up and asked me who I would want to be on.
Saw Isbell last week. Good show but not near as good or emotional feeling as last year's when Shires was with him. Last year you could just feel it a lot more and it was honestly one of the best concerts I've ever seen, period. It's not quite the same when another dude is singing the harmony. He played a new song (24 Frames) off his album and said it was the first time they'd ever played it at a show. He said he normally doesn't do that before the record is out.
The slide on 24 Frames sounds similar to the solo in Yvette but the song itself songs like something from Decoration Day
I have full faith in Isbell because he's probably the best songwriter out there write now. The best thing is that he doesn't write "singles" so I take Twenty-Four Frames as an indication that the new album is incredibly badass.
I'm just getting into him. My two favorites are elephant and God damn lonely love. Recommend me some more songs
