I love Gun Fightin' Man, and Adventures of You and Me actually reminded me of some of his real early stuff, like Wishbone Saloon/Poor Boys Amen era. I've got it second among his, behind Mescalito, and they're so very different, but I like it more than Isbell's new one. Although, that could change as the number of listens to each even out.
Yeah, I've been listening to Fear and Saturday Night consistently since it came out so that might skew my rankings. Additionally, FASN followed the indefensible Tomorrowland whereas Something More Than Free is following up Southeastern. So one guy is following up his worst record to date while another is following up his masterpiece.
DBT on friday outside of Chesapeake Arena downtown OKC. they go on at 5:30 and they're one of the first bands to play in this festival and I bet no one is there yet, should be pretty awesome
Pretty fantastic stuff: http://grantland.com/hollywood-pros...-songs-with-guest-commentary-by-jason-isbell/
Lookout Mountain Marry Me Goode Field Road (new version) a ghost to most everybody needs love where the devil dont stay grand canyon not the setlist i was expecting lookout mountain was the shit though. Patterson repeatedly threw a towel at his guitar strings during the outro of Grand Canyon
Was watching an interview with Taylor Goldsmith yesterday and the interviewer brought up All Your Favorite Bands being recorded in Nashville with Dave Rawlings producing. Somehow the conversation turned to mainstream country and Goldsmith talked about how he doesn't pay attention to that world but that he's watched interviews where Isbell just tears people apart and tells it like it is. It was very cool seeing one of my favorite musicians talk about another one of my favorites.
Not DBT/Isbell, but American Aquarium did a Back Porch Session for Garden and Gun. http://gardenandgun.com/media/back-porch-session-american-aquarium
Two thoughts: 1) Isbell doesn't play The Day John Henry Died enough live. He also doesn't play Easy on Yourself or Daylight but I can imagine that was a tough record for him to make so he doesn't rehash those. Plus, while they're good songs, the rest of his DBT stuff is better. 2) DBT needs to put Girls Who Smoke on an album
Best couplet of the album so far: These 5A bastards run a shallow cross It's a boy's last dream and a man's first loss
http://www.npr.org/2015/07/08/42058...npr&utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed stream the entire album
Had me in tears the first time I heard it, as I was actually in the hospital with my dad at the time. Best song on the album for me.

Nice. I have a nice little slate of shows coming up as well. Jason Isbell at Basilica Block Party in Minneapolis on Saturday preceded by Jenny Lewis and followed by Wilco to the stage. Grace Potter next Sunday at Blue Stem outdoor theatre in Moorhead, MN. Sept 6 is Sturgill Simpson with Merle Haggard and Kris Kristofferson, also at Blue Stem in Moorhead.
Shit, I'm jealous. I've just got Sturgill then and Lord Huron in two weeks, which I'm way too excited for.
I have a UND Alumni golf outing the day before in Detroit Lakes, MN and a friend has graciously given me and a couple buddies run of his "cabin" and toys for the weekend so I will be out of town.
Isbell is playing 4 nights at the Ryman in October. 2 night at the Charleston Music Hall in October. Arkadin

I've seen a bunch of people who I know don't listen to DBT talking about Patterson's NYT article. Pretty cool
Another good interview with Jason here: http://www.oxfordamerican.org/item/629-jason-isbell-ongoing-moment
Saw it. Isbell's set was all of Southeastern and maybe one other which was somewhat disappointing. Was hoping for more. Still a great show though.
Isbell was fantastic at Basilica Block Party on Saturday! Jenny Lewis was good as well and Wilco was great as expected. Woody Harrelson was walking around checking it all out. Literally almost ran into him less than a minute after I walked in. I was checking the posted map to see which stage I wanted to go to and turned around and I was like "Hey, Woody Harrelson!, big fan"...he laughs and says thanks and kept walking.
I still think Tomorrowland isnt as bad people make it out to be. I mean its definitely not great but I think the second half of the album has a couple of gems.
I bought the actual CD from Amazon for 8 bucks the other day. I like my favorite artists to have tangible proof that I'm buying their shit, albeit at a discounted rate.
Agreed. Was going to amazon to purchase it actually but saw the prime music logo. Still think I will purchase it but it was a neat discovery just now.
