if they ever co-headline a show near me I am not sure what the ticket price would have to be for me not to go
Agreed, but it's not too often two huge acts are playing at the same venue, unless it's a festival. I need to see Wilco live.
I saw them for the first time in like 2006 at the tall stacks festival in Cincy. I was always kind of a fan up until then, but after seeing them live they became one of my favorite bands. I've seen them 4 times since. I cannot recommend seeing them enough
I've been a fan for a while, but just went back through summerteeth and being there and they are such good albums. Impossible, Germany is one of my favorite songs of all time too.
BJ Barham's (of American Aquarium) solo record is out next Friday and streaming now at Noisey. It's quite good. http://noisey.vice.com/blog/bj-barham-american-aquarium-solo-rockingham
He's playing here at a small bar here in Tallhassee the 24th. Wish I could be in Raleigh for his opening show with David Ramirez playing as well.
He's in Charleston next Sunday the day after the album release show. Thinking about sliding down there for that.
Also 2 days after that, Radio Birds are at the same bar. Wish John Moreland would have stopped here cause he's playing St Augustine, Orlando and Gainseville at the beginning of September
I came home from work late last night and my wife was blaring the Isbell live album and signing along to TVA at the top of her lungs. I've never been so proud.
Damn, didn't realize Matt DeFilippis had resigned as their sound engineer and tour manager. He had their live sound mix down to a T. Tough loss.
The run they had between Being There and A Ghost is Born is one of the great stretches of albums by any American rock band. I've seen them several times but the highlight was in Gainesville, FL on the YHF tour. Maybe 1,000 people total in the venue. Amazing. Would highly recommend Kicking Television if you haven't checked it out.
Dawes has a new album coming out next month. Its very different from what they've normally done. but I like it
Dawes lost me a while ago and this song confirms why - hard to imagine a more desperate grasp for the mainstream. You can't deny their talent but this shit is pretty much unlistenable IMO.
Here's DBT's new album American Band for your Labor Day enjoyment. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/yx5gc4jx5wmpbfo/AADaQIqc_i-oFpBo6yof7sfwa?dl=0
Isbell is playing a free show here tomorrow night. It's a sit down, no alcohol type deal at a local auditorium. I'm fairly positive no one out here know's him, and the event on Facebook has a whopping 5 people attending. In other words, I'm basically going to have a free near private Jason Isbell concert
Gonna see Isbell, lucero on Friday, then McMurtry and Robert earl keen on Saturday this weekend. Can't beat that.
Enjoy. We had one of those in 2005 at some bar in Augusta, except we had some shots with isbell before the show.
Got tickets for sale at face value for Jason Isbell/Josh Ritter in Birmingham at the historic Alabama Theater on Friday September 23. PM me if you're interested.
I wholeheartedly disagree. Artists like Dawes/DBT/Isbell have to release lesser songs as singles to at least attempt to gain a larger audience. It shouldn't matter to us because we're following them for the full albums anyway. Ex) This Fucking Job is the worst song on The Big To-Do and Something More Than Free is one of the weaker songs on SMTF. After listening to We're All Gonna Die, I think it's at least on par with All Your Favorite Bands (another example of the lead/only single being one of the weaker songs on the album).
After Listening to We're All Gonna Die I think Taylor was just really fucked up through the entire writing and production process of this album
New John Moreland Spotify sessions out today. Also new Gary Clark Jr single for that Deepwater Horizon movie. Also, SC new Whiskey Meyers album is bad. Real bad.
Let me know what you think. But with songs titled "Lightning Bugs and Rain", "Deep Down in the South" and "Trailer We Call Home" I wasn't expecting to be blown away. But yeah, it reminded me of Blackberry Smoke a lot...
Going to see Isbell at Red Rocks next Wednesday. Anyone else going? Would love to meet with some TMBers.
Why you gotta do this, duval? This Fucking Job is bottom 4 of BTD and that includes two Shonna songs (neither are really that bad IMO). Point being: lead singles, which these bands, are never based on the quality of the song.
Was at the Jason Isbell concert in Salt Lake City last night. Was an outdoor venue and chilly as hell. A dynamic performer!
I thought Something More than Free was one of the better songs on that album Also I think 24 Frames was the lead single. Which I also like quite a bit.
