Thought I would do a journal of my read through ADWD since I haven't done one for the first 4. I started reading GoT in April, so I'll try to update the thread daily as I go along. Prologue - two of my favorite non-Tyrion elements to ASOIAF are 1) Wargs/skinchangers and 2) the Wights... So not sure this chapter could be any better unless Tyrion floated by on a dragon fucking a whore and yelled insults at the characters below. This Varamyr character sounds incredibly interesting, but I'm still confused about his purpose. I mean, could he be "Coldhands"? I don't think so since it doesn't make any sense in terms of the timing of Sam's escape and the wildlings attacking the wall, but more than once grrm alludes to cold, stone hands in this prologue. WE SHALL SEE... Tyrion - Tyrion returns after being absent from aFfC? Turns up in Pentos with the fat fuck from aGoT?? Third head of the dragon, you say??? I just don't see this going down, I mean Tyrion rarely let's people Use him as a pawn. And Danys is fucking insane, so I'm not sure she'll mesh well with the Imp... But Tyrion has had a history of marrying 16 year old girls, so maybe he's due for another. Bart Scott'ing (can't wait) to see what transpires between two of the shows most dynamic characters. Now if only Tyrion could be a warg who controls a zombie dragon we could just end the series immediately. Danys - pretty boring chapter updating us about her new country and Dragons are now murdering children
I started AGOT in April also. I'm about 20 chapters ahead of you in ADWD, so I'll be following this thread for sure.
Jon- Snow as a warg, I can't remember if this is new or if he's done this before? Continue to enjoy Jon's chapters, but continue to hate Stannis with a flaming passion. Speaking of characters I want to see killed: The Red woman. Can't stand her or Stannis and hope they both get Murked by some White One beyond the wall. Despite being said by the redhead, the "You know nothing, Jon Snow" line always gets a like from me. PREDICTION TIME: Stannis et al go over the wall to attack whatever undead demon lord is waiting for them, and they all get mauled because their fire god is a false god and the Valyrian steel/Dragon fire is the true fire needed to destroy whatever undead evil lies North. Raisin Bran - it only took me a couple of books, but it literally just clicked in my head that the "three-eyed crow" they are looking for is a Current or former Black Brother who can Warg. Duh me. For some reason I literally thought it was a 3 eyed bird. Fuck I'm stupid. Anyways obviously Coldhands was a dead guy, but WTF is this "Your Monster" bullshit? Guess we'll have to see. Tyrion - still not sure what to think of an Imp-Dragon lady combo. Fat guy eats, Dwarf drinks, otherwise boring chapter.
Martell chapter: My first thought when they said House Martell was trying to join with Danys was the South Park ski instructor meme: If you try to fuck a dragon You're gonna have a bad time. Interesting to see how this plays out. Clearly Danys needs Westeros allies to reclaim her throne, but Martells? Kinda weak house now that the Red Viper is dead IMO. Still don't see the Lannister connection panning out either. Who does that leave, the Greyjoys? The undead reanimate corpse of Robb Stark? Idk, maybe this Martell/Targaryen pairing has promise.
