I'm aware of that. Lot of those are backdoor top 10s where he's way back going into the final round then puts up a low score on Sunday to finish high. What I'm saying is it feels like he's not in contention as much as he used to be.
Schwartzel just switched sponsors, including clubs, the week of a major. Bold strategy. Charl Schwartzel signs with PXG By David Dusek 3 hours ago Charl Schwartzel, the 2011 Masters champion, signed an endorsement deal with Parsons Xtreme Golf and plans to use several PXG clubs at this week’s British Open at Royal Troon in Scotland. Schwartzel was seen this week wearing FootJoy shoes and a British Open hat similar to those sold in the merchandise tents. A PXG representative confirmed that starting today Schwartzel will wear a PXG hat and have PXG insignia on his golf bag. PXG said Schwartzel will use an 0811X Prototype Driver, 0311 3- and 5-irons, 0311T 6-PW and an 0311T 54-degree wedge. Other PXG staff players, including British Open defending champion Zach Johnson, switched into drivers and irons quickly, then added more clubs over the following weeks, and it appears Schwartzel will do the same. In a release, PXG founder Bob Parsons said, “Not only is Charl a champion, he is a stand-up guy. The kind of guy we want on our team. I couldn’t be more proud to have such an accomplished player join the team of professionals representing PXG.” A representative from PXG also told Golfweek that Schwartzel is likely to use a Callaway 3-wood, Ping putter and has been testing both the Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x balls. Schwartzel is No. 21 in the Official World Golf Ranking. It’s not unusual for highly ranked players to switch from one manufacturer to another, but it is highly unusual for one to change immediately before a major event.
Well McIllroy just decided to shit on the event from a great height. What a selfish tosser. Fuck it if you personally don't want to go, but talking shit about it being there overall is terribly uncouth.
Yep. I still like Rory overall but he just needs to shut up about it if he isn't going to play. Plus.......... Denis Hurley @Denis_Hurley No problem with Rory McIlroy not playing in the Olympics but comments today totally contradict those of 2014 pic.twitter.com/PMcpYTw8Dh
Yikes. I penciled him in as my Thurs starter. BRB, pulling him out of my lineup for the rest of the year.
If Nike had ended up getting the Ireland Olympics contract with Nike he wouldn't be so "refreshingly honest" as I hear people are trumpeting him for. It's a selfish comment which undermines people in golf who do care. He's always been an asshole but most golfers are tbf.
meh, I like when athletes speak their mind. have no problem with what Rory said. The schedule is rigoddamndiculous and add in the health concerns and the safety concerns...pulling out of playing in Rio is absolutely the right move imo.
Just picked up a brand new R15 3 wood on eBay for $80. Very surprised it went for that low since they're still retail at $150, but hey I'll take it.
No problem with the guy dropping out - saying golf at the Olympics "doesn't matter" so explicitly is needlessly taking a dump at all of those in golf who do care. As for speaking his mind...ha...he just doesn't have money on the table riding on it.
Meant to ask a week ago but I forgot but I got an email saying I got selected for Wednesday practice round at the masters. Does that include the par 3 does anyone know?
Thanks. Also realized when I paid I got 4 tickets instead of 2. I already told my wife I was taking my best friend.
Do you also have a rangefinder? Ive used both GolfShot and Golflogix and if you don't have a rangefinder id use Golfshot, if you do Id use GolfLogix. I appreciate the virtual view on golflogix that I can verify with the rangefinder for some reason. But if I were just using an app, having the satellite view would be better. Fwiw, Ive verified both with a Leopold rf and they're as accurate as you need.
Yeah I bought mine last year....previously I had trouble hitting a 3-Wood....now it has become my most consistent club in the bag.
Mine is 2 years old but it is my favorite club in the bag, I hit it off the tee and it has really helped my game. I sucked with my driver but I've shaved strokes because I hit my 3 wood nearly as far and it actually goes straight. I let my dad borrow it for a round and he bought one the next day. For 60 bucks you honestly can't go wrong. Adams Super LS fairway. http://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/ad...BdcL_O3vZ7_i9Aey1M0PYVsxQxMuMJC536RoC_unw_wcB edit- looks like they might have sold out of right handed. I always buy stuff from the previous year, basically the same technology for half the price.
I agree that GolfShot is great. Granted, I'm not sure how good the free version is, but the pay version ($30/year) is really good. Every time I check the distances with my buddies who have rangefinders, it's extremely accurate. The thing I like most about it, though, is being able to track my shots and also track a lot of stats like putts, GIR, fairways hit, etc, with relative ease. The pay version gives you a satellite view of each hole, let's you preview the hole from a birds-eye-view, and gives you distances to every major landmark. You can also manually set the cursor anywhere on the satellite view to see how far it is to any point on the hole, which is great for getting good layup distances. I think the free version just gives you distance to the middle of the green, and I'm not sure how much it lets you track as far as stats and clubs are concerned.
My Callaway GBB 3W is really easy to hit. Should be a real game changer for me. I'm picking up my Apex 3H today. If I hit it like I did in my fitting, I bet I will use that club more than any other outside of my wedges/putter.
Give me fall/spring weather and I think they would be much more enjoyable here. Just too damn hot to ride around on those for 18 holes right now. Its pretty flat here but I think courses with more hills and what not would add to the experience. Once you get going on grass they are much easier to maneuver than on pavement. They are also unbelievably sturdy, you'll never come close to flipping one over.
I was a kid the last time I walked a golf course. I just read Harvey Penick's little red book and he makes me feel guilty as shit about riding.
Have a guy in our golf group who's 84, walks every round. He's got me by 55 years and it embarrassing everytime I ride. Has shot his age over 1000 times, applied for the Guinness record but some guy has over 2k. To add he plays 5 days a week. It's truly something to behold.
I'll be the first to admit I don't have great coordination on things like this. The one guy in our group that has done a lot of board sports put us to shame. It was impressive to watch him maneuver it around. I wish I had worn spikeless shoes or even just tennis shoes. I'd say if I really got the hang of it I'd love it. I could really see it being fun teeing off late in the day as a single and just fucking around. We were a four ball today, one thing I kept doing was driving straight to my ball not realizing I was in between members of my group and the hole, doesn't really happen when driving in carts with a playing partner. One nice thing is driving up to the fringe. We were at Four Seasons and the marshals kept coming by and I thought they were gonna yell at where we were driving but instead they just wanted to say it looks like a lot of fun and ask if we were enjoying it. Experience may vary at other clubs obviously. Not sure if it sped up play, we finished in 3:30 as the first group off. Had a couple other single digit handicappers and a guy who can break 90 along with me.
Course I'm at this week is currently having a scramble with 8 people on each team. That sounds miserable
Ughhh that would be awful. Like 10 minutes between shots for each person. I've never heard of such a thing. 4 man is more than needed in a scramble imo. 2 or 3 man is the way to go.
