I've always assumed it's like using a median instead of an average; weeding out the extreme values to get a more steady baseline. Never thought to actually research it. We ~20 handicappers don't fret about it too much.
The only thing I can figure is they expect bogeys from a single digit but not a lot. They don't expect huge numbers from that caliber of player. I guess in your scenario, the two ways to get to +4 are different in that one golfer had two pars while the other didn't, and it's trying to find a number that you play to your best potential. Other than that, I got nothing.
It always gave me the option. Probably only required it for tournament play, but I always did it by hole cause it kept interesting stats.
Huh. The only 3 scoring options the GHIN app (which is how I enter my scores) gives me is Home, Away, and Tournament. The only of those three options that lets me enter hole by hole is Tournament. I'm fine with that though. I don't want to enter every single score on every single hole for every round I play anyway.
I have the same app. It's the one they offer, but it doesn't operate quite the same as the full website does.
I've played Cassique and it was phenomenal. Heard great things about Yeaman's Hall. Thought about trying to pull strings to play the Ocean Course
My clubs came in today! Very happy with the condition they're in. Only minor scuffs and scratches that aren't even that noticable unless you look closely. TM Jetspeed Driver TM Rocketballz 3W TM Speedblade 4-AW Carlton 52, 56, 60 Ping Zing Putter Caddie Jake
What loft? My old Nike was 9.5 and I wanted a little more height on my drives, so I went with 10.5 on the TM.
Remember reading a blog post about a handy way to calculate your handicap: First, calculate these things: 1. Your average score over the last 5+ rounds (realistically, you can't get a handicap until you have at least 5 rounds to use) 2. The average rating of the courses played over those rounds 3. The average slope of the courses played over those rounds You take your average score and subtract the average rating. Then, you multiply that number by 113. Divide the new number by the average slope. Now multiply the final number by 0.96. That's your handicap. For example, let's say your average score has been a 90, and the average rating is 71.5, while the average slope has been 130. 90 - 71.5 = 18.5 * 113 = 2090.5 / 130 = 16.08 * 0.96 = 15.4 ---> Your handicap is 15.4.
Also, for Equitable Stroke Control, you have to use your "course handicap" to know how many strokes to count, not your actual handicap. Take your handicap, multiply it by the slope rating of the course you're playing, and divide by 113 to get your course handicap. Then, use this table: Course HandicapMaximum Number 9 or lessDouble Bogey 10-197 20-298 30-399 40 and above10
I'm afraid if I upload a pic of my clubs from my phone, it'll be huge. But I picked them up and they are sexy as hell.
Yeah, I'll probably just hit the 50 in most situations. I already had the wedges. I'm going to the range tonight to hit all my new clubs, and I'll see which I prefer
Any of ya'll read this book or familiar with John Redman's methods? I'm about half way finished with it. He preaches a "Natural Grip" and says he took Paul Azinger from Juco Player to PGA in 3 years...My granddad didn't seriously pick up golf until retirement and his low round ever was a 72, he swore by this book. Assuming he's referring to this swing.... Ordering this book today and I'm pretty pumped about it... What's your swing bible?
Yeah, Cassique is outstanding. Might be my favorite course, along with Long Cove, in the state. Yeaman's Hall is awesome, partly because it's like going back in time to play golf.
Hogan's book is how I learned golf since I picked up the game after I graduated college. I'm not always able to execute, but it does such a great job of explaining the swing mechanics.
split grip questionable contact off the toe shoddy weight transfer Were you even trying Jigga ? Bonus points for the wind up grunt noise though..effort counts for something here.
Suggestions for what I'm told is a timing issue? I've gone from swinging mostly all upper body (thanks, undrtow) to actually starting my downswing with my left hip. My hips are apparently faster than my downswing and I'm slicing the shit out of the ball, even more so than when I wasn't using my lower body. Halp.
