It depends. If you're looking for upscale, go to Halls Chophouse or Rick Erwins. You can't really go wrong with anything on the West End, except On the Rocks. Liberty is fun if there is a Drive game, AA team for Boston. If you're looking for music, check out Smiley's but get there early because it gets packed on the weekends. Sta away from the East end, it has become really trashy.
Thank you all for the suggestions. I’ll have three 13 year olds and a 10 year old with us, so does that change your thinking? We would be a party of 8.
Hall's is a banger and to me it's less stuffy than a more traditional steakhouse because of the open environment and natural lighting, but it is still a proper steakhouse.
Trappe Door is nice for a group. It's a pub but I think kids are fine there? And it's underground and funky so the tweens will think it's cool. Good food and beers too.
Also, Up on the Roof is cool, which is basically were you are staying, its on top of the Embassy. There is your normal Mellow Mushrom, and if you're a hipster, there is a restraunt called Vello Fellow. That's all I got. Good Meixican, too. Viva Villa.
I’m not a fan of Halls. For a table of two you don’t need three or four servers hovering over you while trying to enjoy your meal. They do have great drinks. I’ve liked Urban Wren lately but neither of those are really the best for kids. If you like seafood and the weather is ok Rick Erwins seafood place (think it’s Nantucket or something but I’m not awake yet) has a nice area to sit outside the kids can run around and raise hell while you watch. There’s a lot of places I’d easily pick over Halls. It just is the current hyped place and has been for a while
Just made it to Greenville. Staying at the Westin Poinsette. First impression is that this downtown area is awesome. Heading to Trappe Door in about an hour for a drink, then Sassafras for dinner. not sure what I’ll do with my wife and daughter tomorrow during the day (rent bikes?), but then have a group dinner with 12+ at Up on the Roof tomorrow night. Thanks for all the recs.
Alright, downtown I give an A+. Just a cool area, we had a great time walking around. Sassafras, I really wanted to like. But best I can do is a C+. Fried pickles were awesome. And so was the people watching. But I ordered the shrimp and grits. The grits were like extremely runny mashed potatoes. Shrimp overcooked and gravy bland. Wife got fish over pasta, and the fish appeared to have been cooked in the microwave at 99 minutes and 99 seconds. Red wine was served at 90+ degrees. Room temp would have been fine. but with all that, we still loved the night. This is a cool little city, and we are really looking forward to tomorrow here.
Go try Liberty's Taproom, if you are going to be here tomorrow. It's basically upscale bar food, but they have a bar outside and it's right outside the baseball stadium. I'm not sure how old your daughter is, however, I'm sure she would like it better than Sassafrass. Which I always thought was a little overrated.
We like taking the kids to Gather too since there are so many options and room for them to roam, but ours are 2 and 6.
Had Jianna for lunch and Up on the Roof for dinner yesterday. Both were great. Did Lemoncello for lunch today, and we are about to head to the airport to get back to Dallas. Altogether, great weekend getaway, and I am already looking forward to exploring next year when we come back for camp drop off. - A really cool city/downtown.

I saw a meme about this a few times on FB. Thank you for bringing me the origin story. Platinum Plus in Cola burned to the ground. Probably a better reuse
