Group of 5 fans (AAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, Sun Belt) get ITT. I know there are a good number of UCF fans on here along with Southern Miss and Georgia Southern fans. Also some fans of Tulsa, ECU, Boise, UTEP, Marshall, etc. Let's see if we can get this thread active.
UCF lost at home to Furman and is 0fer on the season. WTF My Golden Eagles got a good road win against the fighting The42Yardstick s.
LONG way to go, but going to be interesting to see if an undefeated Toledo gets the access bowl over the AAC champ or a 1 loss Boise.
Big basketball school. Been to 22 NCAAs, including a Final 4 in the 70s. They usually win the WAC basketball title (Bakersfield beat them at the buzzer this year), it's just that their football is terrible.
I think it comes down to New Mexico blocking them. Honestly there are probably a lot of G5 programs that should consider dropping down. Eastern Michigan was considering it. UMass should, but can't, in order to justify the expensive stadium upgrades. They thought initially that they'd be able to get into the AAC, but that isn't happening.
the c-usa is just a shell of its former self and its saddening. I am a big UAB hoops supporter and although Coach Haase made our program relevant again, its almost impossible to drum up interest from the city because once we hit the conference schedule we don't play anybody worth watching. Bartow used to be the best basketball environment in the state of Alabama when Louisville, Marquette, Cincinnati, or MEMPHIS came to town. Ten years later the biggest conference games are against La Tech and WKU. Sucks
I've been an advocate of creating some southern based league taking the best of CUSA and the Sun Belt. Could be like this: EAST UAB WKU Marshall MTSU Georgia Southern WEST Southern Miss LaTech ULL Rice Arky State
Always held out hope that a crazy conference realignment scenario would leave a spot open for UAB in the new Big East
AAC? There was a rumor that our AD was at their conference tournament in Orlando. We've always been left out due to our tiny TV market but it seems like we might have a chance if the Big 12 takes Cincy or UCONN.
Let's go Mountain West Steve Fischer back for next year. New Mexico facing an audit into $50,000 in unreconciled ATM withdrawals by a MBB staff member. Will be interesting to see what that turns up
Would the Big 12 be able to accommodate the no Sunday competition requirement for BYU? They never should have left the MWC. I remember seeing the below tidbit after Mendenhall bailed "The lack of conference affiliation impacted the program’s national standing: BYU was ranked in the final Amway Coaches Poll four times in its final five seasons in the Mountain West Conference, but just once in its five years as a Football Bowl Subdivision independent." When they left the MWC most schools adopted a scheduling philosophy that involved not involving BYU in any future plans. Then Utah St joined and ruined all that
would big12 want to deal with another school with their own network? If they ever have plans of creating a Big12 network, bringing in another program with their own network would be hard sell I would think
I really didn't think the Sunday thing would be a huge deal with the Big 12. But I haven't been paying close attention to realignment recently. I know the NCAA has said BYU will be allowed to not play on Sunday if they make a baseball regional (which would kinda fuck up the schedule for whoever is hosting that).
I used to party so hard there. My buddy at work had just graduated. We'd go down for the weekend and stay with his friend. I was known as "that old dude with the drugs."
There is no alcohol allowed on campus. Most places would look the other way as long as people aren't being dicks. But Boise police are huge faggots and will walk around sniffing cups.
Conference USA revenue to dip from $15.4 million to $2.8 million. So league payouts to each school will go from $1.1 million to $200,000 Damnnn
Evidently, adding a bunch of schools in huge markets that no one gives a shit about (i.e. UTSA, FAU, Charlotte), didn't help the TV deal.
so those schools probably got more money from playing one game at a P5 school than they did from TV revenue for the whole season
I read where Wyoming basketball is probably gonna start playing guarantee games to help the rest of the department out with the state requiring all state entities to cut budgets by 8% That's pretty sweet they didn't have to do that the past few years
How much do those usually pay in basketball? I know SWAC schools play a handful of guarantee games each year.
Some G5 schools in large metro areas do carry their market. I'd say Memphis does (or at least their basketball does). From what I understand, UCF is the #1 team in Orlando or is a very close #2. But yeah, adding schools like Charlotte and UTSA over Georgia Southern and Texas State is dumb.
