I don't think it happens. I don't think wicked or Book of Mormon ever got DVDs and they were pretty damn big
LMM has said it will eventually be recorded, but that it won't happen for a while. He's adamant that it's basically another art form and that a lot would be missed by taking it out of the theater.
I think you're right on BoM but pretty sure Wicked came out on DVD and there is going to be a movie adaptation this year.
It's been so frustrating trying to convince my friends and family to listen to the entire cast album. Even putting my neck out there and telling them it's every bit as brilliant as The Wire or Breaking Bad isn't making them budge. You'll Be Back might be my favorite song ever. It's so much like a Lennon/McCartney collaboration. I can even picture the two of them debating whether Paul's insistence of the "Da Da Da's" would ruin the song.
I think the King George songs are my second faves behind Guns and Ships. "When push comes to shove, I will send a fully armed battalion to show my love"
"I Know Him" always makes me want to laugh at Paul Giamatti. There's a lot of The Joker from the Dark Knight in King George but not too much that it's obvious to the average dullard.
Anyways, speaking of Book of Mormon I think this may be the first time I'll be tuning into (recording) the Tonys since Book of Mormon debuted 5 years ago. Hamilton's going to win double digit Tonys, most likely. Should also be some good showdowns (LMM vs Leslie Odom, Christopher Jackson vs. Daveed Diggs vs. Jonathan Groff).
I knew they were talking about making a movie out of wicked, but I'll have to look into a stage recording. I've always wanted to see it, but never want to spend the money when it comes through Atlanta. I saw BoM on Broadway when I was in nyc last year and it was hilarious
A DVD recording? GMAB this isn't cats. Plays are meant to be seen on stage and LMN is a true playwright. No way in hell he lets a DVD recording come out, or at least not anytime soon. Srsly why would you even want to watch that? It's like asking a friend to play a CD for you over the phone, just a horrible idea that changes the experience and corrupts the product.
It just dawned on me that we are just three people dying away from having a new King George. You'll be Back indeed.
I say we just get Kramer's guy to take a video camera and make us a bootleg. We'll have to invest maybe a couple grand to get him a ticket but think of the profits!!!
I would watch it because the chances of me getting a ticket to see it are slim. Especially with the orig cast. Id watch it with the full understanding it's nothing close to the experience of seeing it live.
It's coming to Chicago in September. I'll try to go, but Im not counting on it. I know my company will get some tickets, but I probably have a better chance to get them on my own
Got drunk and almost bought tickets for 2K in New York on a random Tuesday. I don't think I would have really been all that mad about it. Hamilton about to win all the awards. You think they perform "my shot" or flip the script and do something like "non-stop"? Either way, I'm excited.
i'm trying to figure out what my budget for tickets is i'll be in the city in a couple of weeks and i have two free nights. is $800 reasonable? ugh.
I don't live in NYC. There's basically zero chance I get to see the show before LMN leaves it. I'd rather get 70% of the experience than 0% of the experience. And yes, if the only way I could ever listen to Me Against the World was through a telephone, I'd do that over not listening at all.
Everytime I listen to the soundtrack I vschange my mind about my favorite song. Right hand man is dope, and I really like wait for it as well
I'd just rather enjoy the soundtrack and see the roadshow than watch a DVD of a Broadway play. Have you ever watched a play on tape? It's horrible.
I may or may not have video of all the King George songs from someone sitting in a balcony seat that is very adept at being discreet.
Surprised it took that long for Right Hand Man to be named. Best song on the soundtrack, IMO. Yorktown is also outstanding. Shit, the whole thing is pretty damn awesome for being a Hip Hop Musical, two genres that I don't really get into. What a fucking genius LMM is.
No, nor have I ever cared too. Hell If 2 years ago you told me I'd be listening to a musical soundtrack as much as anything else on my iphone, I'd laugh right in your face. However Ive never been a fan of broadway plays like I am w Hamilton. IF it's shot like this, I think film version would be ok
Srsly what a genius. We are posting bootleg videos of a Broadway musical on a sports message board. #transcendence.
Do you need to know the plot of the play to enjoy the music? I don't know a thing about it besides it having Alexander Hamilton. Is it like a bio musical?
I told my brother he's got maybe a day before these disappear so if he doesn't watch it then I think I'm giving up with him.
In these bootleg youtube videos, when King George sings "Now you're making me mad" he is looking right into the camera. Bet it scared the shit out of whoever recorded it.
Jonathan Groff is awesome. He was in Spring Awakening too, which won Best Musical about a decade ago.
So who will win the Tony for best supporting actor? Aaron Burr, Sir or Lafayette/Jefferson. I'd bet on Lafayette/Jefferson.
Aaron Burr (Leslie Odom) is nominated for lead actor with LMM. There are 3 nominations for supporting. Daveed Diggs (Lafayette/Jefferson), Christopher Jackson (Washington), and Jonathan Groff (King George).
That's both nice and not so nice for Leslie Odom. Lead is obviously better but he would have been way likelier to win for supporting. Three songs and practically no choreography for Groff and still getting nominated is a pretty sweet gig.
i can get two tickets for $1800 for the front row of the mezz section the night of the 16th who is in with me
Amex Platinum cardholders have access from today-sunday to a presale for 1/31/17-5/31/17 shows... bought 4 tix this morning, $200ea
Had heard of the musical but hadn't listened to any of it until I came upon this thread. Been listening to the soundtrack all day at work, love it so far.
