So this guy, like 100000 other people, is rumored to be cast for the second season. Former doctor who.
That is not how I would picture Stannis, but I don't read descriptions that carefully. I would think he would be broader and bigger. I would guess one of these 3... Jaqen H'ghar Mance Rayder Qhorin Halfhand
I don't think so. That said, he may not be prominent until book 3, so who even knows if he would be cast for next year. Here is a description and drawing... He is of middling height, slender, and sharp-faced with brown eyes and long brown hair gone mostly to gray.
So, Im about 250 pages into Book 1 and I am curious why they portrayed Renly in the show like they did. In the book he is a big dude with long hair, a knight and supposedly very good looking. In the show he is a small, dainty fag who hasnt done anything in battle. I wonder why they decided to change his character?
Because if they got an actor who fit Renly's book description then they would also have to change other actors such as Robert. I know people complained about the guy playing Robert but I loved Mark Addy as Robert. I don't have too much of a problem with the guy who plays Renly but I get what you're saying. And if they didn't cast blackfish in season 1 because of budget, I think there's a good chance we don't see Mance.
such is the problem casting characters who are described as super hero/larger than life men or insanely beautiful women. There just aren't that many actors who fit the physical description and those who do who can actually act worth a flip are probably too expensive for a production like this.
Holy Shit Mark Strong and Ben Kingsley? Is Ridley Scott picking up season two? Maybe get Cameron to produce?
Same with me and Balon, I know they aren't going to actually hire them, same with Asha and Emmy Rossum
Considering Sean Bean is the most well known actor in the critical first season I doubt they go even B list on us with name actors. Dinkledge was neccesary but they've done well with unknown or little known actors so far and I'm guessing they keep going that route. Still would've liked Renly and Robert to be larger than they were
Yeah, that makes sense. I liked Addy as Robert too. Wouldnt want to sacrifice his acting ability for a taller character.
I also wonder if it is the type of show that with momentum is able to attract bigger actors. That said, I don't think it is necessary, and I would rather they spend less on actors and more on production as long as they can maintain the quality that they have had so far. In general, HBO seems to do well casting their shows with up and comers.
Yeah it's no surprise the biggest actors they got were playing characters who didn't last a whole season.
Big dudes are kinda like women in the fact that there aren't many that can act and the ones who can, get out of this pay range pretty quickly I imagine.
IMO they have and will continue to get good relatively unknown people that have starred in critically acclaimed tv shows such as the former Tudors actor who was just hired. Absolutely no reason to go big name.
Have you guys noticed how short Barristan Selmy is? Has to be the shortest on the show besides the half-man.
True but you can make guys look bigger than they are. Robert was supposed to be intimidatingly big and Renly huge but also loved. They got a guy that looked like he'd be scared to hold a sword.
Kind of my point. I didnt care so much that Renly wasnt a big dude but rather he looked like he would rather be holding a dick than a sword.
I swear that as I was looking up Vinnie Jones this dude crossed my mind for Kettleback but I passed because I don't know if he'd pull off the accent. I could actually see him playing someone like Rorge, Biter or even Qyborn at some point. Don't know why
Ok awesome well i'll just say this generality when it comes to characters in this series. Keep reading because your perception of them will definitely change. Not sure who and when because that depends on how you feel about each character. Only on book 2 and a lot has changed for me.
Yeah just something about him that always made me think of Osmund. Think he could pull off Small Paul too
Sounds good. Just from watching the show my perception of some of the characters changed from the beginning to the end i.e Sansa.
I'm halfway through book 2 but Spoiler I really enjoy the Greyjoy story arc, that will be fun to watch next season
