if you watch St. Anger as the creative side (James Hetfield) vs the business (Lars Ulrich) it's a lot more interesting idk some time ago i read that Lars Ulrich basically runs the business that is Metallica
I'm not the biggest Megadeth fan in the world, but Marty Friedman is easily one of my favorite 2 or 3 guitarists ever. His solo on "Symphony of Destruction" gives me goosebumps almost every time I hear it. His phrasing is unparalleled. "Hangar 18" is absolutely ridiculous too.
i usually mainboard at work so don't have avatars displayed. at home now and just wanted to complement you on your ...Like an Everflowing Stream avatar. we've discussed it before but i love that record.
That album along side "Into The Grave" is the reason I prefer Swedish Death over everything else, it formed so much of my death metal tastes.
Just discovered this band called Alkaloid, ex-Obscura guys. Really unique sound. Anyone who likes tech death, BTBAM, or Cynic will probably dig this. Some parts of it even remind me of Tool. Spoiler: Alkaloid - Carbon Phrases
The cover art of "The Brotherhood Of The Snake", the twelfth album from San Francisco Bay Area thrash metal veterans TESTAMENT, can be seen below. The CD will be released on October 28 via Nuclear Blast. The cover was once again created by renowned artist Eliran Kantor, who also handled the art for the TESTAMENT's last album, 2012's "Dark Roots Of Earth", and also worked with bands like HATEBREED, SOULFLY and KATAKLYSM in the past. "The Brotherhood Of The Snake" was recorded under the watchful eyes of producer Juan Urteaga (EXODUS, HEATHEN, MACHINE HEAD), guitarist Eric Peterson and singer Chuck Billy and was mixed and mastered by British metal producer Andy Sneap (ACCEPT, ARCH ENEMY, CRADLE OF FILTH, KREATOR, MACHINE HEAD, MEGADETH). Peterson told Kaaos TV about "The Brotherhood Of The Snake": "The only difference on this one is we're trying to be a little bit more organic, and getting away from Andy's perfection sound, and get more of a looser… you know, still keeping the slickness of it, but trying to get a little bit more raw. So it's kind of a hard way to describe it. But we don't want it too perfect. And I didn't record four guitars; I did two this time. So there's a lot more air going on with the rhythms and stuff like that." Asked whether the musical direction of TESTAMENT's new material is a throwback to the band's early albums or if it's more similar to the recent TESTAMENT records, Eric said: "More like the modern [TESTAMENT sound], but, you know, like I was saying earlier, having that more raw feeling. Of course, our influences have changed a lot. For me, I always get accused of listening to older stuff [and I am told that] I need to listen to more new stuff. But I always like to go back and listen to records from the '70s and the '80s. And I won't name the bands I listen to, but I listen to a lot of different stuff that has nothing to do with metal, because I hear things differently. I don't hear it, like… You know, like if I listen to [American blues rock guitarist] Joe Bonamassa or something, I'm not, like, 'Wow, I wanna sound like that.' I just kind of get ideas of key changes and the way he hits certain notes or whatever and apply it to what we're doing. And that's the same thing with anything." TESTAMENT will promote "The Brotherhood Of The Snake" by teaming up with AMON AMARTH for a European tour this fall. Read more athttp://www.blabbermouth.net/news/tes...01pr3fT7fMo.99
Also curious, been listening to a lot of Panopticon lately. I don't know if it's because I'm liberally using the "Discover" feature on Spotify, but I've been really pleased with a lot of the new heavy music that has been coming out 2015-16 so far. For the first time in a long while I'm pretty much exclusively listening to new(ish) releases.
Best band I've seen thus far. Aaron (the dude who writes and plays everything on records) was the best guitar player yet. The Krallice dudes shred, but in a more sterile, music major type way. Also the first band of the fest that had any sort of backdrop or production. It's been a very interesting weekend. Every single band has done their own setup, sold their own merch. No one has set everything up, walked off stage, came out for applause. They sound check, sound guy says you are good, they start playing. In the theater, between songs it gets pretty quiet and if you want you can basically have personal conversations with the stage. It's like a punk show at a VFW hall. All people have been cool and respectful. Only thing that has sucked is the heat. Nice thing there is that most of the theater is seats. So you can find a dark corner and chill for a bit. All seats sound and look good.
Last album (full length, haven't listened to the split yet) is my favorite. Less folk stuff. Which I like, but this feels like a better balance.
there's a new darkthrone song and it's cool https://soundcloud.com/heavytassen/01-tundra-leech-premiere
that song is offensively bland it's like the outtakes of the song That Was Just Your Life from Death Magnetic (which i actually liked )
it seems like the kind of shit that people who don't listen to metal but love deafheaven would listen to
Still sounds like Metallica trying to sound like Metallica but not quite pulling it off. James' vocal delivery and phrasing gets worse and worse it seems. An embarrassing song overall. Especially embarrassing seeing as most of their contemporaries have put out A+ releases this year. (Megadeth, Anthrax, Testament, Metal Church)
At least there is Skeletonwitch and Darkthrone on this page to stave of a total page failure. I'll post some of the recent shit I've been playing, let me know what you guys think.
I like it! I tried two or three times even dating back to the old thread to push Sulphur (debut album) and Black Fast (both albums) but all you motherfuckers ignored me.
I must have missed it - loving both rn. New Sulphur album might be my favorite record of 2016. 1SHOT been digging Skeletonwitch too.
The new Demon Incarnate MCD is fantastic, they signed to the best label going today (FDA Rekotz). They're a female fronted classic doom / 70's rock mix (Occult Rock).
