I told the roofer who coordinated the painters as well as the guy who owned the painting company when he came out to take a look at the house that I wanted the exact same color.
So i have down pointing ceiling speakers pre built into my place. I've been trying to figure out the best resolution to get them up and running but am open to alternatives. Would you suggest forgoing any of that and just going with the these two?
I'm currently in the process of sanding and restaining my staircase plus painting the risers and rail. Back breaking work. I don't think I'll ever do another project with sanding after I finish redoing my hardwood floors upstairs.
5 days in on my trial and inside is working well. Haven't seen any bugs, but I didn't necessarily have a bug problem before. Regarding the back porch, I did get bit by a mosquitos last night, but I will hold off judgment for another 7-10 days.
Tell me I didn't just get hosed. One of our last projects was replacing the carpet in the stairs to the finished basement. I have had so many other projects that this wasn't a priority for me. Well, it was for my wife. As soon as I left town for work, she hired a local carpet company to do it. $1000 for 13 stairs and a little 5'x5' room at the bottom of the stairs. I'm positive she only got quotes from this company and Lowes and my wife doesn't attempt to negotiate.
This weekend i get to rip the rest of our carpet in the house to repolish the hardwood underneath (old owners must have been idiots bc this stuff is beautiful).
how big of a pain of the ass is it to change out hinges on an interior door (i assume it'd be easy, just a few screws, but i have a feeling its not as easy as that)? will the holes be stripped out in the door frame? i just really hate fucking gold and would love to have like a brushed nickel or something other than gold.
On a 1-10 DIY scale it's like a 1. My wife has done some of ours by herself. Now replacing interior doors, that's a little different. That was one of my first projects I did on my house and funny enough I was "admiring" one of the doors I did last night. Had to take about a 1/2 off the width of the door to get it to fit properly. This was before I had a table saw so did it with a circular saw, most of them are pretty straight but a couple got a little wavy on me.
Very easy. I changed out every hinge in my house. Replaced every interior door too from flat to 6 panel. That was a pain in the ass.
Yes. Absolutely. I still have my living room wired for surround sound but after setting up the sound bar and wireless sub it was clear that was all I needed. I love it when I have guests over and they notice the end plates on the back wall of the living room and ask why I didn't do surround sound. I pull out my phone and crank up the sonos and make the house shake and its obvious why it wasn't necessary. The sound is LOUD and clear. When people ask to see my media room I play the opening scene from Drive because that car chase scene has a bit where the helicopters come from behind and the surround sound really makes you feel that but 99.9% of every sound in a movie, tv show, sports game, etc. is happening in front of you or to the side. Remarkably the sound bar is equally adept at encapsulated sounds coming from your left and right, I'm missing sounds that may be coming from behind but its such a rare occurrence and if I'm getting serious about a movie I'm going to my theater room anyways. Wire the living room for surround sound in case you change your mind but I feel confident the sound bar and wireless sub is enough for most.
Anyone have any experience removing textured ceilings? Half the rooms in the house are textured and wouldn't mind having a professional painter come and remove all that, but wondering how much that's going to cost me.
Power washed my wood fence yesterday, I want to stain it this weekend, preferably a light color. Any brands or colors you would recommend?
I have some local guy my builder buddy uses coming out early next week, but I'll get in touch if he falls through or I don't like him. I'm probably going to have more HVAC work in the near future.
http://www.howtobuycarpet.com/carpet_installation_cost.htm What I'm backing in to: Sq ft of carpet: Room 5x5 = 25 sq ft Stairs (assuming 7" risers, 10" run, 42" width) = 76 sq ft You're going to need a little more than that so lets call it 110 sq ft of carpet. The price range of carpet is very wide but I would call $4/sq ft about average and an average pad about $0.50/sq ft. So an average carpet and pad should be about $500. The website I linked discusses installation costs. Unless you have something on the stairs that makes the work challenging I would think $100-150 for install would be adequate. Were they removing carpet and disposing of it or any other work?
Make sure you have plenty of checks in your checkbook and maybe open a new credit card. Also, you need a nice indoor broom AND a push broom for the garage/driveway, a bucket, a gas can, a big ladder AND a smaller 2-3 step fold up ladder. Congrats!
Text from wife.... I'm done worrying about it. Maybe overpaid a couple hundo, but not worth arguing and now she's happy about the stairs. It just chaps my ass that she doesn't do research or negotiate. I would've shopped around for a deal on carpet/pad and then found some Terry on Craigslist to install it.
I'm at like day 4 of the bug/pest sonic repellents. Haven't seen anything inside, I didn't have a huge problem before hand other than those ladybugs. Outdoor I haven't spent much time on the patio so it's hard to tell.
A fantastic poster on this thread recommended ready seal, a penetrating stain, that I used for my fence (went with natural cedar) and deck (mahogany). I picked the colors based on recommendations on this thread, great advice...
It seems a little high but not terrible. What you paid is about what I would have expected to pay here but I had adjusted downward because the SE tends to be lower in labor costs. I'm pretty sure the runner we installed on our stairs (15 steps) cost us more than that if it makes you feel any better. When I was moving out of our condo we had HD install new carpet. They were running a deal for $37 install but there were a lot of limitations on it. Stairs are the type of thing that get charged extra for because they are a lot more work than a standard room.
Zack Zedalis is that a live oak in between the road and sidewalk (on mobile, can't tell for sure)? if so, that sucker gonna get big and wreck some concrete. not to overshadow the fact that I can wait to eat meat on your patio and drink beers, looks awesome.
My 2 cents but you should do that yourself. Lightly Spray water on the ceiling and then scrape it off. Fairly easy job. Edit: just saw your pic, that looks a little more involved
Man lechnerd is making me want to get sonos so badly, but damn Soundbar and Sub are $$$$. Right now only in an apartment, but moving to a new one and want to upgrade the sound on tv and have something for music. Might need to
Same. Really want to drop some cash to get a solid system, but I dont know if I could justify that kind of money. Kind of disappointed I didn't jump on the Vizio 5.1 soundbar during Prime Day. Think it was something like $250 off.
paint it pinkish gray, everyone will think you have a giant brain for a ceiling Can even go wild and mix in some dark browns, greenish blacks, etc. let them think it's dying
kentucky_dawg Do you have a 2nd floor or is it insulated attic above that ceiling? You could just cut it out and re-sheetrock. The insulation makes it much worse of a job.
Don't do this. Sheet rocking overhead fucking sucks and is a lot more work than just scraping. Best option (my go to for shit I don't wanna do myself) is go to Home Depot and hire some day workers (aka Mexicans).
Is it pressure treated? Let it dry out for a couple of months and then stain or at the very least seal it.
Yes. All you need to do is wait a month. If you live in the south that thing will start turning grey very fast. I recommend ready seal natural cedar. You can knock it out real quick with a cheap pump sprayer.
yeah the builder is putting it in and I would assume it's going to be standard pressure treated pine. I never stained / sealed my last fence after I put it in - and I probably should have. Is waiting until October enough time you think?
