One of the most fun weddings I've been to in quite a while, and Huntsville absolutely blew me away. I'm pretty sure I'm still drunk
The Picciniches lived directly behind me when I was growing up. Absolutely horrible. My dad went over to their house Saturday and said it was miserable. Toni was an awesome, awesome girl.
We ended up getting an even more reduced rate at the Embassy Suites due to the fire alarm going off twice during the weekend. I wasn't there when it happened Saturday afternoon, but when it went off Sunday morning around 4:30 or 5, I was in lala land.
Lone Goose, Humphrey's, Beer Exchange, then Taco Mama before leaving Sunday. Really wanted to hit up one of the breweries, but that didn't work out. I still feel awful btw.
I'm still so tired. Will be getting in bed around 8 tonight. Glad we could rep Huntsville well for Owsley - and I can concur that it was one of the best weddings I've ever been to. Herculean effort by Menelaus and his fam paid off.
If y'all haven't tried number one on this list y'all need too. http://www.zliving.com/wellness/travel/amazing-food-trucks-america-61902/
Ripped the top off Bike Night at the Furniture Factory Thursday night. Just kills me how my boys from high school still have the small town Madison mindset. "Watch out for Nick" "What, why? You serious, he still takes off his shirt and tries to act hard?!"
Blatant sarcasm. I also used the term this weekend referring to a baby party for good friends facetiously.
Adding to the list. The Bottle Downtown - Those grilled veal chops... Below the Radar - Great beer selection and good food. 1892 East - Great food in the 5 Points area. Blue Plate Cafe on Governors
I think BTR's food is subpar. Uh, yeah, I'd say The Bottle, the nicest restaurant in town, would be a good place to check out. Never been to 1892, but I'll check it out. Blueplate's mixed-berry pancakes are fantastic. Has anyone been to OTBX Taproom or whatever it's called? I heard it's pretty cool, but with limited seating, no food service, and not staying open past 10-11 I don't know how well it will do.
Food is more than fine for me at BTR. If I go there it is because I want good beer, decent tasting food is just a plus for me. But I agree, food was a lot better when they first opened than it is now. Try the Espresso Brisket at 1892. You won't be sorry. I love some Blue Plate meatloaf and those berry pancakes are really good. Have a buddy that is at OTBX everyday it seems. He really likes it, I haven't been yet.
Going to hit up Monaco Saturday night for Jurassic World, but can't decide on where I want to eat beforehand.
Out there? A couple weeks ago I went to whatever that Mexican place is called twice and got the fajitas once and the tacos once. Both were pretty good. I've only been there and Connors though so I can't speak to the other restaurants.
I liked it a lot. Seating is probably two dozen stools at most, but they also have a pretty extensive beer store on the other side. A lot of local flavor which I appreciate, but plenty of more well know craft breweries too. Very laid back. I'd love to go somewhere like that to watch EPL.
Cantina Laredo. Love Cantina but don't want to smell like a Mexican that has been working the fields all day when I show up to the movie. Connor's is always solid. Tried the new Italian restaurant over there the last time I went. Spent $115 on Chef Boyardee. Probably go with the safe bet in Connors.
Speaking of Bridge Street, Bar Louie's skanky hot waitress in tiny shorts game is on point. Haven't tried the food, just sat on the outside patio, which is nice and had a couple beers while my wife shopped. Just noticed a new pizza place, Pieology just opened up over there. Might give it a try. Also, BJ's Brewhouse and Restaurant is opening over there this Summer. Might be worth trying out if you are over that way.
We go to Bridge Street probably once a month because my wife's favorite stores are over there. That new Belk they built over there is fucking huge. I don't mind it. Nice and clean, and plenty of stuff to do, like watching the street performers.
The food at Bar Louie's is OK. Nothing amazing but you could do worse for a quick bite before the movie. Have y'all tried Texas de Brazil?
Haven't been to either personally but I've heard the service at Louie's is lacking. Nothing but good reviews from Texas de Brazil. I'm too lazy to drive out there, like colonel_forbin said, it's a trek for me.
When I was there, they probably had at least 15-20 waitresses there but everybody seemed to have to wait for everything. I guess when you hire 18-22 year old girls because they are hot, your commitment to good service just goes right out the window.
Ha not really. The downtown area Florence area is ok- good places to eat and get a beer or two. Improved a lot in the last 5 years of so thanks to Billy Reid kind of leaving a revival of the area. Try out Odette it's pretty nice and has really good cocktails. Also the Marriott bar is nice and usually has some live music, but that isn't downtown. Def the nicest hotel in the area though if you're looking for a place to stay.
Cool article on the local beer scene. http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/06/the-craft-beer-guide-to-huntsville-alabama.html?a=1
Looks like there was a drowning at spring to summer at guntersville today. He was a real good friend. Shit sucks.
