a look back to the last European final played in Munich.

what a wonderfully diverse game this used to be. representation from Western, Northern, Eastern, and Southern Europe, while Central Europe led the pack with four clubs. the Malmo captain broke his toe training for the final (what a nightmare) so I don't think it was much of a game, just interesting to see what this competition looked like before the emergence of superclubs like Barcelona, who coincidentally used successes in the lower cups starting that same year to propel them to grand stage achievements in the 90's and foreseeable future.

in other news...UEFA being what they are ($$$ grubbing whores) has decided to change the name of FC Bayern's Allianz Arena to Fußball-Arena München for the CL Final because Allianz does not give UEFA sponsorship money. This is particularly curious because of the fact that the ß (double "s") they are using in our Arena's new name was taken out of the German language almost a decade ago. Leave it to UEFA...

I'd be enraged if I were Allianz or any other company that's paid millions of $$$ to put their names on these stadiums, then just to have UEFA or FIFA call it something else because they're not getting any cut of sponsorship money, especially something like the CL Final, that's worth a lot of money in advertising.
