Pushing my way through Shantaram. Im about 45% finished. Im enjoying it and it's really interesting so far. It's just so damn long. Im kind of getting anxious to get the plot moving. So far it's just a bunch of experiences and table setting. Waiting for shit to actually happen. It could also be shorter by 1/3rd if he didnt feel the need to add 2 pages of grandiose prose at the end of each chapter.... ... and I knew right there in that instant, Id never have a bigger boner or feeling of cocksmithing as I did when she walked through that door and looked me in the eyes with her blah blah blah...
Yeah that's the worst part about the book is when he over romanticizes everything. Plot definitely picks up though.
So this book sounds amazing. And the reviews are ridiculous: http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Matter-N...F8&qid=1458695002&sr=8-4&keywords=dark+matter
Think I'm gonna start reading the book of the month starting with April. Read The Hobbit and immediately started 1984. Never enjoyed reading as much as i have now
I'm moving from the city to the burbs next month, will be on an hour long train ride instead of a 20 minute subway. I'm actually excited because I'll read much more. And because I won't be jamming on a packed smelly subway every morning/night.
I watched the Wayward Pines miniseries based on this Trilogy. It was pretty good. Those that read the books said the show was terrible. There was a pretty big twist that was pretty cool I dont really have any desire to read the books after watching, but the story was really cool. Excited for this one. And yes - I think we settled on the Revolutionary War book

So uh, I joined Net Gallery recently because it as ARC's of books and I figured, what the hell, maybe I can read stuff that I like in advance. Well this morning, I got an email about a book that comes out in June so I decided to download it to my Kindle for the hell of it. Premise is really odd - spiders from ancient times come back to life or something and an atomic bomb might be the only thing to kill them. Doesn't sound that great but hey, they asked me if I wanted to try it out so I didn't think building up cache could hurt. Well, I decided to go back to the site and search for Dark Matter. Sure enough, it's there! I requested an ARC to read it. Minute later I got an email saying I've been approved. So... this may have just changed which book I will read next.
I didn't get annoyed by that shit for some reason. I think the audiobook is probably the best way to consume Shantaram.
I've been out of the loop, but Dark Matter looks really good. Is that the e-book people are sending around? If so, I'd appreciate a copy. TIA.
I unfortunately don't even have a physical copy. I downloaded it from the website straight onto my Kindle, but it's not a normal file so I can't get it off of it. That said, Trip McNeely also posted in the book thread, so maybe he's stumbled upon a copy that's not locked down.
No one send arkie shit until he participates in book club! kidding... sort of. LKRFN88jp - you may be able to get the file off your kindle via calibre.
I tried. It's really weird, it's listed as a document on my kindle and it'll disappear off of it in a few months. I will look into it more tonight.
This is a lot of work, but Ive done this before. My mom rents books from the library. I assume it works the same way. I tried to find a way for her to keep them permanently. Long story short - it was way too technical for her, so I just DL what she wants and send them to her. But what I did was get the kindle app on my computer, the book should appear on that too. Then you have to find the file in whatever it DLs to on your comp. It's can be kind of hard to find. It's probably not named by title but just a string of numbers and letters. After that - I basically followed this. It's kind of a pain in the ass TBH http://the-digital-reader.com/2015/06/25/how-add-kindle-drm-removal-plugin-calibre/

Has anyone read Room, by Emma Donoghue? Started yesterday just because the movie got such good reviews and wanted to read before I watch. Short, quick read. Pretty good so far (30% in)
I would like to nominate Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman Under the streets of London there's a place most people could never even dream of. A city of monsters and saints, murderers and angels, knights in armour and pale girls in black velvet. This is the city of the people who have fallen between the cracks. Richard Mayhew, a young businessman, is going to find out more than enough about this other London. A single act of kindness catapults him out of his workday existence and into a world that is at once eerily familiar and utterly bizarre. And a strange destiny awaits him down here, beneath his native city: Neverwhere. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/14497.Neverwhere
I'll read it but not excited. Didnt really care for American Gods. BUT - Imma still read it. See that works Arkie Proud ? That's the 1st Rule of Book Club. READ THE BOOK.
