NYC bros, Group of 4 guys heading up there end of July for a thurs-sun weekend. All somewhat laid back non-hipsters in our mid-20s just looking to get drunk at bars(not clubs), chase skirt, etc.. I've read last 7 pages or so of this thread. So far I'm thinking dinner at Peter Luger's and Traif. Also probably 9/11 memorial at some point. What else should we do in your fine city? None of us are poors at all but we're not exactly ballers either. Appreciate any help.
Russian and Turkish Bath House is an awesome and unique experience. Just go when it's coed - I highly recommend going around 9-10am on Saturday morning to sweat out Friday night. It's the best hangover cure on the planet and it won't be crowded. Back and forth between the hot rooms and ice cold plunge pool is the tits. You can also blaze on the patio there. plan to drink beers in Sheep's Meadow in Central Park and toss the frisbee or football - lots of bikinis there too. Just put beers in cups. Brunch in the west village is nice. Extra Virgin is a tight spot - it feels like Europe around there and there are a lot of places to go for more drinks after. Walk the high line park and end with tacos at Los Tacos #1 in Chealsea market, then go get liters at the standard Biergarten. Liters at Houston Hall is also fun. B Bar is full of loose-moraled interns and recent grads. Benjamin Steakhouse in midtown is just as good as Peter lugar IMO (the owners actually split from lugar years ago) and it's easier to get a res and you'll still be in Manhattan.
Honestly, I think some of the mystery and surprise is what will make for an enjoyable trip. Wander through East Village, Greenwich Village, LES, etc. and stop off at different bars/restaurants/etc. that seem interesting. I've lived here for almost a year, and it blows my mind how many places I've never been to (or in some cases, noticed). But if you do need a cheat sheet here are a few cool bars in that area that I like that have good talent that is in the mid-20s range and up (helping you avoid college/intern shit shows) -Roost (this thread's resident first date spot) -Summit Bar -The Wayland -The Third Man -The Wren -10 Degrees
I've taken 15+ girls to the roost for a first date, including my current GF. She thinks she was the first, though.
I got a Bumble date on Wednesday. She lives in Little Italy so I can't decide if I want to go with ole reliable or somewhere a little closer to her.
Hi I'm the F Train and the F is for "go FUCK yourself" because I'm never running and when I do I'm late. Please enjoy your $30 uber to Prospect Park.
i live near this bar near shalel lounge that's a basement bar and has a turkish motif because it's a turkish restaurant. if a girl ever lives in the uws i suggest that spot for an after dinner joint and i've never seen anyone at the roost while i was there.
What's happening in Prospect Park today? "Wow it's so nice out we should take today and clean our apartment." - wife
Friends birthday party. Drank a nice Anderson Valley Gose, a GF Sculpin, and a couple new brews which escape me but it was fun. Popped my Kan Jam cherry finally. They need a heavier frisbee.
You could come to Bushwick, get off at the Knickerbocker M stop and get held up at gun point. AWESOME FRIDAY NIGHT BROS.
jaimej fantastic recommendation regarding Traif. Had dinner there last night and it was unreal. We can officially add Traif to the list of go-to recommendations for the thread, imo. jaimej, apparently the head chef and his wife opened another spot right next door called Xixi. Mexican influenced small plates. You been?
Gotta give credit where credit is due, KJROD20 actually found Traif when we were looking for places to go on our anniversary a few years back. We ended up not getting a reservation that night and going back another time for the tasting with some friends. The night of our anniversary they asked us if we wanted to go to Xixi but since we had never heard of it we balked and went somewhere else instead. Definitely want to check it out now, though!
Going to Xixi this week actually. Yeah, Traif is tits. Spend the day at Fort Tilden beach yesterday. Other than being hipster central--I know that I live in Bushwick so I shouldn't talk, but fuck off--it was awesome. The weather was gorgeous and about 40% of the girls are topless the whole time.
With a great recommendation from Fancy I went and had Ippudo Started with the pork buns.. So amazing Then had the Akamaru Modern Ramen with eggs.. Again fantastic I had to ask for a fork because me using chop sticks was embarrassing
Put in your dental dams cuz the cunt level is about to turn up: I have a hard time waiting in the Ippudo lines after going to Tokyo and being able to get it like we get Chipotle.
Totto > Ivan Ramen > Ippudo Ramen is good. No point to wait in line when you can go to Ramen Setagaya or Misoya to get nearly the same thing. I went to David Chang's 'Fuku' and it was so mediocre. Not even on par with Chik Fil A.
Posted this in another thread, but reasons like this is why NYC is great. At my basketball pickup game, a Victoria's Secret model does her yoga stretches on the sidelines.
Fancy where did you get that Psychokinesis? How did it compare to Telekinesis? Grimm >>> I'm going to try Babu Ji on Friday. Some new Indian concept from Australia.
Cannibal but they have it at Good Beer too. Haven't had the ones you mentioned... Report back on that restaurant too pls
Ippudo westside is nice because they will take your number and call you when it's ready assuming you are never able to get into Totto Hanjan is a nice Korean place in Flatiron. Apparently they only serve their Ramen after 9PM.
so this summer i've checked out a bunch of street ball leagues rucker park's on 155th/8th and the iconic one, but West 4th in the village across from IFC is pretty cool too. and much closer to all of your respective apts. i feel like i'm the only one who ever goes above 125th and that's solely for work purposes
My office is very close. In the winter I go once a week probably...just get there by 11:55 and its usually only a 5-10 min wait
