laguardia is the airport that would have been dope in the 70s but is now a cruel joke almost worth flying into newark, less fuckery that way and a much better airport
I have to respectfully disagree with this. Been to all three; Ippudo is king. Agree. When did it turn into a Greyhound bus stop? Shit is awful. Proximity is the only reason I fly out of there.
It is and it isn't. The talent there sucks sometimes. Honestly, some of the highest talent pick up games I've played in are on the Canal St/West Side Hwy courts. The best though is inside Chelsea Piers, it's not "street ball", but I had that membership for a summer and played with C-Webb ~2/week.
W4th sucks sometimes but its one of the best street ball courts historically, they have the summer league that had Kyrie Irving in it i don't play, i'm fucking terrible. but those two have the best run leagues that have some of the better players in the city. Rucker's worth it for the experience alone. Go to Charles Country Pan Fried Chicken before hand, get a coco helado for dessert, then ride out that food coma watching ball
Put your name in, give them your number, go to neighboring bar and drink, return when they text you. Wait problem solved.
Could not disagree more, I love LGA. It's so convenient, and it's never taken me more than 5 minutes to get through security. What airline do you fly? The Delta terminal is fucking sick. Restuarant/bar in the middle with an ipad for ordering food and beer at every seat.
Yeah... I mean that still counts as waiting, haha. Only restaurant I'll do that at is St. Anselm, and only because we can have delicious beers in the backyard at Spuyten Duyvil first.
I have two runs. The one mentioned above is at someone's condo in the westside. There's also another run that I do where we rent a high school gym on 18th street.
Delta Terminals (C&D) are as nice as any airport in the country. iPads everywhere, gourmet food market, german biergarten, nice restaurants, self-checkout, etc. Sometimes I actually wish they just had a chipotle or something instead of gourmet french bistros and italian pizzerias. But yeah, outside of the Delta terminal (even baggage claim) looks like a shitty bus station.
I have played in the rented high school gym on 18th. Who knows, we may have passed each other the ball and slapped hands. I usually run on the Houston courts by Bowery Whole Foods or Canal Street/WSHwy courts.
I had to fly southwest for the first time, was not a fan of the free for all boarding at all. The flight attendants are pretty great though.
The WSHwy courts have some good runs. I prefer the indoor gyms games because it's usually at most friends of friends to keep things chill. Outdoor games get too many randoms that fuck up a good flow.
Terminal 4... on one hand it has the shortest shake shack line in the tri-state area, but on the other, it's ONE MILE from security to some of the gates. Should be broken up into three terminals - 55 gates plus a shopping area is too much.
Do any of you play golf around here? Looks like there are some courses near subway lines in the bronx but I read reviews that said that the pace of play is super slow.
I do. All the courses within 20-30 min are awful experiences. Guidos from Guidopolis just teeing off into you while you're hitting your second shot on the fairway. I usually just rent a Zipcar and go to Garrison Golf Club up the Hudson. Pretty affordable, although far. West Point GC is good too. I've played the Trump course a couple of times here. It's $200 / round but the best NYC experience around in terms of convenience and course quality. NYC is probably the most difficult city in the country to play golf in.
I haven't played in forever but my friends that do keep talking about the course that just opened in Jersey City. The Skyway I think it's called.
I played Pelham Bay two weekends ago...wasn't too bad actually, although you have to get out there early to avoid a super long round. Surprisingly well kept course for a municipal. Not much room at all out there between holes...almost got drilled a few times
Looks like you could just take the Path to Journal Square and then take an Uber from there. Looks like about an hour but twilight rates (after 3) on the weekends are $23. 18 on the weekends for non-res is $63. I'd like to find a number of places that I can reach easily from the LIRR, Metro North, or NJT. Too bad Scarsdale CC is private bc it's across the street from the Hartsdale Stop 45 minutes north of GC. An hour each way is NBD - beers on the way back
Got tickets to My Morning Jacket..should be a lot of fun. Now who's going to Raekwon and Ghostface Killah on Monday night?? I'm debating it.
Solid. Rucker was a stop I made too. Wouldn't mind seeing some of the projects mentioned over the years by biggie, jayz, nas, etc either.
Bought 4 tickets to chvrches and sold them each for $30 over face value Which night are you going? I'm thinking the Tuesday show
This uber ad campaign is bordering on insufferable. I agree with their point about jobs etc but spare me this big govt vs market nonsense. Uber is a multi billion dollar co. I think deblasio just wants to reaffirm that getting denied a ride is a right of passage as a new yorker.
For those not familiar with the greatest nyc ball player of all time and the start of Rucker park, you're welcome..
