I too have a fucking mole or a gopher, have tried the "nice" ways with these vibrating solar powered things that are suppose to run them off, well he seems to move away, then I move the stake thing to try and drive him further and he just stopped moving away I just bought some poison worm things that I havent put out yet, hopefully it will end him
So I have totally redone my back yard. Cut down about 23 pine trees and brought about 15 cubic yards of topsoil in. Needed at least another 15 yards but at $300 a pop, I passed. Planted some tall fescue about a week ago and am starting to see some growth. Also, I live in North Carolina. The grass isn't quite as thick as I would like, probably pretty common for starting a new lawn. Would it do it any harm to put some more seed out to try to get some more to germinate? If I did that, should I put some more starter fertilizer out? Any help is much appreciated. Here is a picture for reference: Spoiler That picture kind of sucks and is a couple of days old. It is growing in a little better now, but I guess my main concern is if I'll do any damage putting more seed out.
Don't have an after pic handy, but in 18 months or so I went from Spoiler To a lush lawn using no aeration, no fertilizer, and no sodding. As the pic shows the lawn was nothing but weeds where the dirt wasn't exposed. So I let the weeds do what they were trying to do and gave the soil cover with straw, grass clippings from neighbors, leaves, and whatever organic matter I could find. A little water, seed, and a lawn took hold last summer. Weeds are nature's way of aerating, but also they bring nutrients and minerals from the sub-soil to the surface and give your soil needed protection from the sun.. Without spreading a human feces by-product over your yard or punching a bunch of holes in it. People flip over weeds but with a little patience they will pave the way for grass. Basic competition of grasses stuff, but herf derf gotta keep up with the joneses and kill these weeds, and put down this granular nitrogen product which, by the way, was invented by the same chemist who gave the Germans their gas for gas chambers. Cliffs - Don't be a nazi
grass is there....and with all the rain i let the stuff grow a whole lot so it will be fine. but every year its something else...
After talking to my neighbor, I went with the Toro Recycler with the 22" deck. It only stayed shiny for about 30 minutes after arriving at it's new home. This is what the yard looks like before all the perennials come up and the annuals are in the ground.
That personal pace is a touchy deal, though. Push a little too much and you're off to the fucking races trying to catch up to the damn thing.
I don't notice that too much, but may be the age of my mower and yours is newer. I did use a different self propelled mower this weekend to help a friend out and not having the personal pace felt really bad.
I have to aerate this weekend. Not looking forward to it. Thinking of going to HD and renting one of their machines. I'm not pitch-forking this shit and I like core aeration.
alright i need help. I live in Jacksonville Beach. Before we moved here the house was empty for months. The new st augustine they had put down in the back yard wasnt maintained and looked like complete shit. This winter i overseeded with winter wonderlawn and bam that shit looked awesome and green. Bro at ACE told me the st augustine would take over the winter wonderlawn grass and be fine in the spring/summer. It didnt and the heat is destroying whatever in the fuck was attempting to grow....what do i do. TLDR New st augustine pretty much died Overseed with winter wonderlawn in November Heat is ass raping everything http://www.midlandhardware.com/217114.html
Im no expert, but my st augustine seems to take over anything but it needs lots and lots of water and seems to do best in parts that are partially shaded
tons of rain helped the backyard at least. overseeded right before the rain started so free water for it to take root. some bare spots and a couple of dog spots, but best ive had it since i moved in (my first home)
I plan on putting an offer in on this house in the next week or so, the yard is pretty big for being in the middle of town. If i get it i will def be posting some work in progress pics. I actually love doing yardwork...
Yea aerating sucks. And o have a flat yard. Granted I did aerate on the beginning of my shingles outbreak so that could've had something to do with it
It's hard work unless you have a riding lawn mower with the aerator attached. After the cost of renting the machine, you'll only save like $65. Trust me. Unfortunately, I learned that the hard way.
I have a bunch of ground cover looking live oak suckers coming up under my big live oaks any ideas what causes them? Or how to control? Used to be nice plush lawn under the trees, but now it's getting to where it sucks to walk under the trees barefoot
I re seeded and plopped down about 100 lbs of top soil. Here is what it looked like 2 weeks ago: Been watering for 30 minutes to an hour daily. Bought Milorgranite fertilizer (best stuff on the market hands down#. I walked outside this morning and I see a few blades of grass poking up. Proud pappy bear right now.
It's germinating. Dark Dakota fescue blend. The back yard isn't doing much. The soil isn't very good I suppose.
I done goofed. Didnt rake and loosen soil and just laid seeds and watered the lawn. Used weed n feed. Do i just go and buy rake and start over or leave it be.
You can still get growth. I laid some on compacted clay recently, did a really shitty job because it was an area that I didn't care much about. I have decent coverage for the terrible effort.
Yea, I would let whatever you put down come in as much as possible and then give it another effort come October (with adequate preparation for seeding that time).
thanks to both of you. So I'm done for this spring and summer then? Should I continue to weed and feed?
because if you did, you just put down a bunch of grass seed that will never germinate because that's what a pre emergent does
I like how the little lizard is posing for the camera. I'm a landscaping whore, and this my friend, is a fantastic backyard.
Get a Lawnboy. Best push mower there is not named Honda and half the price and will last just as long.
OP, step up your lawn game. Go to FSU Grass Painters R Us and have an chick employee help you choose a shade of green (make sure it fits.) Add some clean accessories like a spray painted bush and fake plastic rocks. Last thing you're gonna need is the family pack of condoms from Costco cause you're gonna wanna fuck your yard daily. Good luck
Dig a hole where his tunnel is, get a lawn chair, a 12 pack of our favorite beer, a shotgun, and wait for the little fucker to come by and blast the cocksucker straight to hell. Or buy those poison pellets.
I've used a service for my fertilzer and aeeration/overseeding the past few years. Costs me about $300 annually. I just did the estimate for how much it would cost per treatment at my new house, and it's over $500 if I did the entire three acres. I am so sad. I'll have to settle for just doing one acre (which is still really fucking expensive) up front, on the sides and in the immediate back yard.
I thought all you had to do was let the fucking grass grow then cut it every so often. Being an adult sounds really fucking overrated
