Oh damn. Psu goalie died http://laxmagazine.com/college_men/DI/2014-15/news/061215_penn_state_connor_darcey_passes_away
Does anyone know if they make a youth lacrosse ball the size of a regular ball but softer? The smaller ones are too small and light to effectively teach a kid to get a ground ball or to cradle.
I know this is mostly a field lacrosse thread but just wanted to post this. John Tavares is retiring. John Tavares, arguably the greatest lacrosse athlete of all-time, will retire from the sport on Wednesday. Tavares is the uncle of New York Islanders All-Star John Tavares. The 46-year-old native of Toronto played his entire 24-year career with the Buffalo Bandits of the National Lacrosse League. Tavares is the NLL's all-time leading scorer, netting 815 goals and 934 assists for 1749 points over 306 career regular season games. Bob McKenzie ✔@TSNBobMcKenzie Canadian lacrosse legend John Tavares, who is the Wayne Gretzky and Gordie Howe of lacrosse all rolled up into one, is indeed retiring Wed. Bob McKenzie ✔@TSNBobMcKenzie And so ends the remarkable career of a Mississauga high school math teacher who has been one of Canada's greatest athletes for 20+ years.
Yeah was crazy good. I grew up playing Box lacrosse my whole life. Town I grew up on is right on the border so the Native Americans from Niagara Falls, NY played on our team. Well my one teammate dad was the captain of the Buffalo Bandits team. 3 Kilgour brothers so Tavares would come to our practice all the time. When I moved to Florida, I had a problem getting into Field lacrosse. Was just so much more different and slower to me.
In New England we play box lacrosse in the winter. The biggest difference to me is how box goalies look like hockey goalies and field goalies only wear chest protectors (at least the ones who don't want to be unmercifully mocked). Aren't box sticks also narrower?
I moved to the Orlando area (Lake Mary). Played 2 years in Middle School. Then strictly to hockey. We played during the summer obviously. Once April came around, the ice was melted in the arenas. Then September they put the ice back in.
I played D3 lax at Cortland in upstate NY. We played box in the winter to keep our stick skills up. I play D and hated putting a shortie in my hands. Felt weird. Anyway, box is still fun to stay in shape
I played attack, whereas it was fun playing against long sticks out of their element, it sucked having no real room to create behind the net.
Lax season getting going today. Most teams had an exhibition game this weekend with regular season starting next week or the week after. Went and watched ND air force today. That ND team is loaded this year, but will once again play one of the more difficult schedules in the country.

when does dom starsia get put on the hot seat? they are 1-11 in the ACC since ND and cuse joined. they were supposed to be a top 5 team this year with everyone back and healthy, and while they might still win tonight, this is not good. obviously he's a legend and one of the best of all time, but... @HPUMensLax 4m4 minutes ago HPU leads 10-6 as we head to the fourth quarter! #GoHPU
