I think Sturridge is still a great player and our best finisher, but his inability to run since his injuries is a problem. I'd much rather have a fast striker that can stretch the defense and create gaps in behind for Firmino, Coutinho, and Mane to operate in than what Sturridge offers.
That's what I can't tell with him. Is it an inability to run, a fear of opening it up and reinjuring, have the constant problems made it to where he's just slow now? If he's still hurt, sit him. I seemed to have more of a step a week ago for England, but I still wouldn't say it was fast. He just seems pouty most of the time which leads me to think he's loafing a bit or at least not giving his all bc he might feel he'll land somewhere else soon so why push.
I think part of this is confirmation bias. The narrative is he's selfish and lazy people look for it. Last night was tough for him because he was getting absolutely no service. United had 10 men behind the ball most of the game and the midfield weren't making runs from deep until Lallana came on. I think Lallana coming on, not Sturridge coming off is what changed the momentum of the game. Had Lallana taken off Coutinho or Can, I think we would have seen the same attacking impetus.
Oh I totally agree, the addition on Lallana not the subtraction of Sturridge resulted in more positive results. I've noticed this in Sturridge this whole campaign though. I'm watching him with optimism, hoping he proves me wrong and trying to be positive. He just doesn't look right/in sync with the others.
This is fun. Just hate I can't watch. Posted twitter highlights would be much appreciated. Free likes.
Joint top of the table. Given that we've played the top 7 except for Everton and city, think we can go top in the next few weeks.
So no harm no foul but how wasn't there an offsides call on west brom's goal? They had a guy right in front of Karius when the shot was taken
It was an amazing experience. We sat way up in the nose bleeds of the new main stand but still worth it. You'll never walk alone gave me goose bumps though, overall, there wasn't as much singing as I expected. I'll post pictures later this evening.
Steven Gerrard in talks with Liverpool over return in coaching role Henry Jackson on 23.10.2016 Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard could be set for a return to the club in a coaching capacity, according to reports on Sunday. Paul Joyce of the Express reports that “Jurgen Klopp has paved the way for the former captain to rejoin the club he served with such distinction when he is ready.” Gerrard is currently plying his trade at LA Galaxy in the United States, but his relatively short stay there will end once the MLS season is done and dusted. Although the 36-year-old has not officially announcement his retirement from playing football, it is believed he will not move to another club once his Galaxy contract ends. Gerrard’s potential new role at Liverpool is reportedly still being discussed within the club, but he has already started his UEFA coaching badges. Should his rumoured return to Anfield come to fruition, it would be another major moment in the midfielder’s unrivalled relationship with the Reds. He made his debut in 1998, having shone throughout the youth teams, and went on to establish himself as arguably the greatest player in the club’s history. Gerrard captained Liverpool for 12 years, between 2003 and 2015, and inspired the Reds to Champions League glory in 2005. In total, he made 710 appearances and scored 186 goals, and the service he gave to the club means a return should always have been on offer. Klopp is not one to simply cave in in situations such as these, however, so he clearly feels a Gerrard return can only be beneficial. The German recently echoed that sentiment, saying “nobody should be worried that we don’t have space for Steven Gerrard. Everything will be fine, 100 percent.”
I was driving to Lubbock with my boys for the Tech game yesterday during our game, so just got to watch. Two players I was ready to write off last year (besides Lovren) was Lallana and Firmino. Watching Adam start the run and Firmino weight a perfect ball to Mane for the first goal almost brought a tear to my eye. I am also really impressed with Clyne's attacking and think Can will really improve with some games.
It's not letting me upload the two pics of the field from my mobile but I'll get them here sooner or later.
Remember when some on here(Illini) were jealous of United signing Mkhitaryan and we were signing Mane? Lolololololololol
Right, Mkhitaryan is still the goods but Mane has far outpaced even my most optimistic hopes for him. His pace is exactly what we needed. He never had guys pulling the strings for him like he has now with Coutinho and Firmino.
Solid performance with 11 changes from Saturday. Dominated the game. Soft penalty to the mascara wearing :aero:. Vorm kept the game from getting out of hand.
Good to see Sturridge knock off some rust and get involved. Hope he can translate that over with additional starts on the pitch.
So when Sakho leaves in January, I wonder if Klopp will target another starting caliber center back then or if he'll go for another depth player like Klavan.
