Agree completely. If you're going to spend 8 figures on a player get a proven player not fucking potential. Look at what Sturridge has done compared to Borini and Allen
Sturridge...he's a 20 million striker bought for 12 million. Chelsea got fucking worked on that deal. The other guy might have actually had a point if he had said Borini and Allen.
It's tough to speculate because you don't know the true value someone could move for unless you're negotiating it. We got Suarez coming off an extraordinary World Cup and Copa America for what we paid for Sturridge and Borini.
I don't see how anybody can complain about forward play since january(while sturridge has been on the pitch). We look really good when sturridge and Suarez play together. I'm happy with what we have done. Realistically we couldn't have done better in the transfer market with no champions league.
I doubt that's true. He has been rumored everywhere the last couple of seasons. I think our top priority will be a veteran cb.
Saw on twitter where pelosi broke his leg today and borini is out for the year with a dislocated shoulder. Terrible news.
Ba is 27 going on 28 with injury problems and has scored 1 goal in 5 league games. Sturridge is 23 and has 4 goals in 5 league games (plus some assists) and is also a much, much better all around player. Arguing that Liverpool should have bought someone other than Sturridge when people are already declaring him the signing of January is really foolish...but not surprising.
The guy that put it out there has been pretty reliable. Said Rodgers is trying to sell a bunch of players to build up funds to make several purchases in the summer.
Sounds like shit. We obviously will make several purchases regardless. Rodgers has already said that he plans on buying older established players. Wouldn't make sense to buy another young cam especially if coutinho continues to play well. We already have coutinho, Henderson, and shelvey at that position.
If this were true, why was Sturridge on the bench and Ba walked into the first team? These are the same foolish comments fans and pundits made about Allen at the beginning of this season and Charlie Adam last season.
Why have Chelsea fired numerous coaches and wasted money on tons of players? They aren't exactly the model of a well run club or anything... Have you watched Ba play before? He's an out and out striker. Nothing else. Sturridge is a much, much better all around player and could probably play just about every position on the field. He makes the team much better, even when not scoring goals. Just a great fucking signing so far for Liverpool.
Another thing about Sturridge is that having him may go a long way towards keeping Suarez at the club. When he's in the squad Suarez gets so much more space to create and wreak havoc on defenses. If those two can keep building a dominant attack force, I could see Suarez staying put without CL play.
The fact that he even passed the ball to Enrique on that one goal was a damn miracle. Sturridge consistently kept his head down and shot from wherever he was when he was with us, even when he had glorious passing opportunities. That's one of the reasons his ass got benched. He looks good so far in Rodgers' system, he didn't have a place in ours.
So your argument for Sturridge being the better overall player isn't that sturridge is better at the role he was purchased to play. It is that he is better at playing on the wing. It's that type of logic that's going to make you shake your head each year and wonder why we keep finishing outside the type four. Lastly, Chelsea have won the league recently and the champions league last year. They will be playing in the champions league next year. Hard to argue our method of purchasing their scraps is a model to follow.
Son of a bitch. One of the few matches I miss and all hell breaks loose. We score 5 goals and then Borini goes out injured again. Also, sucks about Pelosi. Does anyone know where I can watch a replay online? FSP is free for certain providers this weekend and it turns out that I do not have one of those providers. As a final note, had I not known that we won already, upon reading this thread I would have guessed we would have lost. Damn fellas, just enjoy the win. Atleast give it 24 hrs before we go back to bitching about transfers (aside from in-game bitching which I tend to also do).
Huh? I was saying that Sturridge is a much more versatile player and can play a variety of roles on the field, even when playing "striker". He can pretty much play all the roles, point man, out wide/winger, second striker, playmaker, which makes the team much less predictable and more versatile. He can hold ball up, dribble well, drop deep and play long balls, create, etc. Whereas Ba and many other out and out strikers are more one-dimensional. That is why he is valuable to the team, even when not scoring. Newsflash...Chelsea have a shitload of more money to play with than Liverpool. In fact, they have 3 players out on loan right now who would have started for Liverpool prior to the January transfer window in Essien, De Bruyne, and Lukaku...maybe even Courtois. They paid 20-25 million for Oscar, 23.5 for Mata, 22 for Ramires, 25 for Luiz, 50 for Torres, and 32 for Hazard. That is why they are in the Top 4 every year, not because they are out there making great deals.
Exactly, Chelsea are quick to replace players who aren't good enough with better players. How do you believe we are going to build a better team with players who weren't good enough for them?
I've seen it mentioned multiple places too. Also that we've been scouting him pretty heavily this year. I've seen on the ever reliable twitter that he has turned down City the past couple years and a couple other big name teams that would be playing CL football. I'm sure it can't hurt to have Agger getting in his ear too. Only knock on him seems to be consistency.
I know it's only 1 match but I'm really excited about coutinho. And to throw my 2 cents in the Ba/sturridge argument... I'm not going to say sturridge is the better player because he isn't but he is a really good fit in our system. Great signing by Rodgers. I love Rodgers signings so far. I think Allen will improve and once borini gets healthy and has a run of games he can be a great weapon with his work rate of the bench.
You fundamental flaw in that line of thinking is not realizing how large the talent gap is between the two. It is quite possible for Liverpool to build a better team with players that "aren't good enough for Chelsea" or in Sturridge's case that didn't fit in. Remember that Glen Johnson also wasn't "good enough" for Abramovich (despite being his 1st signing). Raul Meireles was one of LFC's better players in 2011, was bought for 12 million by Chelsea and sold a year later for 8 million. Scott Sinclair was sold by Chelsea for 500,000 in 2010 to Swansea, bought by Man City for 10 times that in 2012. As, I said before, Chelsea have 3 or 4 guys on loan right now that would be competing for starting bids at Liverpool. I'd say that you could make a pretty damn good team with players that aren't good enough to play for Chelsea right now. I just don't think some of you realize how shitty guys like Shelvey, Suso, Sterling, Wisdom, and others are right now. Don't get me wrong, some of those guys have a lot of talent, and are bright prospects, but they would barely get any PT at Chelsea, United, City, etc, if at all. It will take at least another summer transfer window to bring this squad up to a Top 4 caliber team. Getting steals like Sturridge (and possibly Coutinho) are huge steps in that direction.
I do and have been crying about it since August. Rodgers got absolutely fucked by FSG in August. He was forced to start players that should no on our U21 team. Will be interesting to see our attack if we add another talented wing player to start up front with Suarez and Sturridge
Yea I mean Adam fucking Morgan was at one point in the Europa League squad and made 3 appearances...got loaned to League Two team Rotherham United and apparently couldn't even get in the starting lineup.
Insults players because they wouldn't get PT at Chelsea, United or City then brags about a player who couldn't get PT at Chelsea, United or City.
Not surprisingly, you avoid the relevant points such as the fact that Meireles, Johnson, Sinclair also weren't "good enough" for Chelsea and that Essien, DeBruyne, and Lukaku currently aren't good enough. Yet you argue that because someone wasn't good enough for Chelsea they aren't good enough for LFC. As I just proved, there are a lot of players that "aren't good enough for Chelsea" that can make Liverpool better. My point about those guys was that they wouldn't even get in the team at those places, let alone play. Sturridge scored 11 goals for Chelsea last year and made 7 appearances early this year. We're lucky that he fell out of favor there and that we have him....But you just hate to admit that the guy is good because of a stance you once took.

A steal in Coutinho? You guys over paid for a player who's going to get broken in half in the EPL. But I will agree that Sturridge was a great signing for you guys.
I said possibly a steal and based on how Inter fans reacted to the price, I'd say that's a possibility. I too have my doubts and other than the goal he didn't show much today, but he definitely has some potential if he can handle the physicality of the EPL.
http://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum...a189812a10943c3c028975ea714&topic=302036.1160[/quote] And you can find many a posts on RAWK proclaiming Charlie Adam was the type of midfielder we needed to take us back into the champions league. Is this really expected to be evidence of Sturridge being good enough to take his team back into the top four? With your post earlier about how Suarez may stay at Liverpool so he can continue to play with Sturridge, I can see you're just going to base your opinion off emotions and there is no hope for you. If you want to argue that Sturride is "good" that's fine. However, it seems that you are trying to argue that he's good enough to lead this team to a top four finish, which he isn't. He missed several chances today and is not nearly clinical enough. He's the worst type of player to expect objectivity when it comes to fan support, because he will score enough goals to keep the fans on his side. It's only a matter of time until we move on from him. Unfortunately, I have a feeling you will make excuses instead of admitting you were wrong.
Maybe if we played Stoke every week. I just don't get this at all, guys like Mata and Hazard haven't had much trouble adjusting for being ~5'7 and not the most physical guys. And Coutinho is as big as both of them.
Gents, thank you for Jack Robinson. We'll try to return him in one piece. Any youth forwards you'd be willing to part with?
