Yep. It really had the potential to be a Tier 1 MCU movie if we got no extremis bullshit, the actual real Mandarin, and the creation Ultron as a subplot. Hell, they didn't even have the credit scene with Tony and Banner mentioning the Ultron program.
At some point, DC has to stop simply relying on "So our last big budget movie bombed, let's just make another Batman movie, oh and get the Joker in there." Batman is THE most popular comic book character by a mile, DC needs to actually realize this and use him sparsely enough that it keeps the fans wanting more, the last thing they need is for fans to get Batman fatigue.
I love most of you ITT, but, after BvS, fuck you if you aren't pumped as all hell for a Batman film directed by Batfleck and co-written by Geoff Johns. Even my tempered expectations 100% believe it will, at worst, be the #2 Batman film ever behind The Dark Knight.
I'm looking forward to that too, but say Wonder Woman bombs, then DC makes a 2nd Batman movie to salvage the PR hit. Then say Justice League directed by Snyder is horrible, DC in scramble mode makes a Batman movie where he trains Robin...then say Aquaman sucks because he's too emo, DC makes a Dick Grayson standalone movie? Eventually, DC needs to stop relying on the trump card that is Bruce Wayne, use him too much and people WILL get tired of him. I want DC to fix their existing stuff first, not to cover the failures of MoS and BvS with Batfleck hoping people will forgive them.
It's literally the only Marvel movie I watch solely for the girl. Paltrow is fire(some pun intended) at the end of that movie.
Do you even Bane, bro? TDKR only gets better with age. Hard to imagine anything in this MCEU touching it. Even Hathway (to my legit surprise) tore it up. The opening scene, the first Bane fight, the stadium scene, the interactions with Catwoman, the police marching towards Bane's army, all of that shit was so good.
Yeah, no, TDKR is an extremely distant third in Nolan's trilogy. It was kind of a mess after Bane broke Batman's back.
Easy killer. I definitely enjoyed TDKR. Probably more than most. I just think it had some pretty glaring flaws that caused me to rank it behind Begins and TDK. I just think, based upon the ground laid in BvS for the character, the combo of Affleck/Johns will create an incredible Batman film. Also, just to bring this thread back to some sort of Marvel discussion combined with your adoration of RDJ, I feel the need to say Affleck is AT LEAST as talented. Probably more talented overall.
Everytime I watch it it feels like Nolan had a whole movie's worth of story to tell in between Bruce being broken and his return to Gotham, but they just cut and cut and condensed and rushed to the finish line. It was like watching a book adaptation where you know there was stuff left out that would have made the whole thing better.
Go back in time at the start and show the city without batman, the dent law rounding up the mob. The. End the 1st movie with him in the part and do a 2nd part with him coming back and traveling to Gotham. Would have been better
Affleck has directed some good movies. Not sure how that affects my original stance that RDJ is a way, way, way better actor. This is honestly the only place that I've ever encountered any sentiment at all to the contrary. BvS is the only movie I've ever seen where people did highlight Affleck as a bright spot or standout, though. You can argue that some of that is because people seem to think that everything else sucked in the movie, but I concede that Affleck seemed to come out much better than I and a lot of other people anticipated. He seemed to be the bright spot of BvS, along with Wonder Woman. The idea that one performance in what seems to be considered by most fans to be a highly disappointing movie somehow vaults him to RDJ's level is just laughable. I don't want to hijack the thread again, as literally everyone I've ever known offline who cares about movies has always regarded RDJ as a brilliant guy. I would just ask one thing...find me one legit website or article that has ever mentioned Affleck as being anything approaching a brilliant actor or turning in a brilliant peformance. I originally linked articles from sources like New York Times, Variety, Vanity Fair, etc that all talked about RDJ being among the most talented actors of his generation, and some people here acted like it was heresy instead of generally accepted popular opinion. RDJ has always been super talented and charismatic. He was just plain crazy for a while.
Although I did check the RT score, haven't read a single review or watched another trailer/clip. One week. Stay strong, friends.
Yep. I can't stand that Bruce fucks Miranda then sneaks out of Wayne Manor so Selina can take him to Bane, Selina betrays Bruce. As soon as Bruce gets back to Gotham, he's ready to save the city and run away with Selina after she's stolen his prints to leave him broke (this is beyond dumb too) and left him to die basically. There's zero military presence inside Gotham? Basically every single cop gets sent into the tunnels? How the fuck do Bane and Thalia know about Applied Sciences and that it's specifically the Armory? Ra's didn't know about it. Blake knows Batman's identity so easily. Gordon's known Bruce almost his entire life and had no clue. Bane's death is awful.
Yeah, all in all, it's a pretty big disappointment. The first hour or so is phenomenal as always in a Nolan film. I love the idea of Bruce Wayne having withdrawn both publicly and as Batman... Love his reappearance, love the introduction of Bane, the scene with Selena at the charity event is Christian Bale at his very best as Bruce Wayne... After all of that, you have a story line that is just ridiculous and basically recycled from the Begins. I do like how he told Gordon who he was, the quiet funeral at Wayne Manor, and the last scene with Selena, Bruce, and Alfred. JGL's character and that entire story line is one of the worst parts of that whole movie. In hindsight, the end of The Dark Knight may have been a more perfect end with the series having lost The Joker and Two-face.
The whole movie should've just been Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale flirting. And I don't even say that jokingly. The two of them were spectacular together.
Was saddened by this, since he's one of my very favorite actors, but you're right. The end, with him talking about using his real name, "Robin," felt like a silly reach to tie him into the story better.
I thought Civil War was great. There's a mid and post credit scene. No real spoilers but I'll put them in spoilers for those wanting to go in blind. Spoiler They nailed Spider Man, by far my favorite already even in a bit part. I see what the reviews were saying about Zemo but I didn't have a problem with it. Vision is awkward. Panther is very good but I think I'll have to wait until his own movie to get a feel for him; not enough data. The interaction between Bucky and Falcon is hilarious. I was disappointed in the credit scenes. Over all, just as good as Winter Soldier for me.
Netflix confirmed a Punisher spinoff series this morning. http://www.ew.com/article/2016/04/29/punisher-marvel-netflix
Ruined the whole Bane story. Should've stuck with the comic on that. Basically turned a huge/dangerous physical and intellectual threat into a glorified henchman.
Things I liked about TDKR Every scene with Bane Every scene with Catwoman Opening plane scene Battle of Gotham Gary Oldman Christian Bale The reintroduction of Batman in The Bat Soundtrack was awesome Michael Caine I mean, that's a shit ton to like. I do admit the movie seemed fragmented once the broken back happened. Still, Nolan turned in a solid sequel considering what he was up against via the inability to build on Ledger's brilliance. I went in with the opinion that there was no way they could duplicate TDK, and I give credit to Nolan for somehow drawing some of the same vibe while obviously going down a totally different path. I am surprised to see people ranking BB as better. I liked BB but it felt so small in scope compared to the last two of the trilogy, and it really lacked strong villains compared to Joker and Bane. I don't remember people on this site shitting all over TDKR when it was released.
It was gonna be hard to top TDK no matter, then Ledger dying made them scrap plans. Pretty sure there were a lot of us complaining on here. I enjoyed it overall but its the worst of the trilogy.
So glad I got to read everyone's rehashed appreciation for the dark knight returns despite no one watching it in the last year. In the marvel thread.
God damnit when he tells Batman to take two pills two capsules to Alfred and call him in the morning.... I laughed and cried. What a film.
Possible GOTG2 character spoiler? Spoiler James Gunn @JamesGunn Dinner out with some of the nicest people I know, and @michael_rooker. With #LeePace
I haven't seen any of the Captain America movies. Do I need to in order to enjoy Civil War? Or if anyone knows where I can watch the first two, I'd do that (no torrance, please).
