I have seen enough of Arcia to really think he is going to be a star and not another all glove and no bat guy like Alcides Escobar. We started his service time clock too early but we can take care of that by giving him a long term contract in a year or two where we buy out 2 or 3 free agent years. We should spend our money locking up young stars and not on the 3rd rate free agent starting pitchers.
The Yankees thread had to put us in the title because of their insane jealousy that the Brewers have the best farm system in baseball.
I think this rebuild if it continues in this direction can have us as a good team most years. I like the direction even better than the pre 2008 Brewers where we had a minor league system with Braun, Fielder, Weeks, Gallardo, Hart, and Hardy all coming within a few years of each other. Its going to be hard for us to find the next Braun and Fielder but the depth we have is far superior and we have tons of good minor league pitching where back then we only had Gallardo as a real top of the rotation possibility. We have talent everywhere from rookie ball to triple A and we appear to have had two real good drafts in a row under Ray Montgomery who is an absolute must keep in order to continue the upward trend. By continuously drafting well and selling high on guys we don't have to ever go all in for one season and instead we can have a chance at the playoffs most seasons which should be the goal. This team can be real fun to watch by 2018 and a real threat by 2019 at the latest.
The key to continuous success is to always have a pipeline of young talent on the way. We are well on our way to accomplishing this and wont be relying too heavily on one or two players for success.
Also Luc had a HR http://mediadownloads.mlb.com/mlbam/mp4/2016/08/07/1018833583/1470532310753/asset_1800K.mp4
http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2016/...ngers-brewers-braun-braves-sale-mariners.html Rosenthal’s Latest: Rangers, Brewers, Braun, Braves, Sale, Mariners August 6th, 2016 at 5:42pm CST • By Connor Byrne Well-regarded prospects Lewis Brinsonand Luis Ortiz headlined the package theBrewers received from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for catcherJonathan Lucroy and reliever Jeremy Jeffress. Not to be forgotten, Texas also agreed to include a player to be named later, and FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal (video link) characterizes that player as “a significant piece” who could be along the lines of Brinson and Ortiz – both of whom rank among Baseball America‘s 75 best prospects. The reason Milwaukee didn’t land the player Monday is because the two teams ran out of time before they could agree on whom it would be, leaving the Brewers to eventually choose one from a list the Rangers provided them. More from Rosenthal in the aftermath of the non-waiver trade deadline: While the Braves checked in onBrewers outfielder Ryan Braunbefore acquiring Matt Kemp from the Padres, Braun’s limited no-trade clause helped prevent talks from going anywhere. There are only six places the Brewers can trade Braun without his permission, and Atlanta isn’t one of them.
Its amazing that so many Brewers fans want to give Braun away. He is arguably the best hitter in team history and he is still great. Since he is the only big contract we have I see no reason to trade him at all.
Pretty stupid that so few teams had interest in him. Better to trade top prospects for relief pitchers who will pitch 20 innings the rest of the season than to get a top 5 catcher making no real money.
I heard that Stearns actually preferred the Indians deal to Texas'. Must have been much higher on those players than the industry. Also: We should be that high since we probably gave up about 15-20 WAR at least with no cost. Lucroy 5-8 WAR through next year, Jeffress/Smith could each accumulate 6 or so WAR over the remainder of their control.
I think Stearns is crazy if he liked the Indians package better. We should have gotten either Frazier or Zimmer in any Indians deal along with McKenzie and none of them were in the package. The catching prospect Mejia looks promising but he isn't good enough to headline a Lucroy deal. I think we lucked out that Lucroy turned down the Indians especially if the third guy is really a top prospect. Brinson and Ortiz are both better prospects than anyone the Indians were trading to us. I know we also included Jeffress but I still like the trade better.
They were saying that there was trade talk on Guerra but that that the price tag was steep, might have been good to sell high on him.
How high could the price be on a 31 year old rookie. I wouldn't have given him away but I would have liked to see him traded for a few good prospects from one of these desperate teams. I would be surprised if his name wasn't involved in the Texas trade since they were looking for starters.
Jimmy Nelson has destroyed his trade value. All we can do is keep him and hope he improves but I was never high on him to begin with.
Brinson and Diaz both made MiLB players of the week. http://mlb.mlb.com/r/article?ymd=20160808&content_id=194357122&vkey=news_mil&c_id=mil
Getting out of Colorado Springs and going to Biloxi has allowed Taylor Jungmann to reboot: last 3 Gs, 0.44 ERA with 6 BBs, 19 K in 20.1 IP. FIP in 8 games (31 IP) in AAA - 8.91 FIP in 8 games (45 IP) in AA - 2.97 FIP in Milwaukee was 6.08 BB/9 in Colorado was 10.16
Diaz hit his league leading 18th HR last night. Phillips and Nottingham also homered last night. I know that Phillips and Nottingham have both struggled but they are both young for AA which is really important to remember.
So if we sign Tebow and stick him in AAA to sell some tickets will that help us get out of Colorado Springs?
More likely to get real value out of him in the Florida State league where we currently have a team. The Brevard franchise is moving to Kissimmee and they haven't yet decided to keep us as an affiliate. Signing Tebow would accomplish that and keep us out of the California League which is awful.
Getting out of Colorado Springs really has to be a high priority though so maybe we can sign Elway to play there.
We know that Lucroy is a great player but don't need you reminding us every time he hits a HR. Hopefully Brinson and Ortiz pan out so both teams win. I kept telling you guys that Lucroy was perfect for the Rangers and you kept telling me that Bobby Wilson was a stud and you didn't need Luc.
Hader threw a good game on Sunday. I read somewhere that even though he has that absurd ERA, that he isn't giving up Home Runs. Dont know if it is possible to be that unlucky with BABIP but hopefully he is figuring stuff out.
Hader is our best prospect despite what the rankings tell you. The only question is whether he can remain a starter and become another Sale and if he cant he can be like Andrew Miller. I think Hader is the home grown ace that we have been waiting for.
Arcia on the other hand should still be in AAA. I have no idea why we rushed him and he just isn't hitting at all.
We better hope that Arizona doesn't try to hire Montgomery as their GM after they fire Larussa and Stewart. This organization cannot afford to lose Montgomery.
They need to be smart with him and not call him up till May of next year so we can gain the extra year of control.
I think across the board next year they should slow down the advancement on their big prospects. They were pretty aggressive with their assignments this year which is why so many have struggled.
