I was fine with that to be honest. I felt like we were more than a move away and unless we were going to go all-in like the Jays it wouldn't matter. The difference is we have better prospects that I don't want to give up and we're chasing the Royals vs. chasing NYY. More or less we would be doing it for a 1 game play-off. Save the prospects for a better run in the future.
I agree with you on that as well which is pretty contradictive. I in no way wanted to give up any of our big prospects but thought with the surplus of players we seem to have we could have made some move to help out with either pitching or adding a bat. Tonights game is off to a pretty good start. Also is Buxton's thumb hurt this seriously or are we just being REALLY protective to ensure it doesn't get worse after a couple games? Just seems like he has been out a while and never really knew how serious it was
Buxton is back today. He went 3-5 in AAA. Hicks has been really good and his time up here showed he needs to see more breaking balls so this was the right move IMO.
The WS window is going to be from 2018-2021. They would have been foolish to give up guys who will play a major role in that time period for a run this year when they are no better then the 5th best team (NYY, KC, HOU, TOR) in the league when everything is clicking. In other news Nick Gordon hit his first HR of the year tonight and has .312/.362/.413 clip in the 2nd half of the Midwest League. His 1st half clip was .250/.325/.301 so it is moving in the right direction.
Our bats work again! Hicks had a great night but was totally overshadowed by the mammoth shots and 6 RBIs from Sano. Aaron Gleeman tweeted this last night. Miguel Sano's numbers prorated to 162 games: .295 AVG .409 OBP .571 SLG 35 homers 50 doubles 108 walks 123 RBIs
That NY series had me so pissed. Guess they atoned against Baltimore. Not going to get bullpen help like they did Sunday very often, though. Need the starters to step up.
Top OPS totals by all 22-year-old right handed hitters in MLB history: 1. Joe DiMaggio (1937), 1.085 2. Jimmie Foxx (1930), 1.066 3. Miguel Sano (2015), .989 4. Frank Thomas (1990), .983 5. Giancarlo Stanton (2012), .969 6. Albert Pujols (2002), .955 7. Miguel Cabrera (2005), .947 8. Mike Trout (2014), .939
Sano and Buxton definitely elicit baseboners, but the rotaish provokes flaccidness. Just so happy to be relevant. Get a big arm in the offseason (questionable), get Berrios up, and next year could be tits.
This is also an appropriate time to realize not making any major moves at the deadline was great for the future of this team.
Twins have stolen this considering how many they left on. Not to mention those weird bunts. Awesome though. 6 in a dang row.
Texas is down 10-2 in the 7th and Toronto has the bases loaded. I think it is safe to say this will move us in the #2 Wild Card spot if the season ended today. The nice thing is after this series, we get more home than road games down the stretch and we've been so much better at home this year.
Holy shit did Sano crush that. I thought that was out of the stadium. Edit for video It was better on the in-game replays with zoom and slow motion but the expression on the face of the gray haired guy wearing blue in the 2nd row is priceless.
I have no idea how to post these: https://instagram.com/p/7ox0kLlYpP/ https://instagram.com/p/7owWTsFYnb/
This season is so fun. Can't believe how small the crowds have been. Who's the most under-rated contributor. Plouffe Ed Escobar Mauer
Plouffe has been tearing it up....yeah it is crazy how little fan interest at the games there has been over the last month.
I think it has a lot to do with the the hangover from the last few years failures as well as getting past hosting the ASG. Season ticket sales are down significantly from prior years so that baseline of pre-sold tickets is gone. I also don't think people have totally bought in to the idea we're a contender yet as for most of the year there seems to have been an overlying fear that the other shoe would soon drop. With the youth of the team becoming the core, I think fan interest and attendance has a great chance to jump next year. If we make the WC, it would really give them something to build on and sell to fans. All off-season there would be a greater acknowledgment that we are a playoff contender in 2016. IIRC the Vegas O/U on wins was like 68.
School just started. That's a big factor. Also, it's been raining/crappy weather damn near every day for the last month. Dome solves that problem. As to what Rabid said, I think that this team is so young that people haven't had a chance to get to know and get behind them yet. Mauer, while a hometown hero and still productive, is batting in the .260s and is still a boring singles hitter. And that speaks to a bigger point that the way this team wins is boring. You don't see many walk-offs or late inning comebacks. Most of the time, they have a great early inning or two and then just set the cruise control.
Home today with a sick kid so I've got to listen closely. Gibby comes correct this afternoon. Hunter clearing bases with a mean mug. Hot damn need this one tonight! Pelf just the man to keep it rolling. Just kidding. Pelf is not that man.
yes, hello, i will be attending the twins/Royals game saturday. Since tailgating is not an option at your downtown stadium, what good bars are there to attend before the game? What food should i purchase inside the stadium that is unique and more importantly, is there a plethora of miller high life beer products instead of shitty bud that they only seem to sell in KC. Is it easy to walk around your stadium and is there anything i should visit or do while inside?
Budweiser has the contract with almost all MLB stadiums. They pay huge advertising dollars to have a huge sign (see spoiler) and a deck or plaza named after them and make a contractual agreement that they dominate the taps at the stadium. Spoiler When publicly funding the stadium, the legislature made sure to write in to law that the Twins had to offer local (non-Budweiser) beers and the selection is pretty solid: http://growlermag.com/new-beers-and-more-at-target-field-in-2015/ The stadium is extremely easy to walk around. The entire lower level has a concourse with an open view to the field. You can also navigate the 200/300 level but it doesn't go all the way around. You need a Legends Club or Suite ticket to enter those sections. Food-wise: Red Cow has their 60/40 Burger (60% Angus, 40% Bacon) in 126; Murray's Steak Sandwich at many stands (105, 118, 319), Kramarczuks brats (get the polish w/ peppers & onions) has a cart behind home plate on the lower level; Andrew Zimmern has a Korean Chicken Sandwich in a stand at 114; or state fair classics in CF lower level. Here is a guide to food & beer with section: http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/min/ballpark/information/index.jsp?content=concessions Before the game, I personally like Kierans but there are a lot of choices along First Ave.
Pro tip - park for free at lyles liquor bar providing you get a drink there. Very old school place that's two blocks from the stadium.
i'm taking public transportation for the first time in my life to the stadium. the train from hennepin county med center
Stick a fork in us. Much better season than I expected and I'm actually looking forward to next year so not all is lost.
