Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Galaxy are straight raping folks right now. Won 4-1 against Houston last night. A young kid to watch and has performed really well in LD's absence is Tristan Bowen. He's only 19 and is an academy product.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Wizards got 6 points in the first two matches, have gotten 3 since :[
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted there's a reason the original mls thread was deleted...
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted This, I can't believe how well we're playing, went in and won at Columbus without LD and Buddle. Michael Stephens (UCLA ) is another great draft pick. Haven't even trailed in a game yet, and only given up 3 goals all year and that goal last night was a fluke bounce. Danny Mwanga, the 18 y/o #1 overall pick has 3 goals for Philly, and their new stadium will be opening up after the 2 week WC break. Brek Shea has been very impressive for FC Dallas, he'll be in Europe within 2 years at the most, Fulham was rumored to want him a year ago. Sacha Kljestan will be saying goodbye to MLS come the transfer period, and sign with Belgian champs RSC Anderlecht and play along side with that freak Lukaku.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I remember Brek Shea from the Toulon Tournament, was definitely impressed, is Mwanga going to be able to play for the US?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted He should be getting his citizenship within a year hopefully.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I remember hearing Man U among other clubs wanting Brek Shea before he was drafted by FC Dallas.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted #1 pick in last years MLS draft, plays for the Union
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted IMO, he'll definitely be involved in the 2014 WC cycle. A 6'4" LM with really good speed is a rare find to say the least.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Also is a striker and turned down clubs like OM in France and a few other pretty good Euro teams.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted the rumors used to be that he was going to switch to LB or CB, I know ManU wanted him as a CB
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I pray this happens, for the sake of our future WC teams
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted I dunno, he also is a pretty nice attacking player, scored two goals in his last MLS game
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Wow props to Philly, that stadium turned out very well.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted is that the bridge that connects philly to new jersey?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted 2010 Salaries from soccerbyives.net: The MLS Players Union has released the salaries for the 2010 MLS season. In a year where salary and guaranteed contracts was the big news prior to the season, the average salary of MLS' 406 players is listed at $138,169, down 6.6 percent from last season's mark of $147,945. Yet again, David Beckham leads the league with the highest salary in the league at $6.5 million while his Los Angeles Galaxy teammate Landon Donovan is second at $2.13 million. New York Red Bulls forward Juan Pablo Angel ($1.92 million), Toronto FC midfielder Julian de Guzman ($1.72 million) and Seattle Sounders midfielder Freddie Ljungberg ($1.34 million) round out the top five. Incoming Seattle Sounders striker Blaise Nkufo will make $480,000. Houston Dynamo forward Luis Angel Landin is the least costly of the Designated Players at $125,000. The highest paid players who do not qualify under the DP rule are Landin's teammate Brian Ching and Colorado Rapids forward Conor Casey, who make $350,000 apiece. For the salaries of the other players playing in the World Cup: * Edson Buddle, Los Angeles Galaxy, $188,488 * Roger Espinoza, Kansas City Wizards, $108,750 * Jonathan Bornstein, Chivas USA, $100,000 * Robbie Findley, Real Salt Lake, $87,316 * Andrew Boyens, New York Red Bulls, $62,005 PDF of all salaries: http://www.mlsplayers.org/files/june_14_2010_salary_information__alphabetical.pdf
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Also from Ives: D.C. United add Branko Boškovi? as Designated Player With the World Cup is in full swing, all the focus is on the tournament in South Africa. With the league in the middle of its two week Cup-imposed hiatus, D.C. United became the first team to make a move, announcing the signing of Branko Boškovi? on Monday. The 29-year-old attacking midfielder (who will turn 30 next week) hails from Montenegro in Eastern Europe. He will join United as a Designated Player, and is coming off a stint in the Austrian Bundesliga with Rapid Vienna. Previously, he spent time with Red Star Belgrade and Paris St. Germain. Boškovi? will fill the vacant attacking midfield role, hoping to add a creative spark that United badly needs in the center of the park. United is in need of offensive help, last in the league in goal scored with just 10 in 12 games. He will likely be available against Seattle Sounders on July 15, when the international transfer window opens.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Sounders need to break out the checkbook and get some better players. I Montero last year but he is the laziest piece of shit this year. The loss of Le Toux hurt more than I thought it would. So I'm a little surprised they've regressed this much in their 2nd year when everyone thought they would only get better. Their draft picks this year were really puzzling.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted They already signed Swiss striker Blaise Nkufo, who is currently in South Africa. Solid pick up from people who know more then me.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted They also got Nkufo for non-DP money (MLS max I believe) and he could be starting for Switzerland tomorrow, and was a starter for Eredivisie champs FC Twente this season, netting 12 goals.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Hopefully until he gets his citizenship and hopefully that'll be before the U-20 WC next year. His ceiling is as high as any young forward in MLS history not named Jozy, and I'll argue it's not that far off from Jozy's either.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted thanks. that does seem ideal to get him his citizenship, get him with entrenched with the US side and then sell him to a club in Europe.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted See my post above. He is making $480,000 which is almost 4 times as much as Landin, Houston's DP. Kinda weird spending only $125,000 on a DP (unless he is still considered on loan and Houston pays a fee or something).
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted It's the top of signing that I hope we see more of, a good Euro/Latin player that may not be in his prime but still has some left in the tank, and this guy obviously has a lot left and is excited to move his family to . Schellotto was in the same boat but since he produced so well, Columbus gave him a raise to be a DP.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted Would def love to see more players like that even though they may be on the downside of their careers. They just bring so much more quality to the league. Do you know anything on the DP the Fire picked up?
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted meant DC. For some reason I was thinking of replacing Blanco.
Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted From what I've read, he'll be on the lower scale of a DP, but sounds like he'll be a definite upgrade for that awful DC United team.

Re: MLS 2010 Season Thread 2.0 - Old Thread Deleted LA Galaxy to host Real Madrid Match will take place on Saturday, August 7 at 7:30 p.m. at The Rose Bowl and replaces the previously scheduled Inter Milan match LAGalaxy.com Staff Tuesday, June 29, 2010 - 3:13pm The LA Galaxy will return to the Rose Bowl for the second time in as many years to take on Spanish power Real Madrid on Saturday, August 7. The game, presented by Pechanga Resort & Casino, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and replaces the Galaxy’s previously scheduled friendly against Inter Milan, which the clubs have mutually agreed to look to re-schedule in the future. “While we were looking forward to playing Inter Milan, we are very pleased to be able to bring our fans a game against one of the world’s biggest clubs, one that features a host of the world’s top players in Real Madrid,” said Tom Payne, LA Galaxy President of Business Operations. “Many fans will remember Madrid’s last visit to Los Angeles when the teams played in front of a capacity crowd at The Home Depot Center in 2005, and now we will be hosting them at the historic Rose Bowl in what will prove to be another memorable game for soccer fans throughout Southern California.” This game is included in all Galaxy full season ticket plans as Bonus Game C. All season seat holders will receive new tickets in the mail for this game within the coming weeks. Additionally, all fans who purchased tickets for the friendly against Inter Milan will be issued new tickets for the game against Real Madrid or receive a full refund. A special ticket pre-sale is underway now for all current Galaxy ticket plan holders wishing to add additional tickets at a discounted price to the game against Real Madrid. Additionally, fans who wish to purchase a 2010 full season seat or mini-plan that includes the friendly with Real Madrid can do so at this time. Tickets are also on sale now to the general public as part of a special two-game pack starting at $46 that includes the Galaxy’s July 4th showcase against Seattle Sounders FC. That game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. and will feature a postgame fireworks extravaganza, which is powered by 104.3 MYfm. Single game tickets will go on sale at a future date. A nine-time European champion, and 31-time champion of Spain’s La Liga, Real Madrid finished second in Spain’s La Liga this season just three points behind league champion, Barcelona, despite losing just four times all season long. In late May, the club named two-time Champions League winner Jose Mourinho as the club’s new head coach. He is expected to lead his full roster of international stars, including 2007 FIFA Player of the Year Kaka, 2008 FIFA Player of the Year Cristiano Ronaldo, Dutch midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart, Argentine forward Gonzalo Higuain, Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas and many others to Southern California. Ten of Real’s current squad are currently playing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, while another three have played in a previous World Cup. The Galaxy, who first played Real Madrid on July 18, 2005 at The Home Depot Center, with Madrid claiming a 2-0 victory, will return to the Rose Bowl for the second time in as many years. The club’s home stadium from 1996-2002, the Galaxy lost 2-1 to Barcelona in front of 93,137 in their return to the stadium last August. The match against Real Madrid will be the Galaxy’s fourth international friendly played this year. They played to a 0-0 draw with CD Aguila of El Salvador on March 21 and defeated Boca Juniors of Argentina 1-0 on May 23 at The Home Depot Center. LA also defeated Puntarenas FC of Costa Rica 1-0 at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif. on March 10.
