Tyler Adams. He played for their USL side last year and was a consistent starter for the U17 team. MLS really needs more players 21 and younger getting minutes. USL Teams are a good start but for the game to develop youth have to start working up from the youth setup through the process MLS. A lot of homegrown signees are just marginal guys that went through college and would have average players selected in the draft in years past.
Jeff Carlisle @JeffreyCarlisle 9m9 minutes ago Don Garber makes official that MLS will expand to to 28 teams. Garber said "We hope and expect" that Sacramento will be in next exp wave. Have to think that San Antonio, Phoenix, St. Louis, Charlotte, and OKC are the other candidates. Feels like I am leaving 1 or 2 cities out. Maybe another Canada club Ottawa or Edmonton?
He lived in Portland for (how many years DirtBall 4?). We kind of mirror who we like in a lot of sports (both original from Nebraska, both lived in Portland) Right now at least he has Sporting looking, mostly, good. The Timbers backline (and lets face it Melano on the edge, no Nagbe so that spot sucks dick, etc. etc.) looks like what I would imagine a Sounders girls vagina looks like.
Argentina just went to 30 split into 2 groups of 15. Jeff Carlisle @JeffreyCarlisle Garber mentioned Detroit, St. Louis, San Diego, San Antonio, and Austin as possible #MLS expansion markets in addition to Sacramento
It would be a scheduling nightmare. Figure home/away in conference is 26 matches. Do they play the other conference 1 time each season? 40 regular season matches is too damn many with considerations given to the playoffs, Open Cup, CONCACAF CL. You looking at a club playing 50+ matches in the season. How do they handle years with Gold Cup or World Cup? Not even going to get into the fact if they go to an NFL style scheduling; it might be 8 years before you see a club from the other conference play in your city.
If they split east and west and played each divisional opponent twice and the other division once that'd be 40 matches. That's adding 6 weeks, or more midweek games with a watered down talent pool so less quality... The shield would be even more useless than it is currently. I'd award a "shield" or whatever to each division winner. Teams 2-5 of each division play a playoff then the winner of those 2 groups get added to the division winners for the final four teams for mls cup.
Which would be huge as mls pimps it's "stars" like kaka, goo, Pirlo, Keane, etc. A team like NYCFC more guy sign and drop 6 big name DPs between times playing at certain cities.
I'd probably go four divisions of 7 Play everyone in your division home and away = 12 Play everyone in other division in your region = 7 Play everyone in the other region once = 14 Play designated rival a third time = 1 Total = 34 Going to 40 should also be an option. The Open Cup is kind of a joke and mostly youth teams while CONCACAF CL only affects a few clubs.
MLS will end up the same size as every other sports league in the US. You can figure out a schedule. It is already unbalanced with no hope for a balanced schedule, so it doesn't really matter. I would think splinting into regions would be ideal. Play in the region home/away each. Every other team once. West Vancouver Portland Seattle Sacramento San Jose LA LA II NorthEast NY NY II Philly DC Boston Montreal Toronto Those are two solid 7 team divisions. Not sure the other 2 would work out quite as well.
I think he will probably miss about 3 games as well. Doesn't sound like he will definitely be out through May 1 at home vs. Toronto.
Oh, I thought I saw off of it for a month then begin training. That might of been an early report though.
He was at training today. Hoping its 2-3 weeks now. God knows Timbers need him really fucking bad, you don't realize how good he is with the ball until you play Dallas and they pretty much own possession and you don't create shit on offense.
Houston did not want LA to feel too bad about their shit defending. Great job by the two Houston defenders to play in Dos Santos for the LA goal.
they are playing like a west coast NFL team going east playing the early kick....asleep at the wheel.
Simple stuff that makes watching this league painful from time to time. All 4 goals were easily preventable. Oh well at least we are not going to have to deal with the Geiger Show deciding this match.
If there was any manager in the league that should know what Stevie G is capable of; it should be Coyle. Yet he is allowed a kind of free space to make those long diagonal passes into the box.
Never realized how badly I wanted Fat Sam to be a manger in MLS until now. Arena Football on Unimas? I can get behind that.
Crew got 3 badly needed points and Kei got a goal he needed bad. Hope that gets him going, he was missing by just a little on plenty of chances and was getting pretty visibly frustrated
Also, forgot to mention before but late in the match 85' or 86' Tyson Wahl gave up a penalty and they sent off Michael Parkhurst for the penalty and being last man back. Nice work refs
They've had injuries in the back, but on top of that it's as if Grella, Sam, BWP, Felipe, and Kljestan all remembered this offseason that they're not good
