If you don't consider it a massive blow you are very out of the loop when it comes to the Nashville music scene

Not arguing, but curious as to why you think this? The venue itself was shitty, but they were just able to get good, fairly unknown, acts. There are probably a hundred better venues in Nashville that are entirely capable of booking the same type people. Why doesnt the booking manager for Stone Fox go book at a better venue? And by better, I dont mean bigger. you could only see the stage from 1/3 of the Stone Fox.

This is actually hilarious. Stone Fox set up in the Nations hoping that the gentrification of that area would bring the customers that they were looking for. It clearly didn't happen as quickly as they had hoped.

100 venues? That is absolutely absurd. What bull shit

Fairly unknown to the people in this thread does not mean they were fairly unknown acts

GOP stronghold loses its most unique music venue....what a sad day

Yes, I used a hyperbole. Probably the first time one was ever used on a message board, I know.

You act like I meant that in a bad way. I was actually meaning "fairly unknown" in a good way, like the shows wont be packed and you'll still get to hear good music. But you were probably just looking for something to argue with.

I just love the irony that your favorite music venue in Nashville is shutting down because they were hoping for gentrification that still hasnt happened.

Yea I'm guessing the Nashville music scene will continue to be just fine and pump out great shows.

And those of us that are more into the country scene will be just fine as well.

It's bad news when a music venue shuts down, period. This city is great because of the musicians that aren't getting airtime on the radio playing at Stone Fox, Exit/In, 3rd and Lindsley, etc

sometimes they have to cut dog adoption fees, not because people in Nashville hate adopting dogs... it is because there are too many dogs

sometimes a music venue closes down, not because people just spend their time on broadway, but it just isn't financially viable (look at Silly Goose closing down.... awesome place, shit happens)

sometimes Vandy baseball games have low attendance, not because people are turning their nose up, it is just because no one gives a fuck about vandy athletics or college baseball

baseball is like the 4th most popular sport in America, somewhere just above Nascar. so, like most of America, I am indifferent about seeing a bunch of future minor leaguers play with aluminum bats.

Hey guys - wanted to stop in and give my condolences on the closure of the stone fox. Sad I'll never have the chance to catch a show there. Also, I feel your pain. Last year, some asshole converted a historic mid-size venue which frequently hosted excellent national touring artists into a techno club in my city. I saw some of the first and best shows o ever attended there and was gutted when I found out.

Though the music scene on Nashville is better suited to absorb such a blow, it's silly to downplay a loss like this.

RIP Stone Fox. Support local music.

No one was downplaying it, it just isn't a national tragedy.

It stinks but you are right that Nashville can absorb it. We have plenty of good venues to fill it up and when one venue closes, people take notice. Im sure something worthy will take its spot

it's great there are so many things to do and reasons to love the city. Yet I'm very afraid that, aside from institutions founded in the 1800s and places like The Ryman and The Opry, there won't be much for people who don't care about trendy restaurants or ambiance at bars 15-20 years from now. This is a city known more for producing crappy country music than anything else besides possibly healthcare. With Exit/In, The End, Grimey's/The Basement, Third Man Records and Lightning 100 already in existence, The Stone Fox helped take the Nashville music scene to a level it had never been at before. People from the NYTimes, Gothamist and Brooklyn Vegan started taking our music scene seriously in the past couple years thanks in large part to Elise and William Tyler

The Stone Fox was one of a kind. Few venues in the nation are owned and operated by people as connected and actively involved in the national music scene as they are relative to their age. What other intimate rock venue in town is owned and operated by people who make music videos for many of the Infinity Cat bands? Owned and operated by people who go on tour with Wilco and Jack White? What other venue in town helped get the members from now-internationally-renowned Bully their start in music? People from Bully were working sound and booking shows there as recently as this past summer. And you could just shoot the shit with them over a beer while watching awesome bands set up their equipment. What other venue allowed one to sit at a table with the likes of Mary Timony, Leon Bridges, Jeff Coffin, Casey Weissbuch, Steve Gunn, Kevin Morby, etc. while waiting for a sweet opening band to finish? There just isn't anywhere else in town that gives you that opportunity unless you are into shit country. It was the only place in town where you could go see very critically acclaimed rock/indie bands in such a low-key and intimate environment, plain and simple. If you won't miss that and if you aren't truly sad to see it go away in its relative infancy then I guess you probably went to more beer festivals/wine tastings than concerts in the last year. That's great but given the overwhelming sentiment that it's just not a big deal, I really dread to see the makeup of the city down the road

please do your best to adopt a pet. You won't need a gym membership if you do (you don't really need a gym membership anyways, workout without weights at your local HS track!). Join Friends of Warner Park and West Meade Conservancy. Protect Richland Creek

interested in seeing some future Cy Young winners? That's where VU baseball comes in. There's like 7 future first-round picks on this year's roster. The number of young arms in the upper 90s is just absurd. I don't bet on sports but if I did I'd bet they don't shit the bed like the VU men's basketball team has. No wins over ranked teams for VU MBB since 2012. That absolutely blows my mind. Probably a bit of a testament to how bad the SEC has been but also to the fact that Memorial Magic hasn't been alive for a while now. Bring on Will Wade, Nashville's own. The hero we deserve and need

looking for some free entertainment for a young daughter? VU women's tennis is going to be off the chains this spring. When the weather isn't great, take your kids indoors. It's free, there are a good amount of attractive girls participating, there is often free pizza and there is always great tennis. Sign up for lessons with Coach Macdonald while you're at it. Mason Rudolph Tournament at Legend's in the spring isn't a bad idea either. Last year's field featured the 2015 NCAA individual champion and US Amateur champ...as well as the perpetually loaded Bama team and Ollie Schniederjans from GT, now a full-time PGA Tour player

ATL some of us like that you can walk into random bars and heart great country music (not bro country). I'm sure the stone fox closing is big for people with your taste in music but for people who aren't into that type it's not a huge deal. Sucks to lost a local venue yea, but the music scene I like will keep chugging along.

Also, not everyone that isn't out adopting pets is stuck on their social life. Some of us are stuck on the road 7-8 months a year for work. Otherwise I'd have at least one rescue dog right now.

I'm in law school and couldn't care for a dog if I wanted. One day, when I get one, I will surely adopt one, because it is the right thing to do. But if you don't need a pet or can't have one, you don't get one. that's the responsible thing to do.

Stone Fox opened 4 years ago. It isn't some longstanding venue. Someone else can/will come around and create a new venue worth its while.

Nashville's mix of old/tradition and new is one of the reasons I love it

also, they are opening a new business on 712 51st Avenue North.

It gets testy in here like once month or so. Cornelius is involved 98% of time. In other news, water is wet.

It's all good. I don't like the Stone Fox closing but it's not that big of a deal to the vast majority of people. Just like if Nutella disappeared, I would cry murder and say the breakfast spread game was ruined for life. To each his own.
