I rented a mini van once on vacation somewhere- think we had a group of guys driving from Miami down to Key West... It was really nice. Not asahamed to admit that, I wouldn't mind it if my wife wanted to trade in her Rogue for one. I, however, will be keeping my truck.

Never worried about driving a minivan. We bought one back in 2009 when we had 2 kids, have three now, one on the way. Such a versatile vehicle, no ragrats.

When my wife was pregnant with our first, I had a sportbike, new GTI, and an older mint condition 240sx. Within a month, I had sold all three. That was 10 years ago, and I don't miss any of that shit. I drive a Subaru Tribeca, wife drives a Caravan. I don't care one bit what I drive these days.

wife is scheduled for a c-section on Tues. she will have carried the baby to the full 36-month gestation the doctors are allowing her to carry. 4 months of bed rest, but she got it done. i am pretty psyched (and terrified) of bringing home a (God-willing) normal and healthy baby girl next week. i seriously will have no idea of how to take care of a normal, tiny baby.

Yeah, when you are carrying a diaper bag and a stroller everywhere you go, looking cool in what you drive doesn't seem to matter much.

Sure, and if this goes like any purchase at my house it will go like this...

    i'll shop around,
think I got a great deal and make the purchase,
get home boast to the wife about my savvy shopping skills,
She will shake her head in disgust (or laugh in my face), tell me to take it back and then 24 hrs later she will get the same thing for half the money somehow...

    EVERY DAMN TIME.

Rolled into Carrabbas with all 6 kids, terrified looks at all surrounding tables but the kids were very good that night.

Old couple next to us were cool and asking questions/playing with the kids then picked up our tab and skipped out before we knew. AWESOME

I've put 110K miles on our 2005 Odyssey, with no mechanical problems ever. Regular maintenance is relatively cheap, and the timing belt at 90K was the only major cost. Three boys have trashed the interior over the years, but it's been a great kidmobile. Plus, if you take out the middle seats and fold down the rear ones, you can haul a fair amount of lumber or furniture in the back.

Wife's sister (two kids) got a used Sienna with the AWD option because they have a second home in South Tahoe. AWD turned out to be a problem, and instead of spending $5K to fix it they traded it in and bought a Jetta wagon and put a Thule rack/case on the roof.

that's what I do on quick trips....coffee/breakfast stuff like that. But if we are doing stuff all day, I fill up the backpack. It is easier for me to carry and I know where everything is. The diaper bag is like a larger purse where I can never find what I need.

so we are in the process of switching over to regular milk from formula and eliminating the bottle entirely. she seems to be fine with no bottle/formula, but really isnt that into milk. she doesnt seem to have any lactose/allergy issues and will drink some, but seems to prefer just water at this point.

is this something that just takes a few days or should we dilute it with some water?

Yeah, you can dilute it with water or formula and build her up to all milk over a week or so. You can also try 2% instead of whole milk, if you're not worried about her size.

Ours didn't like just regular flavored milk so we got some of the strawberry syrup and chocolate syrup and she loved it. I'd warm a bottle of strawberry milk up a little and she would devour it within a couple of minutes. She drinks regular milk more so now, but that could be something you try as well :idk:

We had one of these when our kids were stroller/diaper bag age:

I took that thing to the Zoo, random festivals, you name it any time I could. Never had to worry about crowds while pushing a stroller and everything we needed for diapers, etc. could fit into the zip pouch.

The kids loved it too because they were off the ground and could see everything from up higher on my shoulders.

Daughter used to be an amazing sleeper. 1-2 hr nap; 12 hours through the night. She used a pacifier up to just before Christmas. She turns 3 so we were trying to get her to give them to Santa. She would only use it to fall asleep and then it would fall out of her mouth.

In a heated discussion I took them away one day and she never asked for them again. But her sleep has been so shitty for about a month now. No naps and her new thing this week is to wake up and bang on the walls until we come in. It's like a fire drill in our house when she goes off.

Any suggestions on a transition like this or sleep techniques for a 3 year old. I will lay on her floor sometimes and she falls asleep. If she wakes up and I'm not there she's not a fan.

Our kid isn't napping like before either - I think it has more to do with their age than the pacifier (the boy has been off those for a year). He is more likely to nap on days where he goes to preschool in the morning, so we're trying to give him more activities in the mornings where he doesn't.

I have no idea what to do about sleep strategy for nighttime. The boy has the occasional nighttime party and we just try to sleep through it unless it lasts more than an hour. He'll usually go back to sleep.

Flying on Southwest confirmation - our son will be 3 months when we fly for the first time next month. From what I read on Southwest's website, we don't need to register him ahead of time but just get a pass from the desk agents showing that he is under 2 years of age and it is free as long as he sits on our lap.

Is it that straight forward? I just want to make sure I'm not missing some place on their booking website where we supposed to list that we are flying with an infant because I don't see it.

Chicago to Kansas City is only about a 70 minute flight so not bad but not looking forward of hauling of the baby's stuff through security.

Call reservations ahead of time and tell them, if memory serves me. It isn't on the site. It'll save you time at the gate/check-in.

The key to airplane travel is the stroller. Unless it is enormous, take it through to the gate. And give him a bottle when you start climbing and in the final descent for his ears.

Unless you are one of those special Southwest frequent flyers, Southwest lets you board in between A and B group. Which is nice. You get to get in there and situate your shit first. We just got to our gate and asked them, hey can we board early and get the kid's stuff situated? They never have a problem with it.

rcragg82 we just walked to full service check in with the birth cert and there was no issue. The first time we called ahead but it really wasn't necessary.

EDIT: also on Southwest, sit aisle/window leaving the middle open. Nobody will set next to you with a baby unless the flight is 100% full. pro tip

My wife texted to me and grandma that the boy spent soccer "practice" chasing a little girl around the field. Grandma texted asking if he was playing defense, to which I responded, "it sounds like he was being a little forward."

    Nailed it.

Fact! I hate SWA if it is just me/me and the wife. But flying with our twins has made it my favorite. 3 trips in the last year and we have scored the free middle seat every time. I would also pony up the 15 bucks or whatever for guaranteed group A so you can get a full row to yourselves.

Long time since I've posted in this thread. My daughter is 27 months old and has gotten very mouthy. Driving both my wife and I nuts. She can also be the sweetest person in the world at the same time. Tonight we are sitting there in the chair snuggling watching TV before bed. She looks up at me with her pretty little face and says, "daddy, you're my best friend". I'm not much of an emotional guy, but I absolutely lost it at that point. It was so random and out of nowhere it really caught me off guard. Being a dad is so awesome.

Figured it's time to acquaint myself to this thread. Our first kid is due May 8, a little boy. I get the "I've always known you're gonna be a great dad" bullshit all the time, but the thought of being responsible for another human is a petrifying thought. It's hard enough getting up to take the dog out for the last potty break, the thought of how much life will change in a few months is wild.

I thought this kind of goes with your question. We just had our house re-licensed by the state division of families (foster home) and as part of that process they interview all the kids who live there age 3 and over. Basically to make sure the foster kids and the biological kids are doing ok. I didn't realize they did that but it seems like a good idea.

My son had a 10 minute interview on the back porch, when it was over he came running and the state agent came in smiling and said he had made her day. The jist was she asked how it is going and what has changed. He said 2 things changed... He has to clean up after the other kids because they don't know how to clean up. And it's not as fun anymore they don't like to play with him because they are girls and they just don't like the same stuff.

She asked if he has to clean more and doesn't play with them if he wants to keep having kids over. She said he thought about it a second and said yes he does. She asked if he was sure and he said "Yes because I think this is what God wants us to do. The girls didn't even know what Christmas was until we showed them and it a good thing."

My son is awesome and much better kid than I was at 6 years old and that makes me very happy. My daughter on the other hand will destroy the world some day.

It took our son's two front teeth about 6-8 weeks to come in from the time he started teething. I actually took him to the doctor at the beginning because daycare thought it was an ear infection. It was terrible! Crying in the middle of the night, slight fever, diarrhea (for a week) which led to a really bad diaper rash that needed a prescription cream. I felt so bad for him because nothing we did seemed to help.

He is 14 months and still only has 4 teeth. I'm not looking forward to the rest of them.
