anyone in here have a kid diagnosed with cerebral palsy? my son was diagnosed this morning out of left field and i am not sure what to think.
Hi, Guys. My wife is pregnant with our first child. Looking forward to discussing parenting things in here.
Didn't you get married like 12 minutes ago? Now you're a homeowner with a kid on the way? Quick work.
We've lived downtown Cleveland for 2 years and have been talking about buying a house for nearly a year and just decided to wait until after the wedding. So once we returned from our honeymoon, we checked out a few places and made an offer that was accepted. We weren't planning on having a kid this early, but we weren't preventing it either. We both wanted kids in short-order, so it's cool. We are both excited.
How far along is she? We heard #2's heartbeat for the first time this morning and will know the gender in a couple weeks.
Congrats dude! I didn't realize you were expecting again! She is 11 weeks. We heard the heartbeat and I got to be in the room for my first ultrasound experience. Neat stuff, I tell ya.
MK1/3 took a trip to the ER after crashing her bike a few days ago; handled it like a champ. Got back on her bike and rode back to the car even though she was bleeding on her knee and from where her stomach hit the handle bar. I got to Skype with her in the ER (her nurse was hot btw) - her mom and my mom took her in just to make sure she wasn't bleeding internally from the abdomen hit. Then she promptly went to softball practice.
Thanks, you too. We're at 12 weeks tomorrow. Hearing that heartbeat is a rush, even the second time around.
So sorry to hear that, Ts and Ps. I went to school with two kids with cerebral palsy. Two of the smartest, nicest, happiest kids I knew. Didn't let the physical difficulties get to them.
Sorry to hear this. How old is your son? When you say "out of left field" do you mean you don't notice any symptoms and the doc just out of the blue gave this diagnosis at a checkup or something?
So I have twin 3yo girls. They came home from school (daycare) yesterday with these drawings and I've been dying laughing at them all day today. Kate (on left) always takes her time and colors inside the lines. Anna (on right) just scribbles like I assume most 3yos do all over the place. It's like dr jeckle and mr hyde and I can't stop laughing. Celemo you think my kids got any potential for future crayon sports caricatures?
I imagine anything twins do differently is pretty funny and enjoyable. dome foam I don't know how old your kid is or the severity of the symptoms, but if you want/need any tips on how to navigate the public school system, feel free to PM.
They are totally different from each other so that's cool. And they are retarded little 3yos so everything they do is funny. At least in daddy's opinion. Like tonight they had their first gymnastics "lesson" and just watching how spastic they were was great. They had a blast which was the whole point of doing it, but watching how silly, uncoordinated, and the lack of attention span they had was just one hilarious face palm moment after another.
My wife had her 20 week check up today. We decided to find out the sex. We already have 1 daughter and I'm happy to report, my last name will now carry on!!!! Although I would have be perfectly happy with the other result.
so....question. how does an almost 2 yr old know how to sneak around. We have transitioned to a real bed and I use that term loosely. #3 is due in December, so we will need the crib. #2 turns 2 in Oct. Today, I heard the door to his room open and I looked down the hall. I see him look the other way, just his head...turning the other way then back to me. As soon as he sees me, he darts back into his room. By the time i get to his room, he is back in the bed with his eyes closed. How does he know how to do that? It is hard to be pissed at him, as much as I want to, because he is so funny!
I can't say that I have. If I were in your spot, I would study up and learn as much about it and work as hard as I could to give them a normal life.
Yeah, I'm enjoying 3 a lot. I love indulging the ridiculous ideas and conversations mine tries to have.
Cerebral palsy was a suspect for my sons condition when we were trying to figure out what he had going on. We recently got a diagnosis of Amyoplasia which is somewhat similar, but obviously not the same. Basically his legs from the knees down are really fucked up. He is almost 3 years old and can not walk. We got him a wheel chair last week. We are hoping that surgery will be able to help him walk one day and the wheel chair wont be necessary. Anyway, how old is your son? Do they have a suspected cause? I think I remember the doctors telling me Cerebral palsy was often caused by lack of oxygen at birth? Was the umbilical chord wrapped around his neck or anything? Best wishes to you and your family.
So my wife tells me she's going out Saturday for a girls night with my stepsister-in-law. That's great, because it means me and the boy will be hanging out, then I'll put him to bed, open a beer and have some alone time. Except, she tells me, she'll be home by 8pm because my stepbrother is incapable of putting his 2 year old daughter to bed, so my stepsister-in-law needs to be home to do it. Now my wife will walk in the door just as I'm opening my beer and want to talk to me. Fuck him. Learn to take care of your daughter.
Tell her she should go over hang out at the step-sister's house and they can "party" after the kid goes to bed over there.
Update - they're going to a 3pm movie and dinner afterward. I asked if they were seeing a new Murder, She Wrote movie and having the early bird at Bob Evans.
Our son just had a mild case of it. We had no idea until the blisters formed, at which point they're already over the hump. It didn't seem to bother him at all. Hopefully he's immune to it in the future, because my sister had a bad case of it as a kid and missed over a week of school.
We had it twice - it's not fun. (wasn't a big deal for the kiddo, but my wife got it also and that sucked...for me and her)
Our son had a terrible case of it last spring. He had two nights where he cried constantly and got maybe an hour of sleep. The problem was the blisters in his mouth/back of throat that made it hurt any time he swallowed. Once it progressed to his extremities he was much better. Baby Advil and Orajel were the best for dealing with it.
My kid hasn't gotten really sick in the 9 months of his life but every time he has got sick, I feel he also gets me sick. Saturday he wakes up with a fever, puking, diarrhea, lethargic and 24 hours later it goes away. Sunday night I get the exact same symptoms. Porbably the 4th time I've missed work due to being sick since he was born which is equal to the amount of time I had missed in the previous several years. Downside of sending him to daycare I assume.
How the fuck can you not put a 2 year old to bed? Bath, brush hair, jammies, book, song, snuggles, and out.
My oldest was five days shy of being a month old on our first anniversary. I win. And by that I mean I lose.
What's the thing that you or your baby's mama is most neurotic about? My wife literally cannot sleep unless both of our kids have their covers on, despite that they're both wearing long sleeve shirts and pajama pants. It drives me crazy because if course she'll check the monitors at 3am and see one of them without covers on and then either go try and cover them herself or send me to do it if I'm up. Without fail they wake up every time. Makes me sweat with rage just thinking about it
We're not at this point yet, but I can already tell my kids will have to be in college before my wife is okay with them being out of her sight in any public/semi-public area. My mom let me go to Six Flags with a friend unsupervised when I was 9. I'm setting the over/under at when my kids are allowed to do that at 16.5.
I'm pretty sure it was the week after we got home. I needed a break after so much honeymoon activity so I like to think I can pinpoint the exact session. Spoiler She was bent over in the shower.
My wife is already pitching a fit about the boy riding the school bus in 2 years. I realize now that she never rode a school bus in her life, and has no idea how integral it is to being socialized properly. F'ing catholic schools.
We have kept the book reading downstairs and the bath (~3 per week) separate from bed time so our usual routine is diaper change, jammies, toothbrush, turn on the Sonos, prayers, out. It is usually under 5 minutes.
