    Hello friends.

Missed the restart of the thread. My 14 month old started walked about a month ago on my birthday. He recently walked out the backdoor and down a few stairs into our driveway while my wife was in the bathroom and didn't realize the door was not fully locked.

He is currently crying in my bed. No idea why. My wife is holding him. Generally a good sleeper so this should be a fun night.

We have always had good luck with Desitin for diaper rashes. It's messy and a thick creme but it always seemed to make a huge difference overnight.

Every now and then, we'll give our 3 year old some candy left over from Valentines day that we keep in his Valentines day box. He calls it his "love box". Last night, the following conversation took place:

Kid: "Daddy, if I eat all of my supper can I have a treat from the love box?"
Me: "Yes. And after you go to bed, I'm going to get a treat from mommy's love box."
Wife: blah, blah, teaching him bad stuff, blah, blah
Kid: "I want a treat from mommy's love box, too."

Our dog is not particularly fond of the baby, but he puts up with her for the most part. However, he's really sick right now, maybe even on his death bed, and suddenly the baby is all up in his shit all the time.

Regarding bringing baby home, ours at least intuited pretty strongly that the third boss of him had just arrived.

Anyone else just thinking they're going to have one kid? Both the wife and I feel pretty dang strongly that we'll only have one.

we will probably only have one since we are a little older (I turn 36 this year, my wife turns 39), but she occasionally gets the itch because she doesnt want our daughter to be 'alone' if we both die in a freak gasoline fight accident or something.

the itches might get a little bigger as our 4 month old gets a little more self sufficient.:ohdear:

I struggle with this everyday. We have a 2 and a half year old so we are at that time where it makes sense to have another one and I constantly go back and forth. I'm pretty sure we will try to have another one but there are plenty of days where I'm happy with one. The biggest factor I think for me is money. Another daycare bill will be really pushing us to the max of what we can afford and we can't afford for my wife to stay at home due to insurance. Sucks being an adult sometimes.

Yeah, my wife is at home and we're pretty strapped, too. Insurance for her and the child is like $500/mo.

We just keep talking about how rich we'll feel when she goes back to work.

You mention your kid is 2.5, and I wonder if we'll be changing our tune by then, too. She wants me to get snipped, but I just don't think I'm ready for that, even if I don't want another right now.

For any of y'all who haven't already done so, get your kids watching The Backyardigans, great show, doesn't get annoying, fun for adults and kids.
Just a solid cartoon, I am watching an episode on youtube at work as we speak.

We're having our third in September, which means from Dec/Jan through May we'll have 3 kids in daycare. I don't even want to admit how much we'll be paying for day care this time next year. Thank God the oldest will go to kindergarten the year after next.

We always use stuff called Butt Paste. It's in a red Box/tube. We always get it from Target. Works much better than Desatin, at least on our kid anyway.

My wife is a social worker which means she does a lot to help society but she isn't making a lot of money. We haven't had the stay at home vs day care talk yet but day care in Chicago is expensive and my rough math only has us coming out slightly ahead after taxes with her income vs staying at home. I also think she would be frustrated from a career perspective after getting her masters just 4 years ago.

However being the sole provider for 3 people scares the crap out of me.

Our son had a huge problem with the shits when he was adjusting to formula, to the point where his butt was constantly raw. We tried just about every brand of cream out there with poor results, until we finally discovered Calmoseptine. You have to ask for it at the pharmacy counter, even though it's not a prescription. It was far and away the best product we used and it got rid of his issues.

Is your wife going to breastfeeding feed? I pretty much have nothing to do at night since she does the feedings and changes diapers at the same time. Of course she's a stay at home mom now, and you may not have that luxury.

She's planning on breastfeeding so we'll see how much I'm able to do. My wife is a teacher so the timing works out perfect for us since she can stay at home and save her leave to extend that if she wants. That also means I'll probably be changing every diaper between getting home from work and going to bed.

Wasn't my decision... I just run with whatever she wants in these circumstances, makes the whole process easier.

Good news, everything is done but small shit to hang on walls, other than that, done and baby isn't due til July.

When we had just one kid wife and I tag-teamed - she'd work most of the week but be home TuTh afternoon so I could be on campus teaching and researching. Then when second came and she got a job offer she couldn't refuse, I became the full-time stay-at-home father. This was at a time when I was putting together my doctoral dissertation committee and hammering out iterations of my proposal, so I certainly had a few qualms about putting academics and career aside in order to be a full-time diaperchanger. Thirteen years later I'm glad I did. Yeah, we might have had more money if I'd stuck with it and put the kids in daycare, but I would have missed out on a bunch of priceless fathering stuff and they would have missed out on having a parent around all the time.

Wife still feels the pressure of being sole provider, but she also agrees that it's been better to have me home with the kids than having me work to pay somebody else to raise them. She's also a bit envious of a lot of the stuff I got to do with them while she was working (not quite as envious of the drudgery, of which there has been a lot).

My kid blasts a ball into the outfield the other day and that was where the other team put their kid who would rather pick his nose than play the game, so it turned into an in-the-park HR pretty easily.
He comes over to me all excited and says, "Dad! Did you know that if you swing the bat faster, the ball goes farther?!?"

I guess that was something I was supposed to have told him?
