Marner is a great winger that's overpaid by 2 million per year, and a pending UFA. There's no possible way to trade him that makes them better next season.
Terrible move imo They're just about to get out from under the Tavares contract, and people want to trade him for a defenseman who will be 35 next year with 3 years at 8 left?

It's being floated because they think Toronto is dumb enough to do it. Honestly, the team they should try and fleece is CBJ. They wanted Marner a few years ago and whoever is the new GM might be dumb enough to package a bunch of their young players and their 1st for him. Oh wait, he's got a NMC. Amazing

Preds fans have been all over twitter wanting a Saros for Marner trade since we have Askarov coming up. Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like Marner is worth more than that if a team has confidence he will resign.
It’s worth more than that because Saros ranked his value this year. He was worth more anyways but especially after the last year. They’d be better off sticking with Samsonov
Goalies, even the top tier ones don't have that much value. While I disagree that Saros tanked his value, he's not going to be enough for Marner. There's going to have to be a substantial add there. I do think that something could be done to make that deal work though. Saros, Novak,Fabbro and a couple firsts probably gets it done. (This is assuming Marner doesn't wave around his NMC like a sword to tank his own value.)

It doesn't sound like Trotz is going to trade him for a defenseman, even one that puts up points. He's mentioned multiple times that he wants more forward scoring
I thought Fabbro's value went down this year, too, even though he is young. We've got some draft picks to play with (3 2nds this year and 2 1sts next year), so we'll see what happens. Trotz seems to be indicating he's going to make a couple bid moves this offseason.
I'll pass. We're still paying off bad Kyle Turris and Matt Duchene contracts. AND have retained salary for Johansen. The push to try to find a 1st line center over the past 8 years has really been brutal.

Rangers fans still have this fascination with a Mark Messier-type player needed to win a Cup, and I’m not sure there’s anyone in the league that plays more like Messier than Tkachuk does.
Maurice’s lines may have cost the panthers game 1 for all I know. Been the better team since going back to the lines that have been together most of the season. (Bennett being injured really screws things up)
