Bolden was a guy who could never figure it out.

Every spring/summer you'd hear tons of glowing practice reports, but he'd kill us in actual games. He had decent athleticism, but was one of the worst coverage LB's I've ever seen and was prone to missed tackles and blown assignments.

He started the last 2yrs out of neccesity, but was the biggest hole in an otherwise good defense.

I can't imagine him being an upgrade to Schmidt.

You clearly have no idea how bad Joe Schmidt is.

Starting MLB has 60 tackles and 20 missed tackles as his season stats. Not even taking into consideration how many times he was swallowed up by OL due to his size.

It felt bad, man, really bad.

Yeah, you are wrong. Schmidt this year was lost, slow, small and lost isn't a good way to go through life as a football player.

Listen here buddy, Joe Schmidt is the worst lb eva and It is not a debate that i am willing to carry further. Jaylon Smith basically played 2 linebacker spot because of this little piece of shit wannabe leader.

    – Linebacker Jaylon Smith (+3.1) and defensive tackle Sheldon Day (+7.2) continue to carry this defense. Smith recovered well from an ugly early missed tackle to lead the team with five stops, while Day was unblockable in the run game, where he earned almost all of his grade. The lone weak spot in Notre Dame’s run defense was inside linebacker Joe Schmidt (-7.4), who missed five tackles and didn’t record a single stop.

Quick google search tells me he had a -7.4 at Clemson and didn't record a single stop, and that was one of our better played games overall as a defense.

That's pretty impressive, any luck on Bolden? He was spectacularly horrible against OSU.

He was a -3.6 against IU, but that's all I can find ATM.

Can't find anything. I think they only do one or two college games a week and that's the only game I could find for Schmidt.

And he absolutely had worse games than Clemson this year. That's the sad part.

Seems like it's down to ND and Stanford for D-Rob according to some Georgia 247 poster. Stanford's class is currently filled, so barring some change (which always happens at ND), he should be Irish.

I could be way off but does he potentially need the SAT score to get into ND as well and that is the hold up?

I honestly have no clue the differences in the admissions between the two.

Let's be honest, it's really easy to get someone else to take your SATs (it's been rumored about many if our own recruits in the past, especially bball). So I'm gonna assume his score goes up 400 points this time around and he heads to Stanford.

All serious here: Did Joe Schmidt ever hit
home on a designed Blitz? Every memory of him I have is getting picked up and us being essentially down a defender from his lack of athleticism.

So yeah, after further research Joe Schmidt was worse by -4.2 for the season. I may have missed a game in there, but chances are that would have just made him look worse since both guys were consistently in the negative.

The major difference is it appears Bolden had a couple of solid games early in the year, Schmudt was consistently below average according to PFF.

Nice to know someone was worse than Joe Bolden.

I have 2-3 images of him getting home but somehow not bringing the QB to the ground burned into my head. That could have been someone else though, I swear ND leads the country in that stat every year.

nope youre thinking of the right guy. that came about mostly bc of how bad our defense was once he got injured (along with almost everyone else). people didn't realize how bad he really was until this year i think.

Wiltfong believes Robertson will be irish by or before Monday. No idea what info he would have to throw that out there but thought I'd pass it along.

Is there any question Robertson would have the biggest freshman impact on the offense since Floyd? I think he would be the best combination of fit/talent Kelly has had at ND at Wide Receiver.

The latest from BGI on Robertson

The nation’s top ranked athlete hasn’t gotten any closer to making a decision.

Savannah (Ga.) Christian School five-star athlete Demetris Robertson told Rivals.com’s Woody Wommack during on-site interview Monday, that his recruitment remains in a holding pattern until his SAT results arrive on Thursday.

“I just want to get into Stanford, because I have been working towards it,” Robertson said when asked about his decision to not sign a letter of intent last week on National Signing Day. “I know how it’s a prestigious school for academics and I know they have a good football team. I just want to see what’s out there.”

Robertson, who is ranked by Rivals.com as the nation’s No. 8 overall prospect, has always listed Stanford as one of his top schools along with Notre Dame, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech and California. But while there has been an interest in the Pac-12 program, it hasn’t always been a realistic option because of admission requirements, and that’s why he’s waiting to see if he has earned a high enough score before moving forward with a decision.

“If I get [a 1500] than we will start the admissions process and take a visit out there and see how it is,” Robertson said.

But if Robertson doesn’t get the score he needs on Thursday, things will start to get interesting with his remaining finalists.

Robertson was set to take an official visit to Georgia this past weekend, but elected to push that trip with the Bulldogs' coaching staff out of town. He said that he’s scheduled to visit Athens again this weekend and could also visit Alabama the following weekend, but things are subject to change with his high school basketball schedule.

“I know if we make the score we’re probably going [to visit] Georgia this weekend,” Robertson said. “But if we don’t make the score, we’ll probably [make a decision] sometime the week after or the week after that.”

While that might not sound promising for Notre Dame — a school that drove an 18-wheeler equipment truck with its coaches to visit the five-star prospect the week before signing day — Robertson noted that the Irish remain active in his recruitment and he speaks to a number of different coaches on a daily basis.

“[Tight ends coach Scott Booker, running backs coach Autry Denson, associate head coach Mike Denbrock and offensive coordinator Mike Sanford] — all of them are hitting me up,” Robertson said.

“Notre Dame is probably the only one who pushed me to sign on signing day,” he added. “They were just like, ‘If you feel like signing on signing day just go ahead and do it.’"

Robertson’s brother and legal guardian, Carlos Roberson, told Blue & Gold Illustrated last week that the tentative plan was to announce a decision sometime between Feb. 13 and Feb. 17 once the SAT results came in. Robertson’s updated timeline, which could include a visit the weekend of Feb. 20, doesn’t exactly fit that narrative, but he did note that he could pick a school next week regardless of what happens with Stanford.

“I’m cool with it going even longer, but if it’s the 17th and my brother decides for me to do it on the 17th, then I’ll go on the 17th, but I can go any longer,” he said.

But just because Robertson would announce a decision that doesn't exactly mean that his recruitment would be over. The 6-0 180-pound athlete said that his family is considering signing an early financial-aid agreement instead of a letter of intent, which would in turn secure his spot at a school but not bind him to that program. That would give him the ability to change his mind if there were a coaching change before he enrolled in the summer.

“Me and my brother were talking about it," Robertson told Wommack. "We’e probably going to sign — I don’t know — I think it’s the [financial-aid agreement]. I think we’re going to do that one."

Robertson is ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 1 prospect in Georgia. He has already taken official visits to Notre Dame, Georgia Tech and California.
