    - Weis feels his career is incomplete

    - Weis is a dick

The third and fourth points may be correlated but the article fails to jump to that conclusion

Now butlers's gf and hunter's fiancé are speaking out that they were there, and the police basically beat his ass for no reason. Seems par for the course for the arresting officer. This may get interesting.

The police officer better have some witnesses of his own because it was always suspicious that SBPD refused to take either of their eye witness accounts that evening of the event.

This will indeed likely get ugly if the prosecution continues to throw the whole book at him.

    bump for Intel

    ISD Intel: 8/26
On Wednesday, Notre Dame announced Isaac Rochell, James Onwualu Mike McGlinchey and Torii Hunter Jr. as captains, but we wanted to take ISD readers to a deeper level with the four players. Chicago Bears linebacker Jarrett Grace played with each of this year’s captains and the former Notre Dame linebacker believes all four were more than deserving of the honors they earned this week.

“I am excited and proud of these guys,” Grace told Irish Sports Daily. “I’m excited for the opportunity they have to be in front of the team and to have the spotlight on them. They all deserve it. It’s a team game and these guys represent that in every way. It’s great when guys get that recognition. I know they’re not seeking it out by any means, so it’s cool when the right guys are selected for such an honor.”

    Grace on Rochell
“He is obviously very talented on the field. I think he has a really good personality to lead…Defensive linemen get a bad rep as dramatic or hard to get motivated, but Isaac breaks the mold. He’s someone who is extremely consistent and it will help make him a great leader and a great player.

“He has great knowledge too. Sheldon (Day) was the guy last year who knew so much about the defense as a whole, but also our opponent. I think Isaac is going to step up into that same role and he doesn’t get enough credit for his knowledge of the game or the time he puts in not just studying defensive line play, but he conceptually understands what we’re trying to do. I think that will really show this year and he will have even more production.”

    Grace on Onwualu
“James is one of those guys who everyone loves. The way I describe James is he is a cool customer. He is someone who is incredibly intelligent on and off the field and I think everyone knows that. He’s never really going to be in a bad situation on the field. I think he is going to take guys with him in that respect. James understands the things at such a high level and it will make a difference for him this year.

“He doesn’t really make mistakes. It’s so impressive because he is out there and he is covering slot receivers, entering the box and banging with the big boys. He’s one of those guys who is Mr. Dependable and he can do it all. That’s a trademark of James. He is willing to lay it on the line and do anything. That started when he first got to Notre Dame. He was a receiver, but he was killing it on special teams right away with his tenacity. That transition to defense was natural and I think guys gravitate towards that. He just doesn’t mess up and you can’t get mad at a guy like that. He might not make flashy plays all the time, but he’s working his butt off and doing things the right way.”

    Grace on McGlinchey
“I think it’s really cool and it should be to have an offensive lineman as a captain. Mike is one of those guys – who some people might say is a ‘Try-hard’, but I think he gets labeled as that for a good reason. He cares and he is extremely (supportive of) his teammates in everything he does. From the weight room to the training room to on the field, he’s going to one of those guys sweating buckets during the warmups for a workout because he is trying to be the very best.

“Being a leader is huge on the offensive line, because the line play establishes so much when it comes to a game whether it’s the tone, tenacity or toughness. Mike has the ability to really impose his will on guys, but also makes sure the team is imposing their will.

“The big tackle spot, Mike is filing in behind a lot of great guys at that position and it’s certainly natural he is going to have the ‘C’ on his chest and be a leader from that spot.”

    Grace on Hunter Jr.
“A couple things are so surprising about Torii once you get to know him. The first thing is his humility. He came in really highly-rated and his whole background with his dad, but he had his injury. I started calling him ‘Torii Bones’ because he had that broken femur. He was always in there rehabbing and then I was in there rehabbing with him too. A lot of other people started calling him ‘Bones’ too. Again, his humility is so surprising and that makes people like him even more.

“He provides such high energy for the receiver group. It’s not just he brings it on Saturday’s, but Torii will bring it consistently each and every day. That’s hard to do to sustain that throughout camp and a season, but Torii has always been able to do that. He’s one of those guys who always has a smile on his face. He loves smiling and that’s something that’s infectious.

“Having a guy out front who is bringing that energy, then he can demand that from others because he is practicing what he preaches. I think that is really great about Torii.”

ELLIOTT EXCITED, BUT FOCUSED:Way back on National Signing Day, Jalen Elliott was one of the signees the Irish staff pointed to as a guy who could end up helping the team immediately.

Elliott’s path to the field got a whole lot shorter when safety Max Redfield got booted from the squad earlier this week. But the Virginia native wasn’t letting all of the talk get to his head before he arrived and isn’t about to change that now.

“He’s focused and trying to get everything down so he can get on the field at some point,” a source close to the freshman told us this week.

“He’s a long ways away, but he knows how hard he needs to work, at least he thinks he does. He’s excited about the opportunity to have a chance to compete. That’s all it is. He loves to compete and this will give him a chance and hopefully do some things his freshman year that most kids don’t get to do.

“I think it’s so new that he doesn’t even know how to take it.”

While Kelly points to Elliott as a player the team will be counting on in Redfield’s absence, the freshman isn’t taking anything for granted, not even the fact that he’ll be in Austin with his teammates on Sept. 4th. Elliott has been working with the twos in practice, but the coaches haven’t told him if he’s made the travel team or not to this point, which doesn’t bother him.

“I think for him, it’s ‘Put your nose to the ground, get in your playbook and figure out what you need to know,’ so when the chance comes, you’ll be able to do your job, know your responsibilities and make plays if they come your way,” the source said. “I think that’s the biggest thing for him, just staying composed. He’s never played in front of 100,000 before.”

McGOVERN REMAINS LOW-KEY:Kelly announced senior offensive lineman Colin McGovern had won the right guard spot on Wednesday. However, the 6-foot-4, 310-pound McGovern hasn’t let the news impact his work ethic and has kept a low profile even around the people close to him despite his excitement.

“He is so excited,” stated a source close to McGovern. “He must have really went after it. I was starting to wonder and accept that he would be second-string, so it was extremely surprising, as he keeps everything to himself.”

How low-key was McGovern on winning the job?? Well, he held on to the secret for three days.

“After a practice last week, Colin told me the coaches told him three days before that he was starting, but he wanted to surprise us,” laughed the source. “What a kid.”

The secrecy may lead to a future career, as it isn’t the first big news McGovern has withheld from those around him.

“He could work for the secret service,” said the source. “He is good at that. He does it with everything. He didn’t even tell us in high school that he was playing in the Under Armour All-American Game until weeks after he accepted the invite. I am like ‘Is this just your everyday news or what? I would explode with those details.’”

BANKS OF AMERICA MIDWEST RECAP:Aaron Banks is one of the most coveted prospects in the country and the 2017 California offensive lineman, who holds the Twitter handle @BanksofAmerica took a visit to the Midwest with his family in early-August with stops at Notre Dame and Michigan.

The 6-foot-7, 305-pounder’s mother, Teresa, told Irish Sports Daily everyone enjoyed the visit to the Midwest and that it didn’t seem all that different from California. Banks was also joined by his younger brother, Frankie, who is a 6-foot-2, 320-pound prospect from the Class of 2019.

With Banks from the West Coast, the first thing that comes to mind in his recruitment for Notre Dame is distance.

“I am OK with whatever decision he wants to make,” said Mrs. Banks. “He is a very sound individual and a good kid. He is thinking a lot and whatever school he decides on, I will support.”

Notre Dame impressed Banks’ mother from the start to the end of the trip. The history of the University combined with the tradition really stuck out.

“I enjoyed the campus and the buildings were beautiful,” stated Mrs. Banks. “I liked the Business school at Notre Dame. I have been doing research on it to see where they are nationally and globally. It was just really nice.”

The family also got to spend time with head coach Brian Kelly and offensive line coach Harry Hiestand, who both made quite the impressions.

Mrs. Banks stated that Hiestand came off as a guy who is going to be honest and that’s exactly what they were looking for. She also mentioned Hiestand knew what he was doing from his track record with past players.

“Coach Hiestand was awesome,” explained Mrs. Banks. “What a great, great guy. That’s what we want. We want honesty. If he isn’t going to be honest, then that’s not going to work. Coach Kelly was really informative and he runs a good program. You can it’s a really well run program.”

While the trip to Notre Dame was more in a one-on-one setting, the trip to Michigan was different in that aspect, as the Banks family visited for the BBQ at the Big House, which many recruits from across the nation attended.

“Michigan was a different kind of trip,” explained Mrs. Banks. “They had a big barbeque and it was a different setting than our Notre Dame visit. It was a short visit and there was a lot packed into the trip. We stopped at Arizona on the way back home and we were exhausted.

“We enjoyed it all as a family and it was nice to be with both of my sons. It was good for Frankie to take the experience in and he’s the next one. I just enjoyed it. Everyone was so nice at all the schools.”

Banks came out with a Top 16 that included Notre Dame, Arizona, Arizona State, Arkansas, Cal, Florida, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Vanderbilt, Washington and Wisconsin. Banks will make a cut in the near future, his mother has still been impressed with the way her son has handled the recruiting process.

“I have tried to understand what it’s like to be him with reporters, coaches and the whole experience – and still be a kid,” she said. “It’s so much for them with academics, getting ready for games and then the recruiting.

“I’ve been impressed with him and he’s really quiet. He is being very serious about his decision. He is a very focused kid.”

Also, Mrs. Banks is very proud of her son’s decision to lose weight this summer and not wait until college to make the body transition. Banks has dropped from around 344 pounds earlier this offseason to around 305 pounds currently.

“It’s been outstanding,” Banks said of her son’s weight loss. “I used to be a bodybuilder, so I have always tried to teach my kids how to eat right. I have made enormous children and they have appetites, but you can’t force a kid to do things and he is doing it on his own. He’s been a mentor for his brother and they are both doing together.

“I can’t even tell you how pleased I am.”

ALSTON SETS OFFICIAL:Cortez Alston has been waiting to get to Notre Dame and the 2017 Atlanta defensive end is going to have to continue waiting, but he does have a date locked in.

Alston is set to take his official visit to South Bend the final weekend of October, when the Irish host Miami.

“Seeing the campus, the life of the school and how it is,” Alston said of what he’s looking forward to most. “I’ve heard really great things so far, I’ve just got to see it for myself.”

The Irish coaches were fired up to hear Alston had set the visit.

“They were really excited and can’t wait for me to get up there,” he said. “They pretty much think I can be a big playmaker on the defensive line. They want me out there to help the defense and go and win some championships.”

Alston is also planning to take official visits to Cal, USC, Tennessee and Georgia Tech in the coming months.

“I don’t have official dates yet, but I’m talking to the coaches about getting up there,” he said while confirming those were the schools he’s focusing in on most.

He isn’t planning to rush a decision.

“Some of the schools prefer I do their official visits in January, so I might have to wait until Signing Day, but we’ll see,” said Alston.

He hoped to make more visits during the summer, including one to Notre Dame for Irish Invasion, but wasn’t able to, so the officials will hold a lot of weight for his decision.

“I think it’ll give me a great opportunity to get out there,” he said. “That’s been my biggest problem so far, I haven’t been able to get many places this summer, so I’m excited for the opportunity.”

Notre Dame is a school he could see himself at.

“Just the mix of football, tradition as well as academics. It’s somewhere I can’t really pass up.”

FROM THE TRAIL:As the high school football season kicked off last week in some states and fully gets into the swing this week across the nation, we checked in with a few prospects who have Notre Dame interest, as recruiting is also about to heat up again.

2018 WR Dashon Bussell:The Fort Wayne, Ind., star took a kickoff to the house for Bishop Luers in the first game of the season last week and is also planning his fall visit schedule.

“I want to get to Notre Dame, Michigan State, Toledo, Indiana, Ohio State and Illinois,” Bussell stated to Irish Sports Daily.

Notre Dame, Michigan State and Ohio State have yet to offer, but the 6-foot-2, 170-pounder impressed at Irish Invasion and Ohio State’s camp this summer. Bussell also believes one Midwest power is close to offering.

“I am thinking Michigan State,” said Bussell. “I think more schools will be offering soon too.”

Uyeyama on Bussell:It might seem like a guy with MAC offers and nothing more would not be someone to watch closely as a potential Notre Dame offer this fall, but I think Bussell is a local prospect to keep an eye on. He's got natural ball skills and as a sophomore he showed an ability to high point the football. His speed and size didn't jump out on film and I think that's a large reason why the major offers didn't come his way immediately.

At Irish Invasion, he showed the ability to separate and was outstanding as a route-runner. It's obvious the work put in at AWP, the same training facility that produced Jaylon Smith, Drue Tranquill and Austin Mack, has paid off for Bussell. His short-area quickness really stood out that day in Notre Dame Stadium and if he can show the ability to run away from defenders this fall, then I think his offer list is going to blow up.

Yes, he's very thin and needs to add weight and strength, but they said that about Will Fuller and he ended up being more than fine at the next level. With a big junior season, I think Bussell could be the next Notre Dame target out of Fort Wayne.

2018 DL Malik Vann:The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder from Ohio said Notre Dame led after his visit to South Bend for Irish Invasion, but is that still the case?

“Yes,” Vann responded when asked if Notre Dame was his leader.

The Fairfield star has planned a trip to South Bend for this fall and it’s not a surprise it will be when Michigan State comes to town. The Irish and Spartans are likely Vann’s top two schools, so getting a chance to see both in action is a huge benefit for him.

“Both schools I am highly interested in,” stated Vann. “I want to see two top-tier teams go at it. I want to see the atmosphere at Notre Dame and what it’s like on game day. I don’t really have anything overly specific I want to see though.”

Vann plans to visit East Lansing for game later in the fall, as well as Kentucky and Tennessee.

2018 LB Dallas Gant:The four-star Ohio linebacker also visited Notre Dame for Irish Invasion, but has always kept a low-key recruitment. Gant was preparing for his first game of the season tonight, but news broke on Thursday that his opponent was forfeiting, so it will be another week of waiting for the 6-foot-3, 210-pounder.

The Irish offered Gant immediately after Irish Invasion and they jumped into his top group, but who is in the lead for one of the nation’s top linebackers?

“Right now I would say Ohio State is my leader,” stated Gant. “Notre Dame is great and I wouldn’t be surprised if they took the lead.”

One factor Gant is trying to figure out is where he exactly stands with Notre Dame. The Toledo native is well aware the Irish took two 2018 linebackers this summer and is looking forward to seeing what that could mean for him.

“We haven’t talked a ton, but a few times here and there,” Gant said of contact with Notre Dame. “I will call them and I assume they’ll pick up and I’ll get a better idea of where I stand.”

Gant will likely get a chance to talk to his area recruiter Mike Elston and the coaching staff when he returns to South Bend this fall.

“I plan to get out to Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State and anywhere else I have time to make a game,” he stated.

As junior film gets released, Gant expects his offer list to grow. Notre Dame, Boston College, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Ohio State and Rutgers are some of the programs on a list that is sure to grow in the near future.

“I am not sure who will offer yet,” said Gant. “I will have a better idea once schools can call me.”

FROM THE BUSHES:If we had to guess, we’d pick DeShone Kizer to start next weekend against Texas. While we expect both QBs to play, Kizer continues to show impressive intelligence at the line of scrimmage and the ability to get ND in the right play. This is something the ND staff values, so we feel Kizer will get the nod.

We’ve heard that EQ St. Brown has continued to impress throughout August. St. Brown was starting to show the consistency you need to be an every down player, and we’ve heard that continued since the media was last allowed to view practice. Like all new players, there will be some growing pains, but all signs point to St. Brown having a very impressive year for the Irish.

Josh Adams is back and moving well. There should be no lingering issues as he rolls into the Texas game. However, he’ll have some other great backs to help him carry the load.

Jay Hayes has been limited with an ankle sprain, and that has opened the door for Andrew Trumbetti to show what he can do. Trumbetti has taken advantage of the opportunity and has done some of his best work these past few days. Hayes will have a real battle for PT once he returns.

While there is not Jaylon Smith at linebacker this year, many feel the linebacker corps will be more productive this season. The trio of Nyles Morgan, Greer Martini and James Onwualu have been steady all Fall. This is a group that could surprise.

Finally, everyone wants to know about the four players arrested last weekend. What should we expect? We don’t really know what will happen, but we wouldn’t count out all four playing against Texas. With some legal issues remaining unresolved, It’s hard to penalize someone without knowing all the facts. At some point, we do expect some sort of punishment, but we don’t expect season-ending suspensions, and we’re not sure it will be multiple game suspensions, either.

Read he had a bad interception very late that he should have threw away. Other team scored and they lost 28-27. Sounds like Kelly was calling the plays.

So how do you guys feel about our split QB system heading into the system? I have my doubts, but think if anyone can find a way to make it work - it'll be Kelly. Honestly, I think a lot depends on whether he can keep his emotions in check and make rational decisions without blowing his top. If he overreacts, he risks putting one, if not both qbs, in bad place mentally. That exactly what we don't need. We need both of these guys to be playing and competing at the highest levels, which means both will need support from their head coach.

It's going to be interesting to see. How long are the leashes? Will he go with the hot hand? Are there specific packages where one will play over the other (e.g. goal line - Zaire)?

FWIW, St. Ed's is damn good (Shaun Crawford's school). Prob top 5 in Ohio. No shame in being "ok" against them.

Still think Kizer gets the vast majority of snaps and the whole "two QB" thing is some mental gymnastics to create some sort of doubt/uncertainty. Expecting Kizer to get 1-2 series vs. Texas.

watching cal hawaii, was i the only one who thought it was ridiculous when the broadcast was talking about a 17 and a 20 hour time difference for the players to get used too

The Irish Illustrated guys are going through their season predictions right now

That group is very down on this year's team which isn't inspiring confidence from me right now. It seems like all three are on the 8-4 bandwagon
