If you were to continue in the process and get the job, I would just do the hotel thing for a week or two while you find a place and move. The company might even pay for that. Still in IB/PE or did you move to Corp Dev or something?

Really a terrible question to ask. Why would you potentially instill doubt in a recruiters mind that may not be there? It can backfire too easily (I've seen and been provided that feedback before)

    What should I do here?

I got an email Wednesday afternoon asking to schedule interviews for Monday afternoon. I said that worked and the recruiter said he'd contact me in a day. I didn't get an email yesterday, and now it's Friday... should I email and ask about Monday or...?

Posted in the Engineers thread but wanted to post here also.

If any of y'all are looking for a change (and aren't super far a long in your career path) or know any fresh engineers, Siemens is hiring for 2 more EIT classes. One starts Jan 206, the other June 2016. Mostly recruiting college campuses but they'll take anyone that wants to start from there.

They are also hiring for EHS (environmental health and safety) specialists (4 spots, starting in June 2016).

if 1) a recruiter calls to congratulate you on an offer...

    2) ask what you were previously making and comment it as on the low end of what they can pay (stupid of me to toss that number out)...

    3) sounded plain giddy to lock you in at that bargain rate and sent a letter over...

    4) you could hold out for another job (in a plentiful job market)...

    5) you've got nothing to lose and refuse to be taken advantage of...

what is the minimum % counter offer you respond with? im thinking 15% more

    straight up

I got an offer from a really cool startup. They offered me $5k more than what I make now, without knowing what I make now. BUT they then told me they had recently had a 40% reduction in workforce (they laid off 15 people or so) and they let it out of the bag that they only have 6 customers. Now I have no idea what the size and terms of those contracts are, but this is bad news, right? They also offered me a lot of equity, like 10 times more than I would have guessed. With all that said, I should stick with my current job so I'm still employed in 6 months, right?

    God damn yes

my brother gets recruited all the time for these type of places that are just hemorrhaging money and throwing out big offers trying to stay afloat as everyone is leaving

you will get a bunch of equity in a company that doesn't exist.

Suspect they may be trying to stay solvent hoping for a miracle/buy-out/etc. (Not sure what field you're in)

How the fuck do you answer these questions?
-What do you expect to be paid?
-What are you making at your current position?

ffs I am awful at those

    - Market value or above (based on whatever skill sets you can toss in)
    - Whatever your base is + any commission/bonus/ad hoc benefit. Don't break down the numbers for them. Just give them one lump sum

About to pull my name out of the hat for a job I interviewed for 3 weeks ago. Hadn't heard anything from them for 3 weeks. Would be about a $30k increase. I'd be working LONG hours and would hate life if I made the jump bc the job sucks. It's basically what I do now, but with more pressure and longer hours. If I stay here, I'll stand to get a $22k raise by next summer doing a more fun job with better hours and more chance to move around in the long run. The recruiter is pretending that I'm a 5 star recruit and she's nick saban. Pressure tactics to get me to continue the interview process. Feels good, but I'm committed, coach.

I got a phone interview tomorrow with a company I interviewed with back in June. With them I got pretty far then didn't get the offer. Since this is a different team entirely, I'm not sure if they know that I interviewed. Do you guys think I should bring that up?

Over the past fiscal year my department will have lost our VP, a manager, and a support specialist. VP is retiring and has been replaced with another internal VP, however the new VP will continue to spend the majority of her time with her prior engagements. Doesn't even have an office in our department. The manager was replaced with another manager we recently hired who has more impressive experience and education background, so I'm sure she is making the same, if not more than the old manager.

The support specialist has not been replaced. Instead, they moved another woman in my department into that position. That resulted in me taking over the now vacant position PLUS the job I already have. I took this in stride, but it's been a boatload of work. I didn't meet all my goals this year, but those were set before I knew I would be given an entirely additional role. I'm expecting a good raise along with a generous bonus. If not, I have one foot out the door. I'm the best option in the department that isn't management level. My three year anniversary is approaching and I'm ready to bounce. Been too lazy to update LinkedIn or my resume though.

    rant over

Every company is different, but I've worked at a small organization (60 total employees/2 locations) and a near Fortune 500 company. Fortune 500 company watches everything. However, with 15,000 employees it's tough and inefficient to keep an eye on everyone IMO. The smaller company didn't seem to watch what you did while on your own device using their network, but emails and Lync conversations were watched. Idk, better to be safe than sorry.

They definitely monitor. I think they have to keep all emails for 3 years for FINRA and they almost certainly have procedures in place to monitor if you are messaging on websites.

Probably depends on your company. How long have you been doing it? If it's been for a while and they havent said anything, it's probably not a big deal.

However, no one here can say they wont/cant fire you for looking at whatever they deem a fireable offense on their network ect. :idk:
