Knowing the company isn't the right fit is a legitimate reason to leave a job for another opportunity. If the new company wants you, they won't care how long you were at your previous job.
Sorry to hear that, Corch. If you can, I'd suggest putting at least one year in before making another move. If you can't stay there any long, realize that the next move you make, you'll need to be there for at least 3-4 years to regain stability in your career. Too many of those short stints on your resume can really hurt your chances for opportunities in the future.
Currently just standing at my desk watching the layoffs take place. No clue if I'm gonna make the cut or not. They've already got like 10 people but we heard it was 50-60% of the company so who knows. Wore a fresh new pair of white Chucks and a cuff in my jeans. If I'm going to the gallows I'm going clean af.
Had my 5th (and supposedly final) interview Monday morning. The recruiter said they 'hopefully [we] will have an offer out in a few days.' The waiting sucks.
I've applied to 21 jobs in the past 4 days 1 callback so far, for a job that the HR drone admitted "pays not that great, market or whatever." and "has no room to climb the ladder," "requires a passion" for their shitty software, and structurally underclassifies the title vs. skillset. and then goes on to tell me how they're having such a hard time filling these roles. Jesus people, get your shit together.
anyway right now im trying to figure out -- do i go unemployed for 1-2+ months, looking for a job with the same salary i'm used to ? or do i take the first thing that comes along so I don't have a gap in the resume?
Probably contract to contract. I've seen that from a couple of HR/talent acquisition people i have been contacted by in the past.
I feel the pain, brother. I was unceremoniously given the axe last wednesday. hired me away from a really good job, then canceled the project i was working on after 1 month i knew not to trust these "VC startup" motherfuckers, but even this was a bit much but hey, now they have a shiny new prototype to show investors.
shitty thing is, someone in HR screening resumes will still give a rat's ass about that, so have to get to the hiring manager(s) over their pissant objections.
Same thing that's happening all over Houston: Oil & gas. It's why I've been just kind of waiting for it because it is so slow with no new jobs starting up. We have nothing on the books for 2016, so I've really just been waiting an knew my time had to be short. I made it through 8 company wide layoffs so far there so I knew my number had to come up eventually.
yup, and despite their new drug test policy it was a really good job -- which i left for what I thought was another 'really good job.' now ive had to quit smoking reefer anyway, since i don't have much choice, so FML i'm not sure what the moral of the story is here.
Yup. Those companies hire contractor generalists...possibly for seasonal ebs/flows in hiring? That part I dont know but its something I noticed. I also dont know if these people actually get paid by temp agencies and put their placements (Coca Cola for example) as their employer on their profile for obvious reasons. Again for me its kinda anecdotal since I noticed it on like 2 people so I cant say how widespread it is. Your guy may very well be free spirit.
I will smoke pot when i am old, too, it's not a matter of age or maturity in my view. But for now I have to give in to the will of "the man" and his need to test my body fluids
I just recently started smoking on the reg to get off the booze. Figure it'll take at least a month before I hear anything back from other companies once I start shooting out the resume. I could get on in the field, but I'm gonna wait at least 30 days till I hit any of them up just to be sure. I'm only upset at the thought of having to cut off my hair and and losing my beard out of all of this to interview.
i mean everyone has different priorities but it's a Schedule 1 substance. Ridiculousness of drug laws aside, in my eyes it seems dumb to give up on a good job because of a desire for recreational use of a controlled substance -- which has now landed you in the unemployment line.
The proximate cause of me "being in the unemployment line" was not leaving my old job, it was making a bad choice in terms of a new employer. The new gig was a total bait-and-switch, and it would've been that regardless of my reasons for leaving the old job. They offered me $20k in equity, higher base salary, structured bonuses, remote working, and a lot of freedom to build and design the things I'm good at with some bad ass technology. It could've been a huge boost to my career. It would've been a great offer had they lived up to their word. That's got nothing to do with pot. yeah i can feel the sincerity
I've never been drug tested for a job in my career. And lol at anyone that thinks you should "grow up" and stop smoking weed. I don't smoke every day, hell it has probably been a month since I last smoked but fuck a employer that thinks it has an impact on my job.
Fuck. Just had to tell my brother I cancelled our flights and hotel reservations for his wedding next month. He's pissed but fuck him for having me be out thousands of dollars for his destination wedding.
not all companies drug test bc of this, some have to do it bc they are affiliated in some way with certain gov't agencies but agrd with your premise, and i don't even smoke bc i'm not 12
I don't have her number or anything. I'll deal with him and he can tell her. Nobody can go anyways cause of the zika shit. 3 of her maids of honor and her maid of honor are pregnant right now so they can't go either.
Just got an offer to be a project engineer for the same company I just got laid off from for a job that starts in 2 weeks. It's a field job so once it's over I'm back in the same spot but I'd get to keep the beard and my hair. Sucks cause I still couldn't get off for the wedding except for maybe to fly down there and back and not stay the whole week but whatever.
Why'd you have to shave your beard? Unless it's something really crazy I really don't think it's going to impact your interview success, is it?
When I worked for the state in college, it was against the law for them to drug test me for my position. I'd be willing to quit smoking for an initial drug test, but I don't think I would ever quit for good just for a job.
